You can already punch her out, right?

Not enough! Must slap her a few times too.

Oh I understand that she is a mother and wants to help her son, I'm not faulting her for that, but that doesn't excuse her for her actions. While trying to help her son, she almost doomed her village and villagers, and yet the entire time continues to act as if she did nothing wrong. She doesn't seem to care what happens to her people, she is tunnel visioned on only Connor which has blinded her to a point. That's what infuriates me.

Furthermore, after you kill the demon the only thing she can say to you is: "You have my deepest thanks" in such a non-sincere way. She should really be kissing the PC's feet at this point for bailing her out of her own stupidity.

She only had to do one thing to redeem herself in the eyes of most of my PCs:  apologize.  If she had just said that she really regretted that her attempt to protect her son had given Loghain his opening and led to so much death and destruction, they would have been a lot more sympathetic to her.

My mage PCs thus far have always resented her, though, because she felt herself above having to lose her son as their own parents lost them.  They didn't hate her so much for trying, it's the attitude that rankled.  Remember, Jowan says that she knew Arl Eamon would do the right thing and send Connor away and that "infuriated" her.

Oh, OK, two things: apologize and lose the damn screechy voice!

I actually think that's perfectly understandable. Her kid is, what, ten? She obviously doesn't think of him as dangerous until he gets possessed and she knows she will probably never see him again (at least not until he completes his Harrowing) and since she loves him, she doesn't want that. Since a lot of parents of mages hate them for being evil and unnatural, Isolde's refusal to think like that and persitant love for her son is admirable and envious. Her way of dealing with the prospect of losing him, however...not so much.

Certainly, but she never does.

Teagan: "Connor is back to his old self, I can scarely believe it"

Isolde: "Yes it seems that way"

PC: *whistles*

Teagan: "Isolde, don't you have something to say?"

Isolde: "What? Oh! I um.... thank you warden"

PC: *facepalm*

Jowan does say in the dialogue that she is s pious woman... and you know how the Chantry feels about mages.

Isolde should have been executed for what she did. As mentioned already, she is a pious woman; so, she believes that mages are dangerous and should be kept in the circle not only for their safety, but for the safety of others.

What she did was selfish - she couldn't bear to lose her son and was embarrassed that she gave birth to a mage. She selfishly tried to circumvent even her own believes and knowingly put the lives of others at risk. It is an unforgiveable act for a person especially one who is a position of power such as hers and could rouse the Arl's subjects to a revolt if discovered by the commoners.

I don't necessarily think that my PC should be the one to place judgement upon her, but I believe Arl Eamon should have immediately called for her head. The Arl shows his own selfishness by not acting.

On the other hand, when my PC kills her, it is easily justified. I kill her now. Initially, I saved both, but since there are no consequences for her if she lives, I now have my PC hand out justice even though I really don't think that my PC should be the one to do so.

She's my least liked character in the game. The way she talks, the ****ing, the pretending it isn't her fault. She loves her only child, I can respect that but seeing as the fact that it's a video game I killed her everytime and only in my most recent playthrough slapped her sorry ass......face

and was embarrassed that she gave birth to a mage.

Where did she get that she was embarrassed? Desperate not to lose Connor forever, yes, but embarrassed? You think she did all of that to not look silly?

I believe she says it when you talk to her about why she hired Jowan, but I'd have to go back and double-check - I'm using my memory on that and I could be mistaken.  Or maybe it was Jowan?  I'll have to fire up the game tonight and double-check.

I dislike her not only for many reasons stated here (annoying voice, mean to Alistair, selfishness regarding Connor, hints of relationship with Teagan) but also because she has my mother in law's name, yet pronounces it differently (and I think incorrectly). >.> Maybe it's the French/Orlesian pronunciation but it still sounds so odd to me.

Hmm, so some people think she was having an affair with Teagan? I never got that impression.

Danal tells you so! The mustache never lies.

It was one of the first rumors I heard and I've disliked Teagan ever since.

I believe there was a Thread much like this one a while back, and I'll just kind of repeat myself here to the best of my ability. Truth be told, I feel like one of the few people who acutally *Likes* Isolde; both the Character, and the Skill of the Voice Actress behind her. When I first played the game, I was starting to think that almost every character you would run into would give just a 'Meh' acting performance (there are some exceptions, most notably in your own Party) with no one really standing out. Than I get to Redcliff after the Circle Tower and after doing the whole 'Battle at Helm's Deep' thing, meet Isolde.

I'd assumed that she would be a pure 100% **** based on what she did to Alistair, but than I acutally *Listened* to all her dialogue over the Course of the Redcliff Arc and I found myself understanding and sympathizing with her Messed reasoning. Yes, she caused as much damage as Jowan, and as Teagan points out it's her secret actions that made Jowan's deeds possible. None the less, I understood her desperation, and I'm not even a Parent.

Really, the only aspect of her Character/Story that I found dissapointing was the fact that, when I first played DA:O, I was certain, almost 100%, that she and Teagan had...something....between them. I even concluded that that the reason she was so adamant about Teagan saving Connor was that the boy was *Teagan's* son, and not Eamons. Yeah, Jowan says she's Pious, but...come on. Nine times out of ten it's the 'Holyer than thou' people that either do or are into the most Sin-full stuff, no?

In anycase, when it turned out Connor *was* Eamons and Isolde wasn't commiting adultery I was a tad let down. As to her Voice? Like I said, to me it's one of the most emotionaly Strong works in the game. When Jowan shows up and she screams, "You! You did this to Connor!" I thought she was going to go for a Blade. Not too many moments like that in the game, IMO. Regardless, I get why some people don't like her, I just don't share said dislike. Frankly, I hope she shows up again in another Expansion or DA2.

The fact that she doesn't attempt to slay Jowan right there, speaks volumes to me.

As I said, they don't necessarily fault her for trying to keep the boy away from the circle, just for the attitude with which she attempts it.  At one point, she starts talking about how mages run in her family, and how evil they are, etc., etc., and my mage PCs are thinking "***ch, you're asking me for help with that kind of attitude?!"

Teagan and Isolde? A ruler, his foreign wife and a relative... doesn't that ring a bell on top of those rumours?

Rumor is rumor. It's pretty clear to me that from their interaction, Teagan has a deep distaste for Isolde, along with most of the rest of us.

I have to agree with you tell me who wouldn't be POed when you generously try to help your sister in law and nephew and then end up being a fricken jester for the nephew who turned out to be a possed by a demon I'd figured he would've said "well YOU COULD"VE F****** TOLD ME CONNOR WAS F******* POSSED BY A DEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when he was freed from the demon's control

He does sound really glad to see her when she first appears, which I think helps fuel the rumors. To me, that moment was more 'walking dead are coming from the castle but there are survivors? That's great news!' than 'My secret love is alive!'

That was my thinking too.  The rumor could be wrong!  I mean a few of them already are, right?

A man with a mustache that big is obviously up to something nefarious.
