I'm wondering if he's picking on me or something, and should I give him a beat down.

First - no, I don't agree. I don't mind that my actions are not voiced.

Second, in reference to what I bolded.. Buy the game instead of pirating it hmm? Then come and complain about stuff.

I hear myself whenever I choose an option ..in my head...that way I can have my OWN voice of my choosing do the dialogue...

Scottish accent, irish accent, cockney english ...continental indian... all doable... depending on what I am doing..:innocent:

meh for me personally i felt more connected to shepard than i do my character in DA BECAUSE he spoke.

And as for the tech arguments for why they didn't add voice perhaps you guys havn't heard of this little thing called The Old Republic. Completely voiced from start to finish and bigger than every bio game combined and then some.

Having the main character not speaking in the dialog scenes is far from a game breaker.

Also, how have this been an issue to the OP if he hasn't already bought the game?

Bah, I'm gonna go play some more. =)

I also enjoy the fact that the player character isn't voiced in this game. It worked in Mass Effect due to the limited dialogue. There was a great point made about it though. In Mass Effect your Commander Shepherd regardless of anything else. That's who the hero is; no choice in the matter. I also find it true that the first Shepherd you make is the one you'll always identify that voice with. I know I tried to make a different one, but it just didn't feel right anymore since two character who were nothing alike sounded the same.

In a game like Dragon Age:Origins the character is whoever you want them to be. You have an origin and are a Grey Warden, yes, but you have a name, face, and voice all your own. When I pick dialogues I hear the true voices of my characters in my head, and it feels so much more real.

Mass Effect was like watching an interactive movie. Dragon Age: Origins is creating your own story.
I do hope that made sense.

Back to the original point however; it would never be patched in. Far to large and too much work.

Edit: I need to proof read posts.

Just read the choices out loud :D

I was about to suggest exactly the same thing, and if you are playing another gender get a member of the family in to voice act it. Fun for all the family!

WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUT THE CIRCLE QUESTS

I must admit that when playing through the fade trying to save connor and arl eamon from the desire demon, the conversations I had in there while playing Wynne through it were a breath of fresh air. It seemed lovely to actually select a response and.. hear your choice voiced by the character.

END OF SPOILERS

I do not however miss it that much. The game itself is still an immense experience and even though it'll be a welcome addition for me I don't find it a pressing issue.

Please, honest to god, no. Mass Effect is great, and having your character's dialogue spoken is pretty cool, but it doesn't feel like it's completely my character because of that. And, because there's only one voice actress, I feel like I can't make two different characters and have them be different people.

It's just more immersive if you enjoy roleplaying your character by not having voices.

Everyone record yourselves speaking the dialogue choices as you play then upload them to the community site! We'll have this covered in no time...

Whats with the "its too much argument?" Uh what about SWTOR? That has fully voiced chars including your own. Doesn't wash.

I don't buy the "it's too much" argument. The game already has 80 gazillion lines of spoken dialogue, they could have gone the whole way and added your dialogue. It's not game breaking, but it is distracting for a while.

You don't see this in the correct relation...

The player character can talk to everybody in this game, but while the NPCs only have two, maybe three answers to each line, the player character often has four or five sentences to choose from.

So you'd have to double or triple your "80 gazillion lines of spoken dialogue", which isn't an easy task. ;)

Yeah how many DVD's did you want this game to come on ? Also how much extra did you want to pay for this game, all those voice actors would have to be paid you know...Posted Image

I loved Mass Effect but the spoken dialogue really annoyed me, the character never said what i wanted him to say. example I'd pick the rude choice and he'd say something cleaned up maybe sternly but the chosen words would've been better.

if you want your DA:O character to speak, have it interact with something non human it'll say something just not what you want

In all honesty, I prefer the silent approach. You're playing an extension of yourself, really, unlike in ME where you didn't play an extension of yourself, but Commander Shepard. No matter how you played ME, you were still Commander Shepard. Just either a rambo-Shepard or a friendly neighbourhood Shepard.

In DA:O, your character is essentially an extension of you.

In Dragon Age, you're

For the easy answer, click here.  If you really want the game to be half the length...well...I disagree.

There's also the issue that as soon as you start voicing the main character, you no longer have a role-playing game, since voice carries so much personality.  My female Shepard in Mass Effect could never be the Shepard I wanted to play, simply because the voice was all wrong.

I like the feature, I don't want my dialog to sound like someone else! In fact I'd rather he was totally mute, unless he can magically use my actual voice!

No voice for PC = Much better immersion.

Also as others have said it would collosally dwarf all the rest of the dialog in game, PC is in EVERY conversation, can be of different races / genders / classes. It would be a couple of extra DVDs / years to develop I guess!!

Maybe someone will mod it for you in a few months... ? (Hope BioWare don't waste time on it!)

Oh come on! use your brain, Bioware have never said that a fully voiced PC was impossible, basically what it comes down to is that they considered this and then made a conscious decision not to include it most likely due to budget restraints.

Think about it,  DA had a set budget which they used up on getting the game to the state it is in now, if they had gone with the full voice over idea lets assume they wouldnt have done a half assed job and would have used more than just 1 female and 1 male voice actor for all the race and origin combos, when taking that into account  you begin to realise what a massive ammount of voice work would be needed to provide voiced PC dialogue for the entire game...6 times over for every race....12 if they wanted to do it for every origin..... now think about how much all that would cost, however much doing all that costs is how much they wouldnt have been able to spend on the rest of the game, the result being I think when I saw a dev mention this is that the game we have now would be about 50% shorter, when considering that I'll take the PC without a voice anyday.

Star Wars undoubtedley being an MMO will have a massive budget making it possible, but for just a second consider how much bigger and better SWTOR would be if they didnt voice any of the PC's....... Say NO to voiced player characters, they ruin the immersion making the character someone elses rather than mine and I prefer more content over silly fluff such as full voice overs anyway.

I love full voice acting and it's a shame that the player is silent, but I can understand why. It's a much larger game than Mass Effect. It does kill the immersion a little for me, but I can get over it.

Of course your character IS voiced, for after-battle quips etc. Now THAT was pointless, but if you were going to be voiced for dialogue you'd have to use the same voice for the quips too.

I would also point out that in MA, Shepherd didn't just repeat the line you chose, he/she said something along the same lines but it was different.

I think on the whole I'd would prefer voiced dialogue. Immersion is not a problem. I know I don't look like my character so why would I sound like him? At the moment he feels a bit like an emotionless mute, especially with all the small 'goodness-look-at-that' cut-scenes, when he slightly raises his eyebrows. (see? it's not me, it's 'him').

I'm guessing the OP never even thought about all the difficulites and work and how limited our dialogue system would be if our character actually spoke.

This was a design decision, 12+ possible character voices and tons of dialog options for 6 six origin stories vs two character voices and 1 origin story. I greatly enjoyed the part where I played as Morrigan and she talked basically under the same system Mass Effect used, and personally I'd prefer that system with 6 voices (male and female for each race). That said, a different set of people complained about the lack of voice options in Mass Effect (there's no black voice, there's no asian voice, I don't like this voice actor, etc...), so there's no right answer for BioWare here.

Regardless, this is not something they can or will patch, so stop asking for that. Also, if you're playing a pirated copy of this game BioWare should ban you, they shouldn't be trying to convince you to buy it.
