I used to save both her and Connor, but ever since I discovered there is no disapproval from Alistair for letting her sacrifice herself, she ALWAYS dies.

This is probably covered already, but, 'no disapproval'? There might be various ways in which she can die, but the one time i let her die (Blood Magic), Alistair got quite angry about it at camp and i got -24.

As far as Arlessa Isolde love/hate goes, she's a desperate woman in a desperate situation who's made a stupid decision. She's a noble who, even though has the law to thank for her position in society, thinks she's above it somehow. Should she die as a result? Maybe.

I'm not overly fond of the woman. But i think she's been 'made' well. story-wise, voice-wise, etc. It's unrealistic to think we'd adventure all across the land and everyone we'd meet - on the 'good' side - we'd like.

Just my two coppers, take it for what it is ;)

Definately, otherwise nobody would talk about her and make a thread about it right? Posted Image

voice-wise

This is all personal opinion though, some people love it and some people hate it.

ellysa - there's one conversation option which negates all Alistair disapproval. It's hard to say whether it's intended or (more likely) an oversight on the part of Bioware, but if you selection the option "I thought it turned out quite well, didn't you?" then Alistair will agree, give you +6 (or +7, can't remember) approval and thank you for saving the Arl's family.

I tend to think this is a bug but it's useful to know if you intend to sacrifice Isolde but don't want to lose approval with Al.

That sounds like a bug. If anything, you being so cheerful that you just used blood magic to kill the desperate mother of an abomination and no doubt leaving Connor guilt-ridden and the Arl devastated should lose you even more approval.

Ooo is dis man, Tee-gaan? Ugh. *frown*
She loves her son, yes, and the cutscene where she is begging for his life (if you opt to kill him) is pretty heart-rending. I almost feel sorry for her there. But the whole thing is her fault. Had she not tried to hide Connor's magic from everyone, Jowan would not have been able to insinuate himself there, poison Eamon and then teach Connor enough magic that he was able to make a deal with a daemon and become and abomination.
I've gone for the sunshine and rainbows ending a few times but usually I let Jowan sacrifice her. That way she can redeem herself for her stupidity.

Well it was at least as much if not more of Loghain's fault, hiring Jowan because he knew that Isolde needed apostates services and that was his cover to get in, probably even knew why, and knew specifically that he was just not apostate but a blood mage, and also knew that he was just apprentice, not really competent teacher. So Loghain knew his background, from templar and Jowan had less reason lie to him than to Isolde. At best he didn't know why Isolde needed non-circle mage services, and thus his plan to poison and knowledge of Jowan's background made him about as guilty as Isolde, probably slighlty more, but if he knew why Isolde needed Jowan, then he was definately more guilty than Isolde, because then he knew everything that Isolde knew and more.

Loghain has to take the blame for the poisoning, but Isolde made it possible for him to insinuate Jowan into her household by keeping Connor's magic a secret. Had she let him go to the Circle, then Loghain would have had to find another way of putting Eamon out of action...or not put him out of action at all.

Isolde needed a competant mage and Loghain could have got one via the Mage's Collective.  Her need was just a convienient door opener for Loghain who's sole motivation was to compromise Eamon.  As such, Loghain needed someone who was completely under his direction so he chose to intercept the templers and use a captured but unproven, young maleficar.  Loghain didn't think this through (seems to be a theme of his).

Both Isolde and Loghain are to blame.  She provided the opportunity, he provided the loose cannon.

percentage of blame/stupidity in the redcliffe quest

Loghain:1%

Isolde:99.999999999999999999999%

stupid woman shouldn't have kept connors magic a secret!!!! either way demons are naturally attracted to mages what did she honestly think would happen? Loghain of course played a part but he just played on isolde constant and growing stupidity.

I don't know. Had she managed to find a competent instructor and Eamon hadn't been poisoned before Connor knew enough not to make a deal with a demon it might have turned out okay. Surely one mage whose sole focus is on Connor wouldn't fare any worse than the handful of mages who look in on the apprentices occassionally at the Circle Tower.

It was disappointing how the Warden knocked her out before gutting her demon spawn. I wanted to force her, who was responsible for the entire ****storm, to watch.

You only knock her out if you don't let her kill him herself. If you're trying to increase her pain, just go that route.
