Now, Liara and Virmire Survivor are the only two former squadmates, that are alive in all saves. Others are expendable => waste of ME3 resources.

=> ME2 squadmates = cameos, DLCs.
__________________________________________________________________________
On another note, make up a list of up to 5 new squadmates you wish to be in ME3. Be serious!

Mine:

Feron
Batarian escaped slave / former Special Intervention Unit member Mad Prophet
Mordin's nephew
Turian female spectre (flexibility!)
Joker Father Grigory Kahoku's son Kai Leng

EDIT:

This is actually extras because as I said, the poll results are enough, but still

Data to mull over from the SURVIVOR show:
All ME2 LIs got voted out ahead any of ME1 LI. Also, some of the fan favorites have proven to pack up as much hate as love, which doesn't add up to their chances of much screen time in ME3.

BioWare will want to reward importing ME2 characters in ME3. How? More camoes. Who's cameos? The former squadmates' cameos who will all be dead by default (except two, probably Miranda & Jacob, still cameo-ed, though). Bioware can't penalize newbies, let alone casual ME2 players (who may not have an all-in save) by withdrawing available recruitables from ME3.

Reasons for ME2 squadmates to be absent (dead) from ME3, aside from death on the suicide mission:
Thane - terminally ill
Mordin - old age
Legion - sent to Cerberus
Grunt - dies in the tank
Samara - killed for Morinth
Zaeed - abandoned to burn on Zorya
Kasumi - hunted for her graybox
Tali - suicidal over dad's honor (unloyalty)
Jack - mental disorder (?) or detained by Cerberus for study
Garrus - none, but simple unloyalty (Sidonis at large)

AND, since everybody loves to say that ME2 is so great because the professional reviewers say so, might as well link a review relevant to the topic:

http://www.gamecriti...effect-2-review

AND if you still feel like posting something along the lines "No, I think all ME2 squadmates will return [as squadmates]" or "I think these will stay and these will leave", do it in the appropriate thread:

Not to derail this thread, but I disagree with the fundamental argument of this post that ME2 squadmates being carried into ME3 is a waste of resources. ME2 sold 3 million+ copies and it probably cost Bioware a lot of resources to create those characters. Furthermore, there is now the argument of brand recognition, now more than ever people know and care about the ME2 cast.

I'm not saying they are all coming back, but I am saying that dismissing them as a waste of resources is unlikely. That rule applied for characters from ME1 into ME2, but I do not think the same rules that apply for the 2nd chapter of a trilogy apply to the 3rd chapter of a trilogy. As the final chapter, there is no alternative opportunity to reintroduce the cast of ME2. I personally believe it would be a much bigger waste of resources not to carry the ME2 squad into ME3.

but to answer your question;

The Illusive Man
Kal Reegar
Aria
Batarian
Admiral Hackett

Onyx, you just shattered to1'809'565 pieces my trust in you!

Logic can't be:

1. Somebody's
2. Flawed

There always is a Virmire Survivor, who also is a possible LI. The way (s)he was treated in ME2 is the way (s)he will be treated in ME. It's a sort of Janus. So my logic is flawless [bashes head against wall].

Except that the Virmire Survivor isn't just one person its two who each can die in the first ME game, they are independent from each other in that sense. They both are officers in ME 2, but they still are each respective characters.

After Virmire they are mutually exclusive = interdependent. One dies, the other one lives through ME2.

They both are officers in ME 2, but they still are each respective characters.

Not any more. Both got the same lines and attitude. Their preME1 baggage is pretty much irrelevant after Virmire and Horizon.

That is what I feared. I still say that if you only said Liara that the ground that you are standing on would be more solid than it is when you include the Virmire survivor.

Wouldn't it save more money if they just kept the squaddies from Mass Effect 2 as squaddies in Mass Effect 3? The way I see it:

You have 10 potential cameos. You have to script sequences for each of those cameos, and you have to record dialogue for those cameos. But if squadmates are dead, then these cameos don't happen. That's a lot of work for something so insignificant that may not show up in people's games anyway. Then you have to hire new voice talent for the new voice actors. New voice actors for new characters + voice actors for potential cameos = profit?

Not from where I'm standing. I think it's easier just to keep the squaddies to a squad composed of ME1 survivors and ME2 survivors. They're either in your squad and have some dialogue, or they're not. And...no thanks, I'd rather keep my squad limited to people I know. I don't want to see any new faces on Shepard's ship who arrived just in time to stop the galaxy from ending who weren't there from the first two times.

My five new squadmates:

batarian
female turian
Lt. Forzan vas Idenna
salarian

Eh, four seems like a better number. That's Liara, Kaidan/Ashley, plus four new people. Six squadmates just like in the first game.

OK, what were they thinking when they made all the kewl fashion show winners expendable in the end of ME2?

I will bite my dick off if the majority of the ME2 squad if not all don't return. This thread is ridiculous and pessimistic to the core. Bioware would lose a lot of face and fans if they just abandon all the ME2 squadmates and it would make ME2 pretty much meaningless if you leave the best people to recruit some subpar replacements when you're meant to be fighting the Reapers.

They will return. Cameos, DLC. Miranda perhaps will be a major NPC with a placeholder in case she is dead on somebody.

Nnnnnope.

FFS, will you stop using the 'HURR LOGIC IS NEITHER SOMEONE'S NOR FLAWED' argument, it's a pedantic troll method of ignoring someone's actual content in favor of calling them wrong while using a specialized definition of the same word. An accepted synonym for 'logic' is 'thought process', or 'method of reasoning'. Christ, I can hear Bertrand Russell turning in his goddamn grave.

And hey, your logic is flawed again because the Virmire survivor is not always a possible love interest. Male Shepard can save Kaidan, female Shepard can save Ashley.

Can't let you doo that, Zoo-loo.

That its safe to assume the majority of people playing ME2 will go out of their way to insure everyone survives. This isn't just a possible outcome, it is an achievement.  Player behavior is entirely predictable and a lot of people are paragon completionists. So damning the ME2 cast to cameos just because Bioware gave you the option to watch them die is a bit premature, just IMO.

Emotionally engaging narrative.

Whether or not it was emotionally engaging? Well, your mileage may vary.

But honestly, it's not THAT hard to keep the squadmates alive. If it was harder to keep them alive during the Suicide Mission, I'd be all over the idea of new squadmates likes flies on an attractive pile of manure. But since it's more difficult to kill characters than it is to keep them alive (you know, by ignoring everything the game tells you to do) I'm more skeptical to the idea of pigeon holing the Mass Effect 2 squadmates as cameos in favor of a new squad.

But hey, it can happen.

Personally I value all 12 members of the ME2 cast over Liara/Ash/Kaidan. As far as I'm concerned, Liara/Ash/Kaidan are the 3 worst characters from ME1, while Tali, Garrus and Wrex are the 3 I want to see return in ME3.

Hope to see a Liara/Kaidan/Ash cameo again in ME3 8)

That's great. They clapped their hands enough already, and yet they'll experience all possible cameos. BioWare could make a special medal for ME3: "Get All Cameos".

For one, I still don't have that silly "No One Left Behind" achievement. It would take about 15 minutes to replay the "suicide mission" on "casual", but I'm too lazy. And I won't get Mordin, Tali, Thane, Jack, Jacob and Grunt cameos, because I killed them off for "my canon". Poor me.

To be fair, I thought part of the reason they bought it was because Kaidan/Ashley and Liara were supposed to have "cool cameos."

Yeah, we've seen how the fans of those respective characters have been treated as far as the cameos go. Armed with the knowledge of how the cameos of those characters were treated, I don't think fans of Mass Effect 2 characters will be jumping the gun to buy Mass Effect 3 if the squadmates are put into cameo roles.
