I just recently started modding ME2 (or at least attempted to) and am having some difficulties that perhaps someone here can help with.  I have some experience in modding both PC and Xbox saves using Modio and have never run into this issue before.

Basically what happens is this: I transfer the career save back to the Xbox after the normal procedure of modding the save, injecting it back into the career save, rehashing and saving onto the USB disk .  Once I start up ME2, I don't have the option to load a game.  I exit back out into the dashboard, check the memory on the HD and the career save is just gone.  I've tried it multiple times and have confirmed that the data is indeed on the HD before starting the game.  If I don't rehash before saving and then transfer, the load game works but of course it's corrupted.  I can't seem to figure out why this keeps happening.  Any advice?

What modding did you attempt to do? This most likely happens because of a single mistyped letter, or messing too much with PlotInt Variables and such.

My advice would be to first, delete the modded files as they're a problem

Make a copy of your working backup save, so that You can redo the mods. Do them one by one to confirm they're in working order to weed out the problem

I've backed up, deleted and restored the good data 3 times already. I've also re-downloaded Modio and Gibbed just to be safe. I've even tried using different USB sticks.

As for the actual mods, I thought the same thing (mistyped letter etc.) so for the last few attempts I was merely adding a single credit...that's it. Even that would make my data disappear.

After failing to get the ME2 mods to work, I tried modding something that I had a lot of experience with (Borderlands) and it worked fine using the same USB stick, Xbox and software.

When you start the game does it just start to load and then either freeze or just never get to the load menu?

I have occasionally had this happen...the best I can tell it is when I delete or corrupt some file that the game seems to try to autoload (or at least autoread some data from).  If this sounds like what you're getting, try removing the problem career (from system menu if necessary--you should already have a copy of it, right?),  then start the game and load a different career, then put the modded career back and load it.

Oh and maybe try just injecting a modded savefile as a new save.  I think I have more issues this way when I'm trying to replace the last save used and maybe end up deleting the previous one.

fwiw, you should be able to leave your modded career on your usb stick and run it from there while you're working on the mods.

When I start the game, I don't have the option to load or resume. I'm going to make a quick vid(s) of the procedure that I'm using and the result to better explain my situation.

Ok, so I made a quick video showing what I'm doing and the results.  I apologize for the quality...I did it using my phone in one hand and the controller in the other so it's a little shaky.

Maybe someone else will notice something I didn't, but the only thing I can see is that you seem to be replacing the last file you played...not sure why it doesn't show up as corrupted and just disappears.  Can you do 2 things for me?

1.  Make sure the game is playable before you move it and mod it.  I.e. just load it once and quit.
2.  Rather than replacing the file you are currently playing, try inserting the modded file as Save_1025.xbsav (or whatever you want that is different than the current one) leaving the current save file there.

This isn't exactly like what I have seen, but it seems similar, and in my case I have other careers (and other players careers) on the same box.  Let us know if anything different happens.

I've tried on other career data with multiple saves. I've also injected the modded save instead of replacing it. It still just makes it disappear. An interesting note: if I skip the rehash/rewrite step, the data doesn't disappear...the save just gets corrupted.

I just watched it again (this time I had audio---sorry I didn't catch your narrative the first time, so I didn't realise you had already tried insertions, etc).

Okay, grasping at straws here.  I've been running my modded careers from usb only (esp. since it's not my xbox I'm playing on) so you're running into issues I haven't seen.

1.  What do you get if you keep the career on the usb, start the game, load (hopefully you have the load menu), and try to load from different device?

2. Or if you move the career to usb, use the device explorer of Modio to find and extract the "career file", move the unmodded career back to HD,  mod the save in the copy of the career file and load that to usb, then start game (with original career on HD and mod career on usb), go to load menu, switch device and load from usb.

If anyone else has ideas, feel free to chime in.

Ok, so an update. I just tried changing everything. A new USB stick, a different PC and a freshly downloaded copy of Modio and Gibbed. Worked fine this time. I'm wondering if perhaps my version of Modio was outdated. I don't think that's the case as I just updated recently...probably around 3 months ago. Maybe some weird bug tied to the PC I was using or the USB stick...even though they both work fine with other games.

Definitely that. :)

Glad to hear it's now working.  I wonder if something was corrupted with the usb stick formatting so it was not properly copying the file back to the xbox.  Maybe see if the orig usb still has same problem, and if so then reformat it and see if it is fixed?

Ah. USB sticks meeting the 360 requirements. I figured that's what might be up with mine. What sticks are you guys using?

@c3pu2: DrChia indicated the usb worked fine for other games...so I wouldn't think that would be the problem. If it was the usb, I would rather suspect a formatting problem, since the xbox stores different games in different folders on the usb. Maybe there was a format glitch right where me2 was wanting to write.

@ak404: I would think any reasonable usb would work these days. I've only tried a cheap 4Gb Kingston that I got years ago. It seems to work fine.

If i use this, is it possible to fix Omega: Packages for Ish?
I convinced Ish to give up his idea using the paragon option, but the mission is still open.

I don't know for that specific problem.  There are quest progress information in the raw tab that wasn't displayed in the original Gibbed, so if you or someone wanted to figure out which quest that is and how to set the progress it could probably be done.  (If something is not editable on the quests that you need for that, I'd be happy to make the change.)

StMael posted here a link to a thread about editing the IFF install trigger that I think could be done with the quest info now, but I haven't looked into it.  Epic Legion has also been finding a lot of info about me2 flags, so he might have some ideas.  If you find anything in the pc forums, we could try to implement it here, too (unless it's coalesced.ini editing).

Sorry I can't give you the answer, but maybe someone will find it.

Thanks for the follow up. I'm only a little concerned because i chose this option on my first playthrough.
I just hope it doesn't impact ME3 if Ish is supposed to make a reappearance.

Is there a forum where Epic Legion is posting his discoveries?

Epic Legion posts it in his sig but his on-line tool forum is here. It doesn't look like anything new has been posted for a little while.

I've also just recently began modding my ME2 files.

I have had no problems until I downloaded Genesis earlier tonight. Now after I injected a modded file into my save using Modio and rehashed and resigned like normal I am getting a corrupted save. It is corrupted on my memory card. It says so via the memory menu where I would transfer the save from the card back to my HD.

Has the resign and rehash changed with Genesis, or is there another possible problem?

FYI I added a second power, something I have done successfully several times over the past few days, that has become the corrupted save.

Same here : Genesis downloaded, and it doesn't work anymore for any modification.
Gonna retry with Genesis deleted, and tell you guys what's going on.

Tip : I modded tons of stuff before Genesis, and it all worked ;)

I was going to do the same thing.

I've done everything Genesis is designed to do with Gibbeds anyway.

I'll wait to see what you discover erAsercrAsh

Here's what I found out

-With Genesis installed :
Editing a save made with Genesis : Not OK.
Editing a save made with Genesis, and faked into a ME2 finished, to bea able to make a NG+ : Not OK.

-Once Genesis has been deleted from my console :
Editing a save made from scratch in ME2 : Not OK.

I still have to try and modify a legit ME1 imported save, but I have some serious doubts.

Seems like Bioware managed to block all save modding this time.
