I had very loud combat music even before the patch.

I also have this problem and posted about it on daforums and here. So far it seems that we just need to deal with it, which sucks.

Bump.
Does anybody know of any mods/fixes for this? I'm constantly turning the volume down during battles, then up again afterward.
I just posted a mod-request on Dragon Age Nexus. But so far I'm not aware of any such mod.

It's been this way from the get-go. I think they just decided to give a +6db boost to ALL combat tracks, and that's why it suddenly gets real loud. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 also seemed to suffer from this, though the volume boost was far more minimal.
When I played "Leliana's Song", the music volume from exploration to combat seemed to flow naturally, so it seems they've finally learned.

It's most annoying because I'm often playing when other people are in the same room (home office has two computers), and the loud battles are distracting for the others.
I played Leliana's Song, and noticed the improvement there too. I guess that's yet one more way that Leli's Song DLC represents a positive direction for the Dragon Age series.

The only way I managed to solve this issue is too either use kublikhan's Quiet Battle Music mod, or, since I'm using custom music, use his/her Dragon Age Music Editor and create a new custom ingame music set with quieter battle and/or some cutscene/stinger music.
EDIT:
Another way to fix this issue, if you're not using a custom ingame music set, is to enable, in Control Panel, your Loudness Equalization, or Voulme Normalizer, or whatever the effect is called on your OS. The name of that effect, and if it even exists on your OS, depends on your soundcard driver.
