I haven't played NWN 2 yet but I have it. I pretty much agree with your statement. In the end I liked KOTOR 2 more that the first KOTOR because of the interaction, gameplay enhancements and the story, but because the game falls apart at the end it kept me from loving it.

I'd rather have Neverwinter Nights 2 than Neverwinter Nights.

I'm not sure why, I just prefer it to the first.

I wouldn't know what their relationship is but I couldn't help but noticing how a lot of people here consider both sequels that Obsidian made inferior to the originals (KotoR and NWN). Is this really a popular opinion? Didn't anyone really like either of the games?

I prefer both sequels to the Bioware originals. Not saying there isn't a lot that Bioware does better, however, I find that I like the writing and atmosphere more in the Obsidian games, and that's what matters most to me.

I definitely prefer NWN2 to NWN1. Of course, I didn't play the latter when it initially came out but years later. But NWN1 thoroughly underwhelmed me insofar as it's narrative and characters; it was the first boring BioWare story I've ever played. NWN2, on the other hand, in spite of its cliches, was fun and entertaining.

TSL vs. KotOR is harder for me. I really like certain things about TSL, but I agree that KotOR is overall more rounded. But if I had to say which story I considered better, I'd probably say that TSL's story is better in the beginning and middle, with an unsatisfying conclusion.

I feel the same way. The Sith Lords was better in the beginning and middle, imo, but then it really started to slip and just had a quickly wrapped up ending that was meh. Forced deadlines are lame, which is why I tend to not have a problem when BioWare announces delays.
I hope Obisidian does better, but I'm on the fence with Alpha Protocol. From what they said about gameplay and skills and choices, it all seems really fun. However, it is a spy game. I really like James Bond, especially the two recent ones, but I've never really gotten into the modern spy game theme. Leaning towards getting it though.

I can officially put Alpha Protocol back on my list of games I'll eventually buy: DRM Update

It's possible to deactivate the game's limited installs, making them not so limited. Yay! Is it still saturated with DRM-ness? Well, yeah, but I don't care as long as there isn't a cap on how many times I can reinstall.

Still on the fence so to speak about Alpha Protocol, tho minor, you're forced to play a set char, and male, what have you seen that you think it's worth buying Seagloom?

I probably won't pick it up right away. I'm not thrilled about being locked into a character without even a gender choice but I can live with it if the game is good. What intrigues me comes down to three things:

- Obsidian: I prefer Obsidian's approach to storytelling over BioWare. Enough so that I've been able to overlook a few very ugly flaws in their past games. Their dialogue and main plots tend to appeal to me more.

- Gameplay: I like the idea of going through missions by gunning everyone down or relying completely on stealth. Supposedly it's possible to clear the entire game without a single casualty as well. That's a minor thing for most people but it's *very* appealing to me since I tend to enjoy that path in games that offer it. But mostly, I like that there isn't a straight line to solving objectives. Very few story driven games offer alternate solutions. It's this aspect that made games such as VtM: Bloodlines and Deus Ex 2 fun for me.

- Modern setting: I'm not too crazy about the whole Jack Bauer/Jason Bourne slant, but I still find the overall concept of a story heavy game taking place in modern times. It isn't done very often outside of full-on action games.

Cash is tight for me right now however, so I'm not making a blind purchase. I intend to wait and watch what others say of it. I would like to support Obsidian but their track record has made me leery of taking chances right now.
