Hello all,
I just purchased mass effect for the PC and I am having multi core performance issues. The game seems to be running at double speed. When I enter dialogue and cutscenes the sound lags behind the video, and in combat the enemies move too fast to shoot. I set the affinity to a single core and the game was still running at double speed. Any ideas?

It happens because windows xp hadnt been designed to run dual core cpu's. I had the same problem until I switched to Vista, now on W7. So, try installing Service Pack 3 (it's supposed to fix that problem). What is your CPU Frequency ?
If SP3 wont help it's the time to start planning to buy a new pc with new os

Go to the AMD website for processor drivers, and find the AMD Dual core optimizer. Install that, and it should help with the issue. If that doesn't work, start the game, alt+tab out, bring up task manager. right click on the mass effect exe and go to Set Affinity. Uncheck one of the CPU's and exit task manager. Your game should run at normal speed now.

The AMD core optimizer worked. Setting affinity prior to installing that was not helping.
