Ohhh, that just killed it for me.

Well thats why I am going to wait and see,  I'm thinking not all of them are..just some of the really vocal ones I saw lately.   And some of them state they are going to drop Wow forever, once Tor comes out.   hehe

They'll drop WoW  for a while, then they'll probably go back to WoW and troll SWTOR as an "Epic Fail" when they become dissatisfied.

That sounds like hell, scyphozoa. Not my idea of fun at all. I have trouble keeping up with the Mass Effect forums here. :P Buuut to be fair that's an issue I have with any popular MMO forum. Forget something like the SWtOR boards. I'm a casual Star Wars fan at best. I'm somewhat familiar with the Expanded Universe but I'm no rampant fan that has it all memorized. I haven't actually read any of it. What I do know was gleaned from boring afternoons of listless web surfing.

On the subject of whether I plan to play SWtOR when it releases the answer is no. I may not ever try it. MMOs aren't my thing. I've been interested in trying many over the years but none have drawn me in. I don't see this game changing that unless BioWare's claims are true.

The only piece of obscure Star Wars lore I kinda have memorized is the Exar Kun and Great Sith Wars saga. Because I have the Tales of the Jedi comic omnibus.

Other than that I'm more of a hardcore trilogy fan, and a fan of many of the video games.

Yeah, I just wonder how some MMOs would be if there was no WoW. *Tries to imagine*

Without sounding like a commercial, every class is advertised to have a full story unique to each class. There are Bioware cinematics, dialogue, voice acting, and most importantly, choices. Unlike single player BW games, the choices in SWTOR cannot be undone, or reloaded from an earlier save point. Once you make a choice for your character's story, that is set in stone - and I love that idea.

I will play all 8 classes of SWTOR thoroughly. You don't even need to interact with other people in the SWTOR universe, because companion characters will allow you to run and do all content without playing with other humans. (ie. my companion characters will be two HK47 assassin droids) So regardless of the community, I refuse to miss any BW content. :P

I'm waiting for the day, that Devs stop thinking they have to emulate Wow in some fashion to gain subscribers and survive.

Maybe when that day comes we'll see some more diverse and original games being released.

Besides,  Wow is now about 6 years old,  ..so maybe that day is not so far away.   :)

Diversity is best,   clones are disappointing.

Right, so even if you don't like MMO's you could still play TOR for the essentially 8 KotOR+ sized class-stories.

exactly. I plan on being social and playing with my guild, but for the cinematics and the story-telling, I will definitely opt to solo those experiences so I can craft them to my liking.

I my try it out if that all turns out to be true. I'm unwilling to give BioWare the benefit of the doubt on this, however. It's hard for me to believe they can make an expansive single player experience in an MMO game. The only way I'll believe it is seeing it firsthand.

I haven't found an MMO that kept my interest past the first month, but if anyone could change that it's Bioware. They already have things like full voiceovers that put it way above current MMOs, so I'll wait and see how it turns out. Hopefully there will be an open beta so we can see how the final game will look (and they're going to need some serious stress testing, given the size of the community).

Do you have a guild already?  Sometimes I get into one during closed beta (if I manage to get into closed that is)  tighter community, more like-minded people.

Otherwise, its start playing at release, and hope to find some folks I can identify with.  :)

That's why you can't judge a game by the forums. Some of those people wont even bother to play the game at all, others will leave shortly after (hey, at least it gives the devs a good cash boost). The mature people dont post as much as the "bad" ones, so you really can't judge the final community by what you're seeing now.[/quote]

--------------------END QUOTE--------------------------

True enough, "some" of them will drop by the wayside, because developpment is "taking too long" according to them.   Thats why I stated I'll be waiting, and watching the forums over there...

Well, I need to build a new rig anyway so the longer these games (plus Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3) take to release is fine with me. That said, I'll probably be unwilling to commit the initial $50 or $60 needed to get up and running unless I've read enough outside sources that make me want to play. If I'm going to dive in, I'm going to give it my all. I will likely not "try" it unless I plan to play for at least 6 months.

Edit: Actually, the main reason I ever played WoW (many, many years ago....never even played the first expansion) is because my real life friends were playing. I'd have to be able to connect with some people I genuinely like being around in order to dive into another MMO....

Well if I decide I like what I see, (reviews, screen shots, vids..forum commentary)  I jump in with both feet.   If I get into the closed beta, so much the better, as I usually find folks I can identify with ..make friends, join guilds etc.

I'm picky about guilds however, generally tend to lean toward the older "mature" type of guild.  And I don't join guilds that do drive-by invites.    EVER. :)

For me all this is more reason to start designing a new computer build.....

*sigh*

Oh where, oh where, has my little cash gone.........oh yeah, too much beer!

@ Feraele: I'm with you for sure. I want to play with casual people (not people that make TOR their life) and that have some sense of maturity. Given what ya'll have mentioned about their boards, this is definitely a point in contention. Heh.

Plus, is this game going to work like WoW where Alliance can only play with Alliance and Horde with Horde. What if I want to play a Sith but all the people I know play Jedi, etc. etc.?

I'm thinking about it. It depends on FFXIV really.

This. But allow me to expound a bit.

I was stoked when I heard about TOR, since I'm one of 'them'. Yeah, the people who played SWG and saw the NGE come down. There was an RP story I'd never gotten to finish, and many other things, that I'd hoped to adapt to TOR and carry on. But the art style is... not to my taste. I had someone in my LotRO kin call me a graphics **** for that, but I don't know why. I don't think there is any *technical* aspect of them that is lacking, I just dislike -vehemently- stylized things. So, TOR went from being almost a guarantee buy, to an iffy one. I can't really get into any game if the art style bugs me, whether that's shallow or not.

FFXIV is now my guaranteed buy, because I played FFXI for nearly 5 years, and XIV looks to improve on all the things about XI that drove me nuts. Namely the inability to solo/small man, up until about the Wings of the Goddess expansion, which was too little, too late, in my opinion. Drop rates are also supposedly much improved, and Guildleves look to be taking a more quest-oriented form of leveling. All pluses in my book.

If XIV launches before TOR, and just is not what I'm looking for, I may get TOR. But if XIV is all I wanted in a FF MMO, and I can finally go out of town without needing five others to hold my hands, then I doubt I'll be getting TOR. The only thing that would really induce me to at this point would have to be a seriously epic, well written story, because the art drives me nuts. I'll never be able to RP or take my avatar seriously.

I been on swtor forums almost from opening , but I didn't post much . I even been in one guild that has been closed , guild leader disappeared on us hehe.

Mostly swtor forums have been boring for these two years, there has not been much info about the game, there was a lot of speculations, ideas etc. but nothing confirmed.

Nowdays when we have some info about release date and more info about the game coming our way , things can start beeing interesting after this year E3.

I just hope that stories about 100k players on one server will be true :)

Why can't he post here? I think most of the people posting on the SWTOR forums are going to be playing don't you think?

This is the Off-Topic forum, and it's related to BioWare. I don't see any problem with him wondering about how many DAO and ME players are going to be playing SWTOR.
