Karen Traviss is the lead writer for Gears 3, so the story should be better than the first installments.

As someone who has not played any of the GOW games, the trailer failed to spark my interest. After watching it, I still have no interest in playing the games. If the aim of the trailer was to garner interest in new players, it failed in my case. It was generic, boring and told me nothing about the games. Maybe it was aimed at existing players?

Trailer was awesome. Better fix the multiplayer though, or it may only be a rent for me. For the story.

Yes. It was definitely marketed towards previous players. Appealing to new audiences is something the first half of Mass Effect 2's cinematic trailer did much better.

Gears of War is what Michael Bay would make if he was a game designer. If big 'sploshunz and a throwaway story aren't your thing, stay clear.
I was kind of expecting a female Gear sooner or later but Anya was a surprise. I'm guessing her and Carmine III will be the two offsiders that are temporary squad members for this one (Kim and Carmine I in Gears 1, Tai and Carmine II in Gears 2).
