Actually, what Apollo said was true even though there is some truth to what you said as well. What you're ignoring is that greater muscle mass requires more energy to maintain and therefore losing muscle mass(such as through sedentary activity like playing WOW all day) will lower your metabolism.
This is one of the reasons why women generally have a harder time staying thin than men.
I added the atrophy and reasons for atrophy. Yes, obviously the more muscles you have the more energy you need to feul them.
Doing anything exessively isn't good (ie. why I do pushups and run up and down the stairs etc [every 1.5 hours] when I'm doing long gaming sessions and contract/stretch out my muscles while I'm playing every few minutes, and go outside with the dog after a few hours)
And yes I know everybodies metabolic rates are vastly different. Point I was making is that if they can figure out their metabolic rate, and if they take in less energy than the BMR needs, their activity is irrelevant (though not irrelevant for body health and muscle status, and less activity will eventually lead to less muscle and decrease BMR) and they will lose weight as the body breaks down fat stores (and eventually muscles stores, etc) for food.
Looks like I'm rambling.
