I have it equipped, and I know it gives 10% more ammo.  By that logic, I should be able to carry a total of 11 rounds in the Mantis.  Base 10, +10%=11 shots.  But, its still 10 total.

plus the round that is in your barrel..

10 in clip 1 in barrel = 11

Ah. Oh boy, its late and I'm brain fried. I guess I just wish my poor Mantis had more like Widow numbers, like 14-15 shots.

Hmm...still looks like its not working in that regard. Mantis is still at 10 shots total, counting the round in the barrel. Carnifex gained only 1 extra shot, realistically it should be 2. 10% of 24 is 2.4, so....what gives?

whats the barrel showing? 1? and 9 in reserve clip?

or is it showing 10 in reserve clip and 0 in barrel? if thats the case, then load the barrel with the reload shortcut. then grab an ammo somewhere.

If none of those works.. You sure you got the spare ammo pack? could it be the heavy ammo pack? :D

Eh, it's buggy ... I find that sometimes at the start of missions you seem to be short of max, but after awhile the max ammo increases.

I never use it anymore. Just stick with N7 shoulders until after Horizon.

It's buggy on occasions. The quick way to fix is to QuickSave and QuickLoad at the start of a mission, and then you'll have the +10% ammo that you should.

Pro tip, everyone

Ammo pack does not include the rounds already in the gun.

Mantis = 9 rounds x10% = .9
Thats why the ammo pack doesnt work for Mantis.

Carnifex gained only 1 extra shot, realistically it should be 2. 10% of 24 is 2.4, so....what gives

Do the Carniflex math again but take out the 6 rounds already in the gun. ;D

The Off-Hand Ammo Pack is buggy. Sometimes it will give you the extra ammo it's supposed to, and sometimes it won't. I don't even bother with the thing anymore.

It's an increase to the offhand ammo, not total ammo. Rounded down.

For example, the Viper has 60 total ammo, 12 in clip and 48 offhand.
0.1 x 48 = 4.8
Ammo pack gives 4 Viper bullets, for a total of 64.

IMO it's not really worth it, since the guns that actually need more ammo will get very little from the ammo pack.

Then again, 1 more Widow bullet is probably more valuable than any of the other options. Hmm...

There is no mathematical problem here. It has nothing to do with off-hand ammo or any of the other nonsense I kept reading when searching for an answer to this issue. The problem is that it's buggy and inconsistent. It was programmed poorly. Sometimes you'll start a mission with the increased amount, then realise your maximum is at its original amount again. It's annoying.

Either quick save and quick load - hoping it corrects itself - or just don't bother with it anymore :)

Actually, the math thing is contributing to the problem. It's not the problem itself, but it's why we keep getting questions about this. Take the Viper from OniGanon's example. If you assumed that the number included the rounds in the barrel, then you'd expect 60 rounds multiplied by 1.1, which would give you 66 rounds total. Instead you get 64, and you think the thing is bugged because it's not giving you the 2 extra rounds you're expecting. However, since the number only applies to the Reserve Ammo, you're actually getting exactly the number you're supposed to.

Well you are both right. Some people are confused by the math, others are frustrated by a bug that can cause the ammo bonus to temporarily disappear. They are separate issues.

Btw, the bug occurs when changing weapon loadouts. You can workaround this by changing weapon loadouts, saving, loading, accessing a weapons locker (but not changing or looking at anything).

If the Off-Hand Ammo Pack gives the Widow one more shot, then I need to change my Infiltrator armor...

There is definitely some bug involved, not because the math is wrong. It's actually correct if you count in only the reserve ammo.

However, I'm 100% sure that my SMG had 825 rounds on previous playthroughs, and not 769 as it's now (though 769 indicates some lazy floating point implementation, it should be 770). I'm also sure that the Mantis had 11 instead of 10. Saving/Reloading didn't help bring it back to 825 or respectively to 11.
