No it doesn't but lets just look at the fact that guns do run out of ammo. In a CQB situation I'd much rather have melee weapons then having to reload a gun. Besides you don't need to kill the zombie in melee - disabling it so it can't move as fast or grab you is just as good. The objective is survival. Fleeing an area while disabling zombies works just as well, imo. That's why for my weaponary I'm including dual kukris on top of any guns.
In my tac vest I can carry 400 rounds of .308. If I need more than 400 rounds (excluding backpack) I am screwed anyway, the best sword wouldn't help me out such a situation - because I am obviously fighting against a whole city full of zombies.
Spear is a good idea, just aim for the head.

Only if you´re Woody Harrelson. Because for the rest; blugrass is an effective weapon against the living; not the undead.chiliztri wrote...
I disagree.
A banjo would be the next best weapon.

You're screwed to begin with in a zombie world - so many zombies, so few bullets. And .308 rounds? Are you trying to take down an elephant zombie?
Personally I would never use any melee weapon that could not be used in very tight quarters, this includes most swords. That's why I prefer knives. Yeah it has little reach but I would try to make up for that in mobility. That's my theory.

Some specs:
Blade: 12"
Overall: 17"
Thick: 5/16"
Weight: 22oz.
Gives enough reach to be effective for both cut or smashing with the spine of the blade. Has enough weight where it can crack, if not crush, a skull, but still light enough for easy mobility.

A kukri hardly fits the definition of knife. Due to how the main mass and where the center of gravity is placed, it is closer to an axe.

But it's not an axe.
