Why in the world was there only one human origin and a Human Noble origin no less why couldn't there at least benn a human commoner origin I mean there is a Dwarf commoner origin to go with the Dwarf noble origin and I can think of at least one idea for a human commoner origin
1. Being a peasant born with nothing in redcliffe and being recruited into the arl's guard until word of the blight reaches redcliffe and duncan comes looking for recruits for the grey wardens. Also your companion for the origin could've been that **** Ser JoryImage IPB

If you read through the conversation trees in the toolset, it would seem that they did originally plan for there to be a Human Commoner origin. I read something in the forums about the concept not being able to fit into the grand scheme of things so they decided to cut it? Not entirely sure.

I think I read somewhere that there was a human commoner origin but they dropped it because it didn't fit the story, but I suspect time / resources where a bigger factor. Anyway, you could always be a human mage.

^^beaten to it, guess I shouldn't spend so long writing

That's exactly what it was going to be.

A bit of both.  There was a human commoner origin, but it wasn't up to standards, and there wasn't time to redo it.

Barbarian would have been cool. You could have been one of the chasind wilder folk. Fingers crossed for number two, though exceptionally doubtful. Too bad.

Yes, a Chasind PC romancing Morrigan, a Witch of the Wilds, would have made for very interesting dialogue!!  Image IPB

Yep, I could see the barbarian origin fitting in the story

Morrigan: You fear barbarians will swoop down upon you?
Alistair: Yes, swooping is...
Barbarian PC: Boo!
Alistair: ARGH!!!.... hey... you scared me... don't do that again.

:P

Personally think we should be thankful that bioware went out their way to give ous as much as they did with dragon age, alot the things in dragon age been things people had asked for countless of times on NWN 1-2 forums that has finally come to ous, the fact game production processes become largely more demanding at least for non consoles, i think we should be thankful we got a game with as many starting options and customizabilities and character development was given as DAO has provided.

Imagine Biowares time, schedules and resources already reached it limits and imagine it being a reason why it wasent included, but in a whole i think we should just be thankful for the large pool of content we been asking for a long time has finally been delivered on.

But maybe thats just me...

I'm pretty sure a bioware official said "Having a human commoner would be too much like having a "chosen one". It would be like every other rpg ever, and wouldn't fit with the origins feel."

There were several threads on this topic just before the origins release date. Try a search, they are an interesting read.

Yes it's a shame, I'd have liked a commoner origin. With enough imagination it wouldn't have had to be stereotypical - look how well the dwarf commoner turned out.

I hate it that they call it a dwarf 'commoner.' Casteless dwarves are NOT commoners. If they wanted a commoner they should have made a merchant/miner dwarf. Casteless dwarves are the pariah of society and if you think you're going to see what life is like for your average dwarf...you really don't.

That is indeed true...but I guess "dwarf casteless" wouldn't mean much to a new player.

They don't need a different origin for Dalish mages, just give Dalish elves the option to be a mage.

I don't know, wouldn't most people know that in a caste system having no caste is bad? It would actually give players a better idea what to expect.

Why not?

Because it would have been horribly horribly cliche.

It's kind of hard for a feeble peasant to have any kind of martial skill that the GWs would find potentially useful.

And there are two human origins, noble and mage. You're free to imagine your mage was born to peasant parents.

Most people would assume that having no caste means you're outside of the caste system. There's no such thing as a "casteless" in the real-world caste system of India. The people at the bottom, the "untouchables," are kept in that place precisely because it's their caste, which is something that cannot be changed. Everyone who's not part of the caste system is not subject to its restrictions.
