my roguish elf with 30 cunning and 4 levels of trap making can detect trap in Origin like piece of cake, but he can't detect any damn trap in Awakening!

especially in the dwarf main hall. I tried only the Nath-something human rogue can detect them.

I always thought trap detection was based on Cunning & Device Mastery [or whatever the name of the lock pick/trap disable skill is].

That said I have no rogue of my own in Awakening, but trap detection in general seems to be kind of... off. Like there is a die roll going on in the background that keeps failing. Even in Vanilla DA:O I find that often rogues won't see the trap until they walk through it, where at other times they will see it 10-15+ steps away (when it just comes into Line of Sight I guess).

I believe there are some traps that just can't be detected/disarmed too - I remember at least one in Hal'Kirol that Nathaniel didn't detect nor have the option to disarm (a tripwire that I only noticed because of how I was zoomed in at the time).

I basically have given up on worrying about traps though - most of the ones in Awakening are Fire based and all of my characters fire resist levels are high enough to shrug them off.

Just wanted to comment. I have it for the PS3 and twice now in Awakening (two different rogues both with high cunning and device mastery) neither one could detect traps. Could in Origins.

Nathaniel spots them no problem, and I can still disable them. Definitely a bug.

It seems like sometimes there are traps the player just can't detect... or at least require a ludicrously high detection score.

I have seen this problem on a rogue with Master trap making (4 levels), Device mastery (4 levels), and 45 cunning. I know that Nathaniel can see those same traps with lower specs.

I can attest to this bug as well. Played through two separate rogues in Awakenings, both being able to detect traps in Origins rather aptly, but they don't seem to be as proficient in the expansion. Strangely enough Nathaniel, who has lesser stats than my PC, can detect most any trap I encounter just fine.

I hope they address this issue in the next patch, if they plan on releasing one. It's getting rather annoying. :/

Oghren has a tendency to run into traps. Just bring him along.

Hahahaha...

Good luck.  They don't care and they never will.  I suggest not giving your cash to developers who don't support their products.

not for nothing, just confirming that main player rogue cannot detect traps in many areas, where nathaniel can just fine. I'm guessing they set up some script to check against specific npcs, and simply forgot entirely to check against the main player! sad.

I had the same problem with my rogue. I had Sigrun, Anders, and Ogrhen in my party. However, when I ran the same group with my DN Warrior, Sigrun was able to detect the traps.I think it might get confused with two rogues in the party. I'll have to try this with both Nathaniel and Sigrun in the party to confirm.
