I'm thinking about what armor can be considered the best "general purpose" one.
There are armors sets specifically designed to counter a particual "threat", Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate Armor Set, for example, is perfect to counter dragons or any fire based attack.
In Awakining the asnwer is easy: Sentinel Armor set, with no doubt.

But what Origins Armor is best suited for "general purpose"

Cailan's Armor Set, http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Cailan's_Armor_Set
Warden Commander Armor set (sadly it is bugged on XBOX and grants no set bonus) http://dragonage.wik...ander_Armor_Set
Juggernaut Armor Set ( however it is not a tier 7 item)
http://dragonage.wik...rnaut_Armor_Set
Effort Armor set (wonderful Grey Warden style armor but I read the healing effects are partially bugged)
http://dragonage.wik...rnaut_Armor_Set
Legion of the dead Armor set (does not seem superior to previous but I many be wrong) http://dragonage.wik..._Dead_Armor_Set

Any other set? A mixture of items from multple sets?
As you may have noticed I focused mainly on Massive Armors but if you have other suggestions I'd appreciate them.

Thank You.

Well, your own links seem to suggest that Cailan's set is ridiculously overpowered (and I thought the Warden commander's was bad...), so here's your answer.

DLC aside, this.

this post actually caught my eye on something, what does it mean if u see cailans armor set is (teir5-7)?? does that mean in awakening it goes to tier 7?? cuz every time ive got it it has always been teir 5 no matter what lvl i got it at.

Some armour is lvl specific when you get it in the game the later you get it the higher the lvl. If you get armour like that and place it in the storage chest in Wardens Keep untill you are few lvls higher the tier lvl was upgrade till it reaches the limit :)

On the console version, the armor can be upgraded by putting it in the party storage chest, leaving the map and returning. On the PC version, the armor can only be upgraded by selling it to an NPC vendor such as Mikhael Dryden.[/list]

Best all around armor is clearly Evon the Great's Mail. Moreover, Evon the Great's in combination with Wade's Superior Dragonscale Plate (Heavy Armor) gloves and feet still provides the set bonus of -25% fatigue and added defense.

Thank You for your suggestions. I noticed the power of Cailan's Armor. It is my most used armor set. During my first playthrough I used it even in Awakening until I obtained the Sentinel armor.

Evon the Great's Mail has wonderful stats but I prefer to wear massive armors, just a personal taste but I axquired the armor and I'll use it a couple of times.

It happened to me too. I upgraded it with the party chest procedure.
It was a strange event since every other item was on tier 7 during Ostagar mission. I suppose the tier of Cailan's arms and armor is determined in the moment you acquire the mission. That's the only explanation I can think about, except for considering the possibility of a bug.

I love using the juggernaut set. Even though it's tier 6, the damage type resistances rock. Add to that the ring that gives +20% damage type reductions, and you're taking ridiculously low amounts of damage, even when a mage is casting on you.

The other stuff is great too, but I suspect preferences are going to largely be based on personal playing styles.

Are you talking about the "ring of ages"? Very interesting items indeed.

Yeah, I'm bad with names. The ring that has 20% resistance to each of the spell types. I use that, key to the city and the spellward token, and when I partner those with the juggernaut armor I feel like I take nearly no damage at all.

Then again, for me having lots of benefits to my items is suuuuper shiny.  (5 damage resistances?  +2 to all stats?  SARASA!  I'M BACK IN THE GAME!):D

I found my melee characters using Wade's Superior Dragonbone and Legion of the Dead, though I had Sten using a mismatched Effort set in one playthrough. My PC used Juggernaut in one playthrough too. I think the only I used in all my playthoughs (for various reasons) is Legion of the Dead, probably just because I like the look. Black is Cool!  Really, there isn't a bad choice in that group.

Note: I didn't buy the DLCs so I was just using what I found and didn't use the Dragon Bone Plate.

I agree.  None of those are bad choices at all.  Neither are the DLC heavy/massive armor choices.  It really just is a matter of what you want from the set bonuses and such.

Myself I like too the Blood Armor set v1.0, but a part is certainly because it is for me the best looking armor set. But also the +50 health isn't that bad, it's almost 10 CON points saved or as bonus and it makes a real difference particularly when you took care to increase your CON/Health. A 2H warrior with higher health level is an interesting option.

But well Cailan set makes it obsolette on health point of view and Juggernaut set is a rather powerful one when you need elemental protection ie very often..

With Awakening that's different but that's another point.
