Only hyped games get notifications...quiet contenders like Red Dead Redemption will simply never get enough votes...So thats why im not sure if the pc community alone is able to pull enough votes for starcraft 2. I wouldnt forget Mafia 2...if it can live up to its predecessor then it is a contender for sure...GoW3 will obviously be best ps3 game of the year...just because its God of war...all other games are not able to beat the hype...and the reviws are quiet strong too.
So I say its Me2 vs. SC2 vs. GOW3 vs. Mafia 2

I'd almost have to say that God of War III will beat ME2. There was only one thing I had to complain about in regards to GoWIII, and that was the jumping physics. Otherwise, everything was perfect...
ME2, while one of the best games I've ever played, definitely had some nicks in the chrome... especially regarding the main story, which I've come to believe was weaker than the one in ME1.

If GOTY went to the game that reinvented itself the best, then ME2 would most certainly win.
The devs sorta threw the baby out with the bathwater with their "if it was complained about, get rid of it" approach, but everything in ME2 that the set out to improve got improved tenfold.
Even so, the year isn't even half over and there are some pretty heavy hitters yet to be released as everyone else mentioned.

I was excited about Alpha Protocol until the multiple delays. I have a bad feeling that the combat engine will be obsolete coming out of the box now that ME2 is out.
I am prayerful that the True Crime HK game and Max Payne 2 will not disappoint me. I'd like to see both of those games pushed back later in to 1Q of 2010.

Every single game with a multi-million dollar budget gets to be game of the year somewhere. Winning a "Game of the Year" award and advertising it is about the same as rising triumphantly from your chair and yelling out "I HAVE FEET" at the top of your lungs.

no, i do not think it will be game of the year. an excellent game, yes. maybe it will win a few awards, but probably not game of the year.

I think, and hope, that you're wrong - the delay seems like a sign that Obsidian and the publisher (SEGA?) are actually committed to polish the game and make it work right - unlike the rushed KotOR II. Graphics aren't everything, besides, can a six months delay really result in bad graphics?

For my money it's a tossup between Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption.
ME2 came out early in the year, so that'll work against it because people will have forgotten a little by the end of the year. Red Dead Redemption looks to be mind-blowing, and provided it delivers, word-of-mouth and high review scores should make the fact that it's not too hyped at the moment work in its favour. It'll appear to come out of nowhere, and it'll probably blow Alan Wake, a massively overhyped game that looks to be somewhat mediocre, out of the water.

Sadly no... It will probably be camp of duty modern warfare 2, the game which was banned in Russia because in level 4 you moved too slow and some innocent people managed to escape. Gd I hate that game.

I was never really bothered by whether or not a game I like is named GOTY. I like the game, I think that's what matters, not what some critics think. You don't need a title like that to know the game is good.
