Forgive me, but I'm needing to vent a bit.
Did anyone else find this battle to sort of unfair? It's the only battle so far that I feel that, when I FINALLY won (and believe me it took SEVERAL reloads), it wasn't due to any optimal strategy, but sheer luck.
Only battle thus far in the game (23ish hours on Hard) that has had me cursing because it felt really unfair. If you charge headon, the two side rooms just unload with skellies, and then the Horror summons more from the ground around him, and you end up facing 14ish regular enemies IN ADDITION to the Red Arcane Horror, who can stun and cast all manners of spells.
Eventually what I ended up doing was holding my party at the top of the stairs, then I'd send my tank in to one of the side rooms to draw all the skellies, then lead them to the top of the stairs. If my tank got stunned (through whatever means), I was ****ed, and had to reload.
It was a serious, serious pain in the ass, and I am so glad it's over.

A bit, after trying a couple of times with no success I just kept my party at the top of the stairs and nailed him with ranged attacks and it ended up really easy.

well, the game may need some balancing, but there are a few big bosses, most of them are voluntarily fought, though i do not remember if this encounter was not.
it is all in the spirit of Baldur's Gate late game bosses which were mages throwing stuff at eachother, and what a homage, arcanewarrior and wynne saved my ass.

I used a range weapon and mage but you probably didn't have those luxuries. My two tanks defended me and Morrigan as we ranged it.

I had my main tank gather all the skellies and the mage, then stand in the middle of the room, then I had my melee and range dps take on the mage, while my warrior took down the skellies, and I switched my two dps over to the skellies when they were almost dead. Wynne healed the tank and put the invincible bubble around him when he got stunned, and the fight was pretty easy (this is on normal difficulty, so maybe it's just easy mode compared to hard)

Yeah, once I took down the skellies from each side of the room, I had Zevran shoot the Horror with ranged, had my main (tank) pull out his bow and do ranged, Wynne was doing ranged and healing, and Sten I hid around a corner.
In hindsight (and now that the rage has passed, lol), it probably would have been a lot easier to just have Zevran Wynne and my main attack with ranged, and then have Sten and my main do melee if any skellies made it up the stairs. I found that as long as I didn't rush the Horror directly, the side room skellies didn't trigger, but he would still summon four or so from the ground.
What really made it frustrating the first five or six times was I kept trying different melee strategies, so I'd get the side rooms pulled as well as his summoned skellies, and then the joy of Winter's Grasp and Paralyze on my tank or Wynne, which would just plain **** me over.
