Insanity is too hard for me

Even using the Collector Rifle and my team's biotics, its seriously too much just to kill even one enemy. Don't even get me started on the Scion, it takes like 10 clips to take them down. I understand it is called Insanity for a reason but I think enemies should go down faster - much faster. I'm currently doing the run now and every major encounter becomes an hour affair. Go to cover, slowly deplete enemy shields, wait for powers to recharge, shoot, go back, and so forth. There are also times when a certain enemy will just walk straight into your area, and you can't do much because he/she has a barrier and getting out of cover to kill the enemy means you're dead.

This is not a rant or anything, I love ME2. This is my 3rd playthrough and I beat ME1 7 times. And no, I'm not arguing that ME3's difficulty should be made more casual, just smarter. It just doesn't make sense that even low-tier enemies need 2 clips to go down.

Thoughts?

You're arguing that ME3's difficulty should be made more casual. Also, this isn't a particularly difficult game by any stretch. I made it through Insanity just fine and dandy. Sorry.

Now that I've duly slapped you for what I think was a poorly worded argument, I'll help you. Because I actually think you're right. The problem with the difficulty curve in this game is that it's based entirely around classic RPG concepts. By and large, it just means that at higher difficulties, enemies have more HP and additional defense layers and that's it. They also seem to be a bit more aggressive, but otherwise there's no noticeable change in the AI.

And that's the problem right there. I actually enjoy playing the game at the higher difficulties because as it is, it's much more of a tactical challenge, and the game actually becomes more about tactics and less about twitch shooting the higher the difficulty is, and that's great. But if there's one thing Bioware really could have taken from the shooters they looked at for ideas, it's that some of them have considerable AI changes at higher difficulties - the enemies are smarter. That doesn't really happen in ME2, the damage output/HP ratios are just tilted more and more in favor of the bad guys. I think it works as it is, but it could be done better.

I do agree, I love insanity, but I rather see more enemies with better AI on screen than enemies with more shield bars. More enemies, more enemy types and better AI is a better way to make insanity.

stacking shield types is extremely boring-mode to whittle down basic grunt units, its not hard, just tedious.

Brings back further memories of ME1 at level 60 on Insanity, taking hours to kill basic groups of units. It is not a difficulty factor, it is simply an annoyance factor. ME2 has much improved on this, but it is still somewhat similar to the first game in that the difference between Casual-Insanity is the enemy hit points, shields, damage, and reaction times. They don't really "get smarter".

All said and done, Insanity is definitely more fun to play on than any of the other difficulties (I've only tried Normal for like the first 30 mins of the game and the rest of the time I've played on Insanity, so I really don't know in ME2 tbh), but I would like improvements to be made on enemy AI through seperate difficulties.

Scions are meant to be one of the toughest mobs in the game. They don't appear that often anyways. Honestly horizon gave me fits but it felt great finally beating it. I think it's fine

Sorry but I'll never agree with this argument.

If the Insanity difficulty proves too ... insane ... lower it. That's why there are a variety of difficulties. Why, if it is so agonizing and impossible, do you NEED to play the game at Insanity difficulty? Do you just want the achievement? To prove your machismo? Why should Bioware lower the hardest difficulty of the game for you, when you could just turn it down? If they did "tweak" the hardest difficulty, what would all the thousands of people who had no problem with it do?

The way the system is now, there are plenty of degrees of challenge. What you're asking is that they tone down the hardest degree of challenge because you're too proud to lower the difficulty setting. That's..pretty ridiculous.

I completely agree, insanity in ME2 is beyond ridiculous I can't get past the first time you are on the collectors vessel and its a trap.

This. There are difficulty settings for a reason. If its too hard for you then tone it down to hardcore or something you won't lose your manhood in doing so.

Exactly.

For some reason these threads complaining about insanity being too hard really wind me up.

He comes in to have non-ranting discussion and this is how you answer him?

I don't remember how ME2 was really, but I recently tried ME1 Insanity and my god it took me way too long to kill someone. Sure it's supposed to be hard, but to me it just gets real tedious spending forever just taking down one enemy. Especially at the beginning when your weapons are so weak and all you got is the pistol.

I hated ME1 Insanity. It wasn't hard it was actually extremely easy but it took so darn long to kill anything. I remember fighting the boss on Feros and it took me 30mins to beat it and I was scared I was going to die because of that stupid warp knocking me down constantly. Then Liara for some reason couldn't be revived because I guess she fell through a crack in the floor maybe.

Insanity on ME2 honestly wasn't that terrible minus Horizon (which I didn't find to bad), Collector Ship, and then the Biotic Shield part. The thing is you need to take cover and have patience. Come up with new strategies also if your having trouble in certain parts.

If you downloaded Kasumi then she is very helpful and so is the Locus. Those two combined things made Insanity feel like Normal to me in most parts of the game.

I just got bored on Insanity. It became more of a chore than anything.

The problem is that every game just decreases your health and increases the enemy health. I want a game that has difficulty based on AI skill, not relative health.

What class are you playing?

What bonus power are you using?

What abilities are you mainly developing?

Which squaddies are you using? (how have you specced them?)

Which special weapon/extra weapon training are you using?

Have you upgraded everything that can be upgraded?

I play for fun. If a difficulty level ceases to be fun and just starts to be frustrating, I lower it. If a game has only one difficulty level and it's frustrating me, I stop playing. As a result, finishing the game on insanity is the only achievement I haven't completed on ME1 and 2.

I have a few questions for u? Are you using new game+ when you play insanity? What class are you using? What level are you starting from? Talk to us and lets see if we can help out.

Also, how do you level your squad-mates? Do you put points into their class passive power?

Let me put on my +10 flame repellant armor before I say this - Killzone 2.

Anyway, uh, since Norieaga changed the thread title (?!), here's what worked for me - take it slow. Analyze the map layouts. Figure out good cover spots. Pause the game to plan your strategy. Always assign safe places to your squadmates to make sure they don't get killed all the time so you can keep using their powers. If necessary, place them somewhere they can't shoot from. Almost every one of the difficult spots in the game, with the exception of the last area of Horizon which I still insist is a complete clusterf**k that doesn't make any sense, has some kind of a trick to it. The level design is nice that way, it's really almost always fair. If you've played through the game several times, you really should be able to figure it out.
