Completely remove it/leave it empty. Otherwise, Jacob will continue to use Barrier. You can respec Jacob (and every other squadmate) after completing Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Neither Modio or gibbed is reading my USB for save files, or any data for that matter.

Gibbed won't read the xbox formatted usb.  So either Modio (some ppl have said they had trouble with the beta 4), or you can also try usb-xtaf I think it's called.   I put a temp link to a copy of Modio I d/l on page 156, which you can try if you are currently trying Modio beta 4.

Also, what errors are you seeing?  Are you following the steps in the OP?

 Is there somewhere I can see what the the text analogues of male/female hair styles look like rather than going back and forth between my 360 and my PC every time? Merely a matter of convenience, nothing incredibly important.

Try looking at the hair tutorials linked in this post.  The me2faces tutorial has pictures and tutorials for both male and female iirc.  Javier's you want to look at the me2 mod codes for the hair codes.

The gibbed editor allows you to create a new save file, but it doesn't create a new career. Is there any way to do that without firing up the game for the new career file?

Short answer no.

Slightly longer answer: depends what you are trying to accomplish.  See this post for info about the career file and renaming one for reuse as a second career.

Also, other than displaying properly in the career chooser in the game, you can put different saves into the same career file.   So which is the best choice depends a little on what you want to accomplish.

Well, then. I'm not an expert on using the Save Editor and Modio by a long shot, but it seems I have a bit of a problem. I'm starting up a new playthrough on ME2, and I know that some decision and questlines in ME1 won't be accurately reflected, so I'm going to use the Save Editor to fix them.

So I saved at the very beginning of the game, after you get your pistol from the locker. I go to format my USB drive and save the career on it, and go to Modio.

Here's where it gets tricky. Modio tells me no save game exists, and when I go to open the USB files up, I see nothing but four Data files reading:
Data0000
Data0001
Data0002
Data0003

This has never happened to me before, but I've never tried exporting my save game at the prologue, either. I'll get to Freedom's Progress and try again, and see if that works. In the meantime, can anyone point me out on my error?

EDIT1: Odd, it seems I had to use Xport360 in order for Modio to find the save. Never had to use that before.

EDIT2: Now, it says I can't save to device, as, once again, no profiles were detected. Anyone who can help?

Saving just after waking up is fine.  That isn't the problem.

Well those data files are what the xbox formatted drive looks like to windows.. that's why you need Modio or usb-xtaf to read them.  Which version of Modio are you using?  Some ppl have mentioned the v4 beta doesn't work--I haven't tried it.  Maybe try usb-xtaf?  Some ppl prefer that over modio.  If you are using the newer one, try this version and let us know.

The only other thing I can think of is if the xbox doesn't like your usb... but if it formats it that seems unlikely.

you can get assault rifle/shotgun/sniper rifle cause they r the one you can get from the collector ship so as an adept you already have handgun/smg/heavy so you can have all weapon but you can only carry 5. personaly i dont take the havy cause they are kind of usless and shep look way better without it.

to get it you have to go to ⇒player⇒skill/upgrades⇒weapon bonus then you put 1 under training and 2 under the special weapon 
you can also unlock all the weapon you find in the game 
i would have put a picture of what it should look like but i cant manage to find how to do it so if you guys know how tell me and ill put one

I did that, stopped using the Shotgun because I like my DLC Heavy Weapons.

Is there a way to take off the SMG instead? I tried looking for it, but it looks like I have to do some fiddling with the code, which I don't know how to do.

I have a file in my project with "interesting posts".  A couple are about weapon moddings I think.  IIRC they discuss putting something over the pistol, so I think you could do the same for the smg.  The only drawback as I recall is anytime you pick up an smg or go to your weapons locker it will reset things.

you can prevent that from apening by unloking all the smg trough gibbed

any of you have probleme with moded save since the demo came out couple days ago me2 updated my save worked fine but since i got the demo it just goes bad crap crazy

EDIT: everything back to normal got scared for a minute aparently me2 was going crazy again and wouldnt read it made it lighter by deleting some save in the carrer and now it reads itno idea what the **** apenned

talking about me3 demo

I haven't tried since the demo... but my son has played his me2 since then.  Hmmm.  Maybe it wasn't a modded save.  I'll have to check when I get home.

The Mass Effect 1 section says you need to import the save as a new game for it to take effect. However the save doesn't show up when I try and import it, only my other 2 saves do.

A lot of the same plot flags are under the me2 table.  If so, they take effect the same game.  If you go the me1 tab route, then follow the instructions in Javier's google docs (linked in the OP).  You must set things the way you want and then under the raw tab set the game as finished: Lived to fight another day.  Note that the Conrad Verner bug is only fixed with the me2 plot table flags.  This apparently is a bug in the game import itself.
