Halo: Reach, even if you aren't a fanboy, will definitely be a contender for GOTY, for Xbox 360 at least. That said, I'm excited for the beta

I think Halo Reach will be great but I don't think it will distinguish itself enough from it's predecessor to truly stand out as anything revolutionary.

Mass Effect 2 is a game that seamlessly integrates a great action game with just enough RPG elements to be deep but not so many that you have spend a large portion of the game micro-managing things in menus.

I think that this may have let down some hard core RPGers but for gamers who love both RPGs and shooters such as myself I think Mass Effect 2's execution was nearly flawless.

Halo Reach looks great, I intend to buy it and I will no doubt love but it I don't think it's going to feel particularly fresh.

ME2 is definitely my GoTY.

No other game has moved me in such a way that ME2 has. Not at one specific moment. But for the entire game!

I hope there will better games released this year. I would be disappointed if this is the goty. I'm hoping for a DX3 shock & awe revival. But my hoping hand has not been filled as of late.

I wouldn't be so skeptical about Deus Ex 3. Yes, Deus Ex 2 was a letdown but judging from interviews I have read with the leader developers of Deus Ex 3, they are well aware of what Deus Ex 2's problems were.
The lead developer of Deus Ex 3 said that the skill system is back, the environments will be larger than Deus Ex's, and that the game will offer many multiple paths towards completing an objective whether it be through stealth or superior firepower.
That sounds like what a proper Deus Ex sequel should be. The only real significant changes are recovering health and a cover system.
I think a recovering health system is really for the best. Being stuck in a situation where you only have 1 hitpoint and no medkits is never fun. Also, the cover system is great for someone who wants to take an action oriented approach. I'm fine with it because the developers said it's possible to beat the entire game without killing a single enemy save for a few key encounters.

I really think Deus Ex 3 will be an exceptional game.

Also, forget about Bioshock 2.  It felt like they dumbed down the single player aspect of the game to focus on the multi-player.  Since Bioshock 1 was mostly remembered as a great single player experience, I imagine not everyone was happy with the suddent change in direction.

Good idea.  Deus Ex has such an incredible level of interactivity and immersion that I find something new in the game almost every time I play it and I first played the game when it came out on the PC in June 2000.  I would say Deus Ex is the most immersive game ever made.

Why do people say Gears Of War III? That game isn't coming out until 2011.

edit:lol, I guess you meant God Of War III.

As for Yakuza 3, I think Sega blew it by censoring the US version.

I didn't say Yakuza 3 is that good ... I said Yakuza 3 > FF XIII.
Entertaining game it is .. and with so much content it's certainly worth the money.
Wouldn't say it's GOTY material.

Yup, here is my list of 2010 GOTY candidates, obviously all of them are predictions except for ME2, which as of right now is my number 1 choice for GOTY.

Mass Effect 2
RAGE
Fallout Vegas
Halo Reach
Red Dead Redemption
LA Noire

This. Sadly RPGs aren't as popular as FPS games to the braindead masses so I don't think it will win game of the year but I want it to and will be rooting for it all the way!

Too early to tell. It also came out at the very start of the year, and the awards tend to be bias towards the newer games that come out in the last few months of the year because they still look at them with rose-tinted classes and they're still shiny and new. I'm also not entirely sure I think it deserves it personally, but hey... the critics seemed to love it. So far it is also admittedly the best game of 2010 thus far, IMO, despite its shortcomings. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a contender at the least, but then lost to something out in October/November/December.

What other possibly candidates do we have known to us thus far? God of War III, I doubt it. Final Fantasy XIII... to many disgruntled fans and people who found it boring. BioShock II I'd also doubt. Alpha Protocol isn't getting a lot of hype or attention, but I could see it as a contender for beating ME2 personally, if it's done right (Obsidian unfortunately have a habit of almost getting there to greatness, but not quite making it and just falling short though). Gran Turismo 5 if if comes may have a shot, but racing games rarely win. Alan Wake... perhaps. Just Cause 2... hmmm, I doubt it. Same with Splinter Cell. Starcraft 2 is PC only, and it's pretty damn rare for something like that to win. Portal 2 might have a decent shot, if it's out in time. Halo Reach will be a nominee simply because it has the 'Halo' name on it, and even a dried out dog turd with 'Halo' on it makes fanboys cream their pants. Hopefully there's not another overhyped Call of Duty this year. Mario Galaxy 2 is another contender. L.A. Noir if it comes this year could be amazing.

I think IGN has the best chance of giving Mass Effect 2 the Game Of The Year award. They gave it a 9.6, a very rare score by their standards, and they have already called it an early candidate for game of the year.

Gamespot picked a real dark horse candidate last year with Demon's Souls. That took a lot of balls. Hell, they didn't even nominate Modern Warfare 2. It's hard to say what they'll choose but Gamespot is developing a reputation of not following the pack.

No. There's still plenty of games to come out. I don't doubt that someone will give it GOTY. But will they get it at D.I.C.E or GDC? I don't think so.

Gamespot has gone insane. Their latest reviews are garbage.

Alan Wake might be some competition, too. It was awaited for 6 years, and now it's coming out. Might be a little bit unhelpful that it's a XBox Exclusive, though.

Modern Warfare 2 didn't even deserve the nomination. Definitely the most overrated game of last year.

Warning: Opinion Alert!

BFBC2 will likely be written off as a CoD knockoff with tanks and dust.

Reach is just going to be Bungie milking *cuts rant about storyline off there*

Bioshock 2 didn't really contribute to the story and had Multiplayer on the disk but you still had to buy the DLC.

C&C4 is largely considered a joke.

Portal 2 may or may not be different enough from the original.

Civilization 5 has the potential to suck, but it also has the potential to be awesome.

Starcraft 2 will have to stop being a rush or die game to have a chance.

FEAR 3 will have to be scarier than any thus far, not ruin SP with Coop and still not have lousy coop.

Alan Wake sounds like a Silent Hill knockoff.

ME2 has a very good chance. I'd love for it to have more competition, or more to the point; I'd love to be able to have more faith in the competition.

GOTY isn't some unified thing. Almost all major publications and sites have their own, and I'm sure ME2 will win some of them.
