Just a Crazy thought that occured to me while playing...

What if those that Don't succeed in the Joining don't die? they only appear to be dead.

Their bodies are taken by a warden to a drop point, they rest in a coma like state until they reach their final destination and are awoken to become part of the Elite Group of Black Wardens.

Because of their reaction to the Ritual they lose all memory, their names, their identities, they become a blank slate, a lump of clay to be molded.

They take on tasks deemed impossible, suicide missions, they work in small groups and never leave a trace of their presence behind, untrackable and untracable they're the ultimate Darkspawn killers.

And why should that be so? The Grey Wardens are the ultimate Darkspawn killers who go on suicide missions and work in small groups themselves.

Eh I'm pretty sure they're dead. Though the name does sound catchy...

The downside of being presumed dead is that, in Ferelden at least, you get cremated. ;)

There is also a very rarely seen group, who are constantly on the move because they ran away from The Joining. They are known as The Blurry Yellow Wardens.

edit:-  Actually, what I should have said too, was - I like the idea - the ones that succeed do go into a coma in Awakenings don't they... but I think the intention is that if you don't take The Taint, you're a gonner, full stop.

BUT that IS what fanfiction is for.  You might get people being cross with you, but on the other hand, if readers can accept Batman/Jean luc Picard slashfic (I have no idea whether this exists but you know what I mean), or Dragon Age/Mass Effect crossovers, then if you want to, you should have a go at writing The Black Wardens.  Just wear a hard hat! :)  Good luck!
