Character Background : Colonist - because I don't wanna live on a ship or be living in slums during my childhood.

Military Background : War Hero - I pictured my Shepard holding of a position with a sniper rifle by himself. Which determined my class.

class : Infiltrator - Snipers are boss. If only Shepard could wear a futuristic ghillie suit.

Gender : Male - because I'm male.

Morality : Paragade - I felt it represented how I am in real life, a good friend but f*ck me over and your on a sh*tlist for a long time.

The Council : Saved - Humans just recently joined the galactic stage we don't deserve to dominate in galactic politics. Therefore I kept the Council alive. (metagaming involved)

Human Representative: Anderson - "Nobody backstabs me, Udina. Nobody!"

The Collector Base : Blown the hell up - I'd rather destroy it than give it to a madman whose all about human dominance.

Rachni Queen : Spared - Not a big fan of making species extinct.

Wrex : Saved - He's one of my bros. We talked it out.

Virmire : Kaidan KIA - Just to save Kirrahe and not be so close to a nuke.

Genophage Data : Kept it - Why not? You never know when you may need it.

Heretics : Rewrote - I'd like more Geth at my side.

Samara/Morinth : Samara - Sexing it up with people just to kill them... not cool. Plus, Samara swore an oath to follow me.

L.I. : No one in ME1. Tali in ME2.

Tali's Trial : Incited the crowd - I'm a big fan of rebellion.

Quarian/Geth War : Promoted peace - Like Shepard says, "We'll all end up paying for it".

You don't think so?

I mean, I'm not saying it's going to be quite as simple as what he said, but I don't think it's going to come down to,

keep the collector base = fail
destroy the collector base = win.

Or vice versa.

Character Background : Spacer
I found the fact that he was the only one to have a stable family (not lost to tragedy) to be appealing.  I also liked the fact that he grew up in space.

Military Background : War Hero
I liked the idea of my Shepard being one of those action stars from the 80's.  A one man army capable of single handedly taking down a whole platoon.  I also found the idea of him being a human icon BEFORE the events of the main game cool.

class : Soldier
It was called the best "beginner" class, and it fit well with my whole Arnold-esque "one man army" idea, so I started with it.  I didn't like the other classes as much when I played them on additional playthroughs, so I stuck with it for Mass Effect 2.

Gender
: Male
I just prefer playing as a Male character.  I've got nothing against the female, but my main Shep is just male.

Morality : Paragade
I felt that treating civillians like crap was bad, but treating villains good was even worse.  For the most part my Shepard treats normal people well (unless they act really stupid or frustrate him or something), but he strikes fear into the hearts of all the scum of the galaxy.  I think I ended up being 3/4 Paragon and 1/2 Renegade in both games.

The
Council : I focused on Sovereign
If I was put in that situation, I would go for the treat to the entire galaxy before I would try to save the leaders.  I figured this would make things much more interesting in Mass Effect 2, as I had been mostly an idealistic paragon when it came to human-alien relatioins in ME1.

The Collector Base : Destroyed it
Saren took Sovereign and was corrupted (well, I guess I should say he was further corrupted).  A Cerberus crew checked out a dead repear and became husks.  Besides the fact that I couldn't trust TIM (who, lets face it, is corrupted in the same way Saren was before taking on Sovereign), I had to believe that he would be indoctrinated in some way.  And having a man as powerful as TIM indoctrinated would spell doom for everyone.

Rachni Queen : Saved her.
Honestly, I was really really close to saving her.  At the last minute I considered that the Rachni may have been indoctrinated, and I really felt that killing an entire species was too much for my Shepard.

Urdnot Wrex :
He fell in line
I helped him get his family armor back.  When it came down to making a choice between me or the cure, he decided to take me at my word.

Virmire : Ashely
I didn't hate Ashley.  In fact, I was actively going after her as a romance along with Liara.  But I left her with the bomb, and she said that it was going to go off no matter what.  I had to choose the many over the few.

Casulties: I know I killed Fist, and I believe I killed Chorbon for attacking me.  I also sent his Volus partner away to prison.  I don't think I actively chose to kill anyone besides them.

Genophage Data : Kept it
I don't agree or disagree with the Genophage.  I don't like it, but I see it as a necessary evil.  That being said, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Heretics
: I re-wrote them
I considered them to be indoctrinated.  I would rather erase the effects of indoctrination from ogranic minds than to just kill them out right.  In that sense, I feel I should do the same for these AI's. (Note: This is by far the HARDEST choice for me, and I have flippd flopped on it a few times already.  I may change this before ME3)

Samara/Morinth : I chose Samara.
I had no reason to really kill Samara.  Actually, I don't think I even had the choice in my first playthrough...

Love Interest(s) : Started with Ashley, but then started to feel things for Liara.  After I was forced to leave Ashley behind, I went to Liara for comfort.  After seeing what Liara became in Mass Effect 2, I felt that there wasn't much left in that romance and moved on to Tali.

Background: Earthborn. I wanted my character to be from Earth. :P No other reason really.

Psycholocial Profile:
Sole Survivor. I didn't want my character to be ruthless and I thought being a famous action hero already was a little too cliche for this particular character. And I felt Sole Survivor worked best in this case.

Millitary Specialization:
Vanguard. I've generally been one to pick hybrid classes in games like this, and I felt torn between biotics an combat so Vanguard felt like the best choice for me. I found it to be a lot of fun. :)

Gender:  Male.

Morality: I genreally played very Paragon, but I also accumulated a few Renegade points because I tried roleplaying a character that was sort of "chaotic good" and took justice into his own hands and so ended up assasinating many people I thought desrved to be killed like Sidonis or Saleon. In the first game I had maybe one and half small boxes Renegade and full paragon meter. In the sequal I'd gotten 100 Paragon and maybe just over 25% Renegade.

The Council: I saved them. I thought they were worth saving. It seemed like the right thing to do. They were the galaxy's leaders. I don't remember exactly what my specific thoughts were on my origonal playthrough way back when, but I think even before they offered humanity a seat on the Council, I thought Anderson desreved a promotion so I jumped at the opportuntiy to make him a Councilman.

Collector Base: I kept it. I wasn't happy about it. But The Illusive Man and Mordin convinced me it would be unwise to waste the data that could be gleaned from the place. I was very relectant to hand it over to him but I've never been one to believe that information that could save people should not be used if it comes from unethical sources. I did have a fair amount misgivings afterward though, since everyone including the guy that helped convince me to do so, was questioning my decision to deliver the base to Cerberus' hands.<_<:P

Rachni Queen: I firmly beleived their species deserved a second chance at existence.

Wrex: I talked him down. And was really happy about that.

Virmie: I was not happy about sending one of my team on a near suicide mission with the Salarians. But chose Kaiden. I was worried he'd be killed and was pretty eager to go save him. When Ashley was in trouble at the Nuke site, I really really didn't want to leave Kaiden behind because we'd become friends (and I hadn't use him as much as I'd wanted to) but there really wasn't any real choice to make. Ashley was my love interest AND I prefered taking her on my squad.

Casualties:
Everyone survived the suicide mission, to my astonishment. Helena Blake survied the first game. Fist was killed by Wrex. Shiala also survived. So did that Asari from Virmire. Wasn't really expecting to see her again all that much.

Genophage Data: This was a really interesting one. I never really agreed with the genophage. But I could see how it did prevent a potential disaster. I was amazed that Mordin managed to make me sympathize with his work. Ultimately though, given that I felt bad for both Mordin and Wrex I told Mordin to keep data for later.

Heretics:
I rewrote them. At this point in the game I was trying to gain as many paragon points as possbile before the suicide mission. So I chose to use the virus. And before reaching that point I was reluctant to do so. I suppose at the time though I did feel it was the most compassionate option. Afterwards I did have my doubts though,

Samara/Morinth: Samara unequivocably. Although I didn't have enough paragon/renegade points at the time to even decide. I knew Morinth needed to pay for everythng she'd done. The only thing I regrent was that there was no dramatic "YOUR MURDERING SPREE ENDS HERE MORINTH!"

Love Interets: Ashley Williams. I really liked Ashley in the first game and stayed loyal to her, even after Horizon. I will admit though, the parts of the romances from ME 2 that I did see appeared very well done. I' definately look to romance Jack (and Tali and Miranda too eventually) on another playthrough.

Katrina Shepard (Roleplay)
Character Background : Colonist

This one was rather easy, as I liked the idea of Shepard coming from such a background, it put some real emotional meat on my Shepard's past, and seemed like the most interesting choice between 'Earth gangster' and 'upstanding spacer kid'.

Military Background : Sole Survivor

For me, it was a toss up between Sole Survivor and Ruthless. They both project different images in regards from my chosen Character Background, Sole Survivor implying an incredibly tragic life whereas Ruthless gave a 'grew up anti-social with little regard to human life and it's value' that could of been interesting (and a card I played later on). I went with Sole Survivor because it, again, was the most emotionally charged out of all them, and playing a character who's gone through disaster through disaster and tragedy through tragedy was interesting, I thought.

Player class : Vanguard

Vanguard was by far the easiest decision I made in regards to character creation. Soldier bored me, as I was playing an RPG, not a shooter, and I wanted that healthy mix of powers and combat that the Vanguard delivered on, especially with how awesome shotguns were in the game (not that I knew at the time), I've always considered the Vanguard to flat-out be the coolest class of them all, if only for it's style of combat that would later be emphasized with the glory that is Charge.

Gender: Female

My main Shepard is a female, simply because I almost always choose the female when given the choice. Not because of some retarded reason like 'lol i haz something 2 lok at when im playin teh gaem' but because I always like to see how the game reacts to your choice to play a female, how the dialogue changes, how the world reacts to you. It always bothered me how outside of a few sound-clips, your female character was essentially the male character except with an inexplicable lack of armour. Mass Effect surprised in this regard, and most of the Shepards I've made have ended up female, in no small part due to Jennifer Hale's performance. No skin off Meer's nose, of course, as he does a fantastic job (and a far better job on Renegade dialogue, or at least a far more amusing approach), but Hale's voicework just appealed to me far more.

Morality : Paragon

I feel like I project too much of myself onto Shepard when I'm supposed to be roleplaying, but this is what my main Shepard (and a good chunk of my other ones) boiled down to, but this what my Shepard ended up as, compassionate to the people who deserve yet the judge, jury and executioner of those who don't, although at the same time, shows little compassion to batarians due to her past and while not killing the 'non-hostile' ones, as one might say, she certainly didn't spare medi-gel she could use for herself or her squad (as in on my main Shepard file, I ended up letting the batarian on the street succumb to illness) or spare much a thought to them.

Bring Down the Sky: Let the hostages die but got away with killing Balak. My Shepard just couldn't let Balak walk away and do what he did to so many other people if she let him go. If Balak wouldn't harm anyone else outside Asteroid X57, that'd be fine with her, although she would later contemplate whether or not it was just her bias against batarians that made the decision for her and not her moral integrity.

The Council : I Sacrificed Them

Because I dislike viewing the events of the RPG from a 'meta-game' perspective. This is exactly what my Shepard would of done regardless, because while Paragons would of ended up with decidedly more substance than the 'new' Council, I didn't know this at the time and my Shepard certainly didn't know either, it was simply the best choice I thought I could make. I didn't want wasted firepower defending a vessel that while 'politically' important wouldn't mean a thing if Sovereign isn't taken down. I needed every ship to concentrate on taking that monster down before we were all dust in the wind. This wasn't a matter of wanting human dominance (that inevitably happened, which kind of pissed me off, because I wished for a dialogue option to recommend that the Council function as it did before, without any sort of human-led representation), this was simply the best decision I could make. Five lives for trillions.

Human Councilor: Anderson
Because fuck Udina.

The Collector Base : Destroyed It

A combination of a quick weigh-in of the options combined with some serious emotions regarding Cerberus (because, again, Sole Survivor, Akuze...) , my Shepard took the choice to destroy the Collector Base and ran with it. She considered the ability to turn people into genetic slushies to be exactly the opposite of what she wanted The Illusive Man to have, and that staying on the 'Reaper technological railway' was exactly the opposite of where they wanted to go.

Rachni Queen :

Saved it (her?), because the idea of wiping out an entire species simply for existing left a bad taste in my Shepard's mouth. Again, not from any sort of meta-game experience, but that simply being what my Shepard would of done regardless.

Urdnot Wrex :
Saved him. Because my Shepard saw no real point in killing him. Wrex was proven to be a great ally from the events to Virmire, and if she had to put Wrex down, she would, though she didn't see the real purpose in not even attempting to talk him down and convince him that the krogan in the facility were puppets to Saren's will and nothing more.

Virmire : Killed Kaidan, although for some reason I can't really justify it much over killing Ashley. I just didn't like him too much. Figures.

Casulties: Urdnot Grunt is dead, no one else. Dead through a miscalculation in my Shepard's plans and her choice to send Grunt in as the distraction team leader (based on criteria in that he is a krogan, large, violent and loud, thus very distracting), leading to a fatal gut-shot (which I really never understand seeing as a shot to the gut to Grunt would heal in seconds). I'm wondering what the implications with regards to how this will affect krogan relations.

Genophage Data: Kept it. While, in the end, my Shepard believed that the genophage was the right thing, destroying it would serve no purpose, and that at the least, it could be kept for study and at most, if the (incredibly low) possibility of Wrex bringing the krogans into line and less focused on the whole 'galactic domination' thing, that they could be responsible enough for the cure to be distributed.

Heretics:
Kept them. Despite the inherent moral quandries that faced my Shepard in regards to brain-washing things (which in turn evoked memories of Mindoir), she rationalized that this was less brainwashing than it was cleaning up a glitch, and that destroying the station would merely mean that the survivors would merely be incredibly angry, perhaps initiating a civil war between the heretic geth and the true geth.

Samara/Morinth: I chose Samara, simply because that's the only choice that makes sense. Who in god's name would choose the psychopathic sex vampire serial killer over the Justicar? At least from a roleplaying perspective (even though Reave is infinitely more useful than Dominate), even Renegades should realize that this is a pretty easy decision in regards to saving Samara.

Tali's Trial: I admit it. I took the easy way out, I could of rallied the crowd with Veetor and Reegar still alive, but the awesomeness of Shepard's speech (both of them) just can't be denied.

Love Interest(s): I rather disliked the options that were avaliable to Shepard. Kaidan (who I warmed up to, although still didn't want to romance) and Liara, who I hated for being nothing but fanservice and boringness. I hooked up with Garrus for ME2, and honestly, I don't regret it. At all. Garrus is awesomeness incarnate, and the romance line itself is absolutely hysterically adorable.

Name: Anthony Shepard.

Gender: Male. I am a male. I also felt Jennefer Hale's voice was not as dramatic as Meer's voice in some dialogue in ME2.

Pre-service history: Spacer. My own family is military and saw the spacer background as the most appealing. His spacer background would also give his leadership abilities and facilitate his movement up the ranks.

class: Adept/Bastion with assault rifle training in ME1 and Adept/Nemesis with warp ammo and shotgun training in ME2. I emphasize less on combat and more on crowd control and debuffing enemies. I also liked the idea of my Shepard growing up close to his parents but as a detached loner to everyone else as a result of being a gifted biotic due to the hate and fear human biotics receive. Something that would echo in Sha'ira's 'gift of words.' That being "proud, solitary, alone."

Military history: War Hero. I wanted my Shepard to start as a loyal servant of the Alliance and one of their most decorated officers, a natural leader and powerful biotic capable of holding his own against legions of enemies but slowly progress into a more independent Spectre concerned only with galactic stability and far more disillusioned at the Alliance, even wishing Cerberus had recruited him earlier after seeing what the only world he knew did to him.

Morality: Full paragon and about 10 percent renegade in the first Mass Effect. Full paragon and half renegade in Mass Effect 2 as I wanted to reflect a more 'hardened' and disillusioned hero. Also to reflect the darker tones of the second story.

Rachni: Released the queen. I listened to the queen's talk of how the rachni were being forced into war and realized that they were not naturally aggressive and should be allowed to live again.

Virmire: I go out of my way for my team and thus helped recover Wrex's family armor and was able to convince him to join me against Saren. I sent Ashley with Kirrahe's teams and had Kaidan arm the nuke. Kaidan's team was not strong enough to hold off the geth reinforcements so I went to save him at the cost of my love interest. I did not want to pursue any romances until the second Mass Effect and felt the story of the first Mass Effect needed a low point. With my Shepard being a hero everywhere, he had never faced the obstacle of putting aside personal feelings for the sake of the mission. Sacrificing a love interest would add to his character as such a person.

Citadel council: I ordered the fifth fleet to save the Destiny Ascension and the remnants of the Citadel fleet. The cost would have been too high to let the council die and I reasoned that the geth would have had to engage the Fifth fleet anyway so it was best to deal with them first, then concentrate on Sovereign.

Councilor: Anderson out of a personal debt for helping my Shepard get to Ilos.

Genophage: At first, I agreed with Mordin that the modification to the Genophage was necessary. A krogan expansion without a unified and stable government would be a threat to galactic stability. The modified genophage being only altering fertility rates was able to convince me as well. However, after seeing Wrex's plans to unify the krogan and bring a more stable government, I began to see the krogan as ready to be cured. After storming Weyrloc's base and seeing the experiments, I realized that the krogan needed to be cured. I also had Mordin spare Maelon as he may be of use in developing a cure later.

Geth heretics: At first I saw an opportunity to destroy the heretics and rid the terminus and council governments of a common enemy in addition to stopping the virus from spreading to the original geth but after Legion mentioned rewrite as possible, I felt that to be a better choice as they would be open to negotiating a peace with the organic governments by uniting against the Old Machines.

Tali's trial: I did not reveal the evidence at the cost of Tali being exiled. I felt the evidence would be too volatile to the already fractured admiralty and I did not want to betray one of the few who stood by my Shepard when others turn their back. Given that I spoke with the admirals, I urged them to not go to war and unite against the Reapers. I had enough paragon to exonerate tali with the speech but I thought it was not consistent with the development of Tali's character, progressing from a loyal servant of the Migrant fleet to an independent and disillusioned quarian more concerned with galactic stability than her people with exile being the final contributing factor. I am also curious to see how it will play into Mass Effect 3 with the retaking of Rannoch.

Collector base: The Illusive Man is only concerned with one thing: advancing the human race and nothing more. It is evident in ME: Ascension and throughout his willingness to risk Shepard's crew. He will not use the technology of the Collectors against the Reapers which becomes clear during the debriefing.

Romance: Tali'Zorah. I liked how my Shepard's relationship with Tali progresses from one who rescues another, to a mentor and student, and to a romance. I also wanted to hold romance until the second act where everything is dark but the hero finds a light in a romance during the act inspiring the hero to go on.

Character Background : Spacer
I like spaceships and military family fits my Shepard

Military Background
: Ruthless
The ohter choices don't really appeal to my and my charaters in every game with choices are ruthless

class : Soldier
While I'm always a Mage in classic RPG's, because magic>sword, in ME I became a Soldier, cuz guns>magic>sword and playing as a Soldier fits my Shephard

Gender
: Male
The choice of genders in RPG's depends of two things for me
1. which gender fits the game the most (male)
2. Can I make a female character that looks good (not really)

Morality : Renegade
It fits my Shephard the best (a Ruthless 100 % Paragon?), I'm always evil in games, except in DA: O, but that was only to get approval points from Leliana.

The Council : Dead as dead can be
I'm not wasting lifes of Human soldiers (I'm pro-Human btw, not alien hating pro-Human, but Humans first pro Human) to save some stupid Aliens who isnsulted me and annoyed me. I hate the new one too (alien loving Paragons for a renegade choice, WTF Bioware?) "You always put Human interests first" OTHERWISE YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A ALL-HUMAN COUNCIL AND WHY DO YOU CARE? YOU'RE HUMAN AND IT'S NOT LIKE THE OLD COUNCIL WASN'T PUTTING THEIR INTERESTS FIRST! But I think I can convince them faster then the old Council

The Collector Base
: Kept it
I'm staying with Cerberus so TiM can have it and blowing up so much tech? I don't think so.

Rachni
Queen : Killed it, i'm not taking any risks with the Rachni, they're too dangerous and it gave me the possibilty to see to our favorite Councilor:
Councilor: Do you enjoy genocide, Shepard?
Shep: It depends on the species, Turian
C: You will addres the council properly!
Shep: Whooops!

Urdnot Wrex : Alive, I understand his feelings and he's my bro.

Virmire : Kaidan, killing him was doing a favor to the Galaxy, he was too boring and useless to me, but i wish there was an option to leave them both behind.

Casulties
: Kaidan & Tali Tali died in the vents because she lost her loyalty after I lallowed Legion to transfer the data, never liked her anyway

Genophage
Data : Deleted,
Krogan are too dangerous too cure.

Heretics : Rewrite
Geth as an ally is a good idea
Samara/Morinth :
Samara, why was choosing Morinth even an option? For the lulz?
Love Interest(s) :
Ashley in the first game, I'm not really into the nerdy types.
Miranda: I like her personality and her body is a nice bonus. I'm planning to stay loyal to Miranda

Aldos Shepard

Character Background: Earthborn
Shepard had to start somewhere, the filth, poverty and crime lead him to the military and he has never looked back.

Gender: Male
I get a better grasp of a character who is my own gender.

Military Background: Ruthless
Shepard led the assault on Torfan and pushed forward despite the casualties. Only a man like Shepard could have won the day. It sealed his reputation among the Alliance brass that Shepard is a man who can get things done, no matter the consequences. Yet despite his reputation from Torfan, Shepard regrets the loss of so many soldiers under his command to this day.

Renegon:
Shepard has been described as ruthless and is one who prefers to talk with his gun or fists. Yet on some occasions he has shown forgiveness or taken the more difficult route to secure one's loyalty. Yet he will always put the mission first.

Wrex: Survived.
The Krogan have earned Shepard's respect, and while initially outraged at Wrex's refusal to fall in line, Shepard was able to see it from Wrex's point of view, and calm him down.

Virmire:
Kaidan Alenko sacrificed himself in order to detonate the nuke. Shepard choose to save Ashley and the Salarian STG unit, yet still believes he could have done better that day.

Council:
In a move unusual for Shepard, he urged Hackett to try to save the Destiny Ascension if possible. Shepard is pro-humanity, yet he does not consider the Systems Alliance strong, willing, or disciplined enough to rule alone. He still hates the council however.

Rachni:
Killed. Better to take no chances with giant space bugs. And the clones some Cerberus fools made are still wandering around anyway.

New Councilor:

Anderson. Shepard initially liked Udina's attitude towards the council, but after he left Shepard in the cold and locked down his ship, Anderson got his vote.

Genophage: Data saved.
Shepard believes the Krogan could be a very valuable ally, and knows that data could be very useful to the right people.

Garrus: Betrayal avenged.
Shepard has always liked Garrus' attitude and working with Garrus changed his previously negative opinion of turians. He wasn't going to try to talk Garrus out of killing Sidonis, because Shepard would have done the same.

Samara: Shepard doesn't trust Samara, as she must have problems with Shepard's methods. Yet an Ardat-Yakshi who already tried to kill him hardly had the potential to be a more reliable ally.

Tali's treason: Shepard has never quite understood the Quarians, and considers them rather incompetent. He was visibly annoyed when he got dragged into being a lawyer. The reason he brought Tali to the floatilla was to ensure she wasn't distracted, so he wasn't going to go against her pleas to not turn in the data. So Shepard gave a brutal speech about the Admiralty Board's political BS, (having enough renegade points can be a very nice thing), and surprisingly Tali wasn't exiled. He wished them good luck against the Geth, and went back to the mission at hand.

Geth Heretics: Destroyed
Shepard only considers
Legion an ally of convenience, and has no love for geth. He would
gladly lead a campaign against them once the greater threat is dealt
with.

Normandy SR2: Fully upgraded

The more firepower and armor protection Shepard can jam onto that thing the better.

Liara:
While Shepard thinks Liara has gone a bit soft in the head, she clearly has a thing for him so he did her a favor and told her to kill her secretary.

Collector Base:
Who is TIM? Shepard doesn't really know, but actually believes a bit in Cerberus's mission. That technology can be used, and as long as none of Cerberus' idiot scientists try to create another reaper, Shepard thinks he made the right choice.

This is the current Shepard I'm working on. Most of the other ones are more... Compassionate.

Character Background
: Spacer
I did not want an emotionally scared Shepard and the only the spacer background granted me this. Having patriotic alliance parents also gave a boost to his image and ambition. It is also the "coldest" upbringing, with both parents probably working most of the time.

Military Background : War Hero
This grants my Shepard extra recognition, fame and patriotism, further improving on his future ambition of greatness.

class : Sentinel
My Shepard is a VERY resourceful character and the Sentinel class seemed to mirror this resourcefulness. Being a soldier, tech and a biotic must have required a lot of training and mental strength. Needless to say he is a caster sentinel, he is not the type to risk getting up-close. I also gave him dominate as a special power, just for the role playing potencial of being able to control another persons mind at any given time.

Gender : Male
Because being cold, emotionless and extremely calculative just seemed like more of a male thing.

Morality : Renegade (paragon-bar max)
I paragon myself through most of the dialogue because my Shepard works by one big cost/benefit analysis of how to seize power of as much of the galaxy as he can. Being a jerk to potencial allies is not a good tactic by this analysis. But deep down inside he could not care less about them and some of his actions are renegade (if they further his cause). Therefore I think it would be wrong to call him anything but a renegade.

The Council : Left them to die
This was a hard one, but Shepard wishes to rule the galaxy and thus the old galactic rule hinders his cause. It is a hard to radically change cosmos, but if you leave it to chaos a new world order can be built. Plus this makes the alliance the leading force in the galaxy, when Shepard takes over the alliance, he and his allies will be able to seize galactic power easily.

The Collector Base : Kept it
Unprecedented technology exclusively for humaniy! Yes, sir! They'll be able to fight the reapers and remain the superior technological force in the galaxy for decades!

Rachni Queen : This is the only time I strayed from the path of allies. The rachni queen was just TOO alien... The race too expansive, too fast to reproduce, too dangerous. The risk of this decision backfiring later is too great. She had to go.

Urdnot Wrex : He's basically going to become the king of the krogan. A race so powerful that the only way to deal with them was to make them infertile. Would you rather by an enemy or ally of this race?

Virmire : Killed Ashley. Hard decision. Kaidan is intelligent and resouceful, but boring and a whiner. Ashley is not a whiner, but she's got some xenophobic tendencies and is not affraid of airing her opinions. I ended up killing Ashley for the first time ever, just because Kaidan has more officer potencial, making him a more valueable asset.

Casulties : Ashley. No one else, no squad members and no normandy crew dies. Loosing men would scar Shepards image of flawless immortality and heroism.

Genophage Data : Destroyed it. A new rapid expansion or rebellion would block the rise of humanity.

Heretics : Brainwashed them. The non-heretics seem to be incredibly pacifistic and having twice as many of them in the battle against the reapers is always good.

Samara/Morinth : Killing Samara is wrong on all levels. Plus it's a big risk, if they Asari found out you killed one of their most legendery justicars, it would probably ruin your relations.

Love Interest(s) : Miranda. She is good-looking and genetically modified = perfect genes for the future generation. The word "love" does not exist in his vocabulary, the word "pretend", however... He even made it through all her whining and still kept an understanding expression on his face. It was hard.

Background: Earthborn
It's a pretty cool planet, what can I say?

Military Background: Ruthless
The other options just seemed too cliche. And really, getting the job done is what counts. The more people you can help, the better -- but sometimes you have to concentrate on the greater good.

Gender: Female
Well, I'm female. I always have a hard time playing as a guy. In most shooters (Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, you know what I mean) I have to play as one, so if I can be a chick, I will.

class: Vanguard
Not really for the close combat aspect -- I guess that makes me a pretty bad vanguard for hanging out at mid-range with my submachine gun -- but because I wanted biotics and combat. I like shooting. It's hard for me to play as an adept or sentinel.

Morality: Paragon
I'm pretty nice in video games. I really don't know how to put it. Not above forfeiting for the greater good, though. I had the paragon bar almost maxed out, renegade had like two bars.

Virmire: Sorry, Ash.
I liked Ashley, really, I did. At first i didn't because I thought she was one of those I'm-a-tough-chick-look-at-me types. But she was pretty cool. Some people have been calling her racist, which I disagree with. Just because she looks out more for humanity doesn't mean she thinks we're genetically superior. Also, Kaidan was my love interest. So...yeah. Sorry, chief.

Wrex: Talked him out of it, duh. Wrex is way too cool.

Rachni: I let the queen go
I know, I know, I'm a naive little child. But her apology seemed genuine, and I felt like Bioware would reward you for such a leap of faith.

Council: Saved those lousy bastards.
I figured that this whole time humanity's been trying to prove that we can sit at the big kids' table, really, we can -- so I saved the Council. Doesn't mean I wouldn't choose humanity over them some other time, though.

Cerberus Opinion: Meh.
My character's a paragon, but I didn't hate Cerberus like the paragon options said. Hell, everyone else has an organization like it. Not sure I'd ditch the Alliance for them, but Cerberus does get the job done.

Genophage: Kept the information.
I'm really not sure what my opinion on the genophage is. On one hand, I don't want krogan overrunning the galaxy. Sorry. But on the other, they can make their own choices. As Robert Heinlein said, "There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him." Of course, put into context, the rest of the galaxy shouldn't decide what's best for the krogan. They can do that themselves. And if they want to take over the galaxy, then...ah...nuke 'em? Unless you can't. Then I guess the genophage is okay.

Geth: Re-wrote the heretics.
Nnnnnghhhh. Tough decision. But they're machines, so...

Collector Base: Kept it
It's technology. Why wouldn't you want to save it? The Reapers are advanced enough as it is, and too much is at stake to go the whole I-won't-sacrifice-the-soul-of-our-species route. Everyone's been using the Mass Relays and Prothean/Reaper artifacts, right? Why is this different? The Reapers aren't gonna wait for us to build good enough tech. Still, though...I know handing it over to Cerberus is gonna bite me in the ass.

Love Interest: For this playthrough, Kaidan. Mwuah mwuah mwuah. But my renegade Shepard is all over Garrus.

Character Background : Spacer- Wanted to hear from shep's parents during the game.

Military Background : War Hero - I wanted Shepard to be as paragon as possible, so saving people and holding the line fit perfectly.

class : Vanguard- Using biotics to get enemies out of cover and using charge to draw fire away from my squad

Gender : Male - because I'm male.

Morality : Paragon- because I'm a nice guy. I do occasionally act like a renegade, like killing the racist turian in Thane's loyalty mission

The Council : Saved because I'm a paragon and that's what I do. Plus the asari councilor was pretty hot.

Human Representative: Anderson because I hate Udina

The Collector Base : Saved, the technology would be useful and we don't have time to develop new technology.

Rachni Queen : Spared, I need as many allies as possible.

Wrex : I paragon'd him to calm him down

Virmire : Saved Kaidan, because Ashley was useless and I needed to make sure the nuke went off.

Genophage Data : Kept it so I can bribe the krogan to join me

Heretics : Rewrote - I need more legions.

Samara/Morinth : I saved Samara, because she is a powerful biotic, and I want her to be an LI for ME3.

L.I. : Liara

Tali's Trial : Used the paragon option that shows what the trial really means

Quarian/Geth War : Promoted peace, because I'm a paragon

Cerberus Opinion: Can't be trusted, but could be useful.

Character Background:  Earthborn.
My Shepard is Earthborn for a couple of reasons. First of all, I'm Earthborn. Secondly, the majority of humans in the galaxy are Earthborn, so it's the most likely origin. Finally, it fits with the hard-line Shepard that I roll with.

Military Background:  War Hero.
Basically in keeping with what my Shepard is like these days. Exceptionally skilled, willing to make personal sacrifices, never giving up in the face of insurmountable odds. Also gives some prestige to the background.

class:  Soldier.
In ME1, this was probably the best class for me, because I come from a pretty shooter heavy background. It also meant that I could do all the killing while my squaddies put all their points into supporting me. Aside from this, I'm sick of the ludicrous number of biotics in the MEverse, so those three classes were out. Tech doesn't really interest me, so Soldier it is. It also irks me when my character pulls out a weapon s/he can't actually use in a cutscene (i.e. an adept wielding an AR), so this happens far less as a perk.

Gender:  Male.
I'm male, easy choice. I never really understood why people insist that Hale did a much better job with Shepard in ME1, I thought Meer was just as good/better. Oh well. I run a secondary FemShep, but my main is always Male.

Morality:  Renagon. Decisions are made at approximately a 3 Renegade : 2 Paragon ratio. My shepard gets the job done at any cost, but isn't afraid to do extra work if it's going to make the situation work out better for people. Helping people out is what I do, not just saving the galaxy. I'm respectful and friendly to people who treat me well, and I'm aggressive and forceful to people who try to mess with me or my crew. I make pragmatic rather than idealistic decisions, but I'm not a genocidal warmongerer. I try to avoid metagaming where possible.

The Council:  I let the council die.
At this point, my only concern was to ensure that the Reapers did not return. If Sovereign succeeded because we threw away ships trying to save an impotent political body trapped on-board ship that is useless in the current fight (too close to be effective, busy trying to retreat with the council), no amount of interspecies goodwill is going to save the collective populations of the galaxy from extinction. No risks can be taken, so Shepard told them to leave the council and concentrate on Sovereign.

The Collector Base
:  I kept the collector base.
I'm actually really angry with this "moral choice", because it's totally full of crap. It's an incredibly lame example of a false-dichotomy - either destroy the collector base, or give it to Cerberus. Why, exactly? I want to turn it over to the Geth, or if I can't do that the Alliance, or if I can't do that, the council. Cerberus is about #27 on my list of people I want to give it to, just behind Adolf Hitler. The SR2 is the only ship in the galaxy that can traverse the relay, so I can get whoever I damn well want onto the base. The IFF was a specific piece of Reaper Tech, not a code. I'm the only person with access.

But since the choice was the stupidly binary Tim or Nobody, I gave it to Cerberus rather than have it lost forever. The Reapers are still coming, and it's better that somebody has some advantages over them than nobody does, even if they might not use the tech wisely after the Reapers have been dealt with. But for now, there are bigger concerns than racism.

Rachni Queen:  I let her live.
This was one of the few occasions when I did metagame somewhat. I know Bioware isn't going to punish paragon players for not stooping to genocide. I want to gather as many allies as I can, so this was the natural option.

Urdnot Wrex:  Talked him down with family armor option.
Wrex and Garrus were my homeboys in ME1. I took them nearly everywhere, so we were best buds by this stage. Couldn't let him go if I had another option. Him turning out to be King of the Krogan in ME2 was just icing on the cake. More allies, mmmnnn...

Virmire:  Let Ashley die. She was a less useful character, and she was a bit too xenophobic for my tastes. She seemed eager to take the fall on this one, and it let her go out in a blaze of glory instead of the inevitable character derailment we get for whoever lives in ME2.

Genophage Data:  Kept it. It can always be destroyed later, there's no need to decide what to do with it now. I'll give it to Wrex if I have a chance, otherwise it's going down the toilet. I'm not letting the Krogan come back unless I have a guarantee that they will be changed for the better this time around, with a leader I can trust.

Heretic Geth:  Rewrote 'em. I ended up siding with the Geth in ME2 far more than I expected too, because Legion was awesome. They also appear to be the most competent race in the galaxy, because they don't have their heads up their asses about the Reaper threat. I trust machines far more than I trust organics, so I let them have the station.

Samara/Morinth:  Killed Morinth, although usually I don't have enough points to step in and intervene. Morinth was a bit too much of a loose cannon for my tastes, and I gained nothing over Samara by choosing Morinth in her stead. Some are worried about Samara turning on you if you're renegade, but frankly, I can take her by myself if it comes to that.

Love Interest(s):  Miranda. Nobody in ME1. Flirted a bit with Kelly but nothing serious. Just enough to get her to feed my damn fish. Miranda is hot, smart, extremely useful on higher difficulties, and Australian (like me ^_^).

Character Background : Colonist
I liked the idea of Shepard being primarily tied to the colonisation effort, as opposed to Earth or the military. Also, I picked Sole Survivor, and thought it made thematic sense to have a character whose whole life is about recovering from and dealing with tragic loss, not once but twice.

Military Background : Sole Survivor
War Hero seemed cliched, and Ruthless seemed unlikable. Sole Survivor, on the other hand, screams absolute badass. While all around you die, Shepard lives. For the second time, in the case of my character.

class : Infiltrator
Sniper rifles. That is all.

Gender : Male
Romance options primarily. I thought Liara more interesting than Kaiden or Ash, and while I have no problem with same sex relationships in ME, I was uninterested in playing it out. Conversely, I will likely play a Female Shepard in the future to see the Thane romance.

Morality : Paragade
Primarily paragon, because Shepard is essentially the biggest hero in the galaxy and should reflect that in the way he acts, while at the same time not being the concussed whiner that pure Paragon is. If someone is obviously about to try and kill you no matter what you say, I say hit first, or if someone betrays you, let them know how angry you are. Also, most major paragon choices seemed to make the most sense as well as being the most moral, eg if I'm fighting Saren and the Geth, mabe the Rachni could make good allies.

The Council : I Saved Them
10,000 crew on the Destiny Ascension, along with the core of Galactic civilisation. I liked that the Alliance was given a chance to prove their committment to the Galactic community, as well as their strength. I of course accepted Spectre status in ME2.

The Collector Base : Destroyed It.
The Illusive Man could not be trusted with the base and it's technology. As simple as that.

Rachni Queen : Saved It
Exterminating an entire self aware species is a big no no, especially when you might need allies later on.

Urdnot Wrex : Saved Him
My favorite ME character, who was expressing legitimate concerns over the future of his people. I don't see why you WOULD kill him if given the choice.

Virmire : Let Ash Die
Character wise, Kaiden was closer to my Shepard's views about aliens and embracing Galactic culture, as well as being someone he could talk to about the mission and the burden of command. Basically a Bromance. Role-playing wise, it always make sense to me to send Kaiden with the bomb and Ash with the salarians, as Kaiden has advanced technical skills as a Sentinel and Ash is a frontline Soldier. When you are forced to choose who to save you can either go to the towers to save Ash, or go back and save Kaiden as well as make sure the Geth don't defuse the bomb. Thus, it seems logical from a story and mission perspective to go back to the bomb.

Casulties : Ashley Williams and Fist, killed by Wrex. Everyone else it is possible to save/not kill is alive, including Vido and Elnora.

Genophage Data : Kept It.
The genophage was an atrocity, as simple as that. It destroyed Krogan culture and prevented any chance they had of changing their ways, because it destroyed all hope for an entire species. Furthermore, all the STG projections are wrong because a) they are incomplete (Mordin never guessed that the genophage would drive the Krogan to seek Salarian help, and acknowledges that there is too much data to accurately predict what they would do), and B) they're based upon a fragmented Krogan population with a leadership that harbor dreams of Galactic conquest, the opposite of the sort of social structure Wrex and his clan are building.

Heretics : Rewrote Them.
While morally suspect, it's preferable to death, which is the only alternative. A mitigating factor is that it freed them from Reaper subjugation, which would have seen them turned into slaves like the Keepers or the Collectors. From a practical standpoint it makes sense since it strengthens the Geth as a whole, who I envision being a key part in any plan to resist the Reapers. Also, encouraged the Quarians to make peace. The Geth could wipe them out, and they don't even use the planets the Quarians want so badly. Co-existence is possible and preferable.

Samara/Morinth : Samara, no question. Morinth is a psychopathic sexual predator and serial killer, who a) can't be trusted, and B) needs to be stopped.

Love Interest(s) : Liara T'Soni.
Although I've explored all female romances except Ash, and though all were interesting, Liara is the "canon" LI for my Shepard. History from ME coupled with everything she did to bring Shepard back, as well as an interesting turn for the character with the Shadow Broker stuff means that she's the one I find the most compelling, even if I though the Liara romance options in ME2 were pitiful.

The following applies to the one and only Shepard I created for the original Mass Effect and later imported to Mass Effect 2. I have no other Shepards. As an additional note, these explanations only apply to my initial ME 1 and ME 2 playthroughs:

Character Background: Earthborn
While I don't identify with Shepard on a personal level (i.e. I don't try to convince myself that I'm that character), I wanted to at least have some sense of commonality with her. So I chose a background that placed her on Earth. I inferred that she was likely in and out of foster care throughout her early childhood, only to wind up on the streets when she was older. Something obviously drove her to escape that life. It seemed interesting, and vaguely logical, that she would view the military as a reasonable alternative to winding up used and/or dead on the streets. Overall, I liked the sense of progression implied by this background.

Military Background: Sole Survivor
Given that the adventure was only just beginning with Mass Effect, I felt it would have been awkward to award the title of War Hero to Shepard out of the gate. More specifically, it seemed to bring too much of a conclusion to her personal story. The "Ruthless" alternative didn't make any sense given the inferences I made from the background I chose (also see Morality below).

class: Soldier
This was really the only class that appealed to me. I viewed Shepard the soldier as the least augmented and therefore most human of the available choices.

Gender: Female

Morality: Paragon most of the time, Renegade when reasonable
My brother-in-law is a medic in a special forces unit. He indicated that most candidates who make the cut tend to be in their mid-to-late 20s or early 30s. When it comes to the special forces, the military wants mature, stable human beings. Arrogant, self absorbed cowboys who behave like they either posses or are the answer to every problem tend to last for only a few weeks.

"Rough and ready" refers to a state of mind, one of sacrifice. If you can't communicate well, you're gone. If you're a slob, you're gone. If you're rebellious and/or emotionally unstable, you're gone. If you're a walking, talking threat to the morale of everyone around you, you're gone. If you're just a fool looking for an ego trip, you're gone.

Candidates have to prove that they're trainable, and then they have to prove that they have what it takes. Younger special forces candidates tend have a more difficult time simply proving that they're trainable. My brother-in-law observed that almost everyone under the age of 25 was out of his barracks by the end of boot camp.

This was my basis for understanding Commander Jane Shepard throughout Mass Effect. She's a highly disciplined, professional soldier.

The Council: Saved
One of Sovereign's objectives was to destroy or at least destabilize the government. Shepard's duty was to ensure that the reaper didn't achieve any of its objectives. I'll admit, I was tempted to abandon the council.

The Collector Base: Destroyed
Whether it would have been strategically advantageous to keep the base, as the ever trustworthy Illusive Man reasoned, was and remains a matter of speculation. I don't just want to see the reapers defeated, I want Shepard to purge every last remnant of their presence from known space. May their legacy live on in memory only.

My Shepard doesn't owe Cerberus anything. At most, she owes the Illusive Man 50 slugs fired at point blank range, 1 for each Marine who died on Akuze. To make her sound an awful lot like Garrus: "I don't care if the Illusive Man was directly responsible for their deaths. It was his organization that orchestrated the attack. That's a good enough reason for me."

Personally, I think the Illusive Man was a cool character. His private security would have to peel my Shepard off his jugular vein if the two ever wound up in the same room together.

Rachni Queen: Saved
My initial reaction was to kill rather than release the queen. After questioning her, I gambled that her sentiments were genuine and opted to set her free.

Urdnot Wrex: Saved
Wrex needed to know that he was doing the right thing by helping Shepard. Killing Wrex without at least making an effort to address his concerns would have only served to stoke my Shepard's nonexistent ego. Talking Wrex down felt like the only natural option.

Virmire Survivor: Williams
Williams was tasked to guard the bomb. When the geth arrived, I returned Shepard to the bomb site.

Casualties: Kaiden, Tali, and Miranda

Genophage Data: Kept it, but I'm not so sure it matters
The Krogan were adapting to the Genophage, according to Mordin. The Genophage is evidently a temporary solution that requires routine modification. I think the Turians and Salarians are merely delaying the inevitable at this point. I kept the data in the off chance that it might matter (at all) in the long run.

Heretics: Rewritten
This decision felt very similar to the choice to either kill or free the Rachni queen. The distinction being that the Rachni queen couldn't redeem her "lost" children on Noveria, whereas Legion seemed certain that the heretics were redeemable. So I gambled again and opted to let Legion rewrite the heretics. In this case, my motive was to gain a new ally.

Samara/Morinth: Samara
Morinth freaked me out way more than Samara ever could. The last thing Shepard needs is a bloodthirsty Asari psychopath aboard the Normandy. I happily allowed Samara to mop the floor with her daughter.

Love Interest(s): None
Honestly, I'm genuinely not interested. It's not my thing.

Character Background : Spacer
Just seemed to make sense for him to be very experienced with space travel and that kind of environment.

Military Background : War Hero
Self explanatory I think

class : Soldier + Infiltrator
In Mass Effect 1 I chose soldier because it seemed to be the most simple. When I imported to Mass Effect 2 I became infiltrator because the improved sniper mechanics looked good.

Gender : Male
I'm male

Morality : Paragon
It's just fun to be the hero

The Council : I Saved Them
I wanted humans to earn their place in the galaxy, not take it by force.

The Collector Base : Blew it up.
To be honest, I'm not sure why myself. Maybe I just like explosions.

Rachni Queen : Saved it.
I don't do genocide

Urdnot Wrex : Kept him alive.
Why? Because he's awesome.

Virmire : Killed Ashley.
Tough choice but I liked Kaidan just a little more.

Casulties : Just Ashley.
I tried to keep as many npcs alive as possible, to see if they're in ME3

Genophage Data : Told Mordin to keep it, just in case.
Still unsure so I took the neutral path.

Heretics : Rewrote them.
No need to destroy potential allies.

Samara/Morinth : I chose Samara.
Do I have to explain?

Love Interest(s) : Liara T'Soni (Faithful in ME2)
I could write a lot about why I chose Liara but I'll just give the short version; I think she has the best personality and she seems to genuinely love Shepard more than any other LI.

Character Background:Spacer.

I liked the innocent looking nature of the Spacer and mostly because it was the only Origin that had family.

Military Background: Sole Survivor.

I picked this because it seemed to be the most traumatic background that was available.

class: Soldier.

I've always picked a heavy hitter class in nearly every RPG I have played so the Soldier seem natural to me.

Gender: Male.

Well simply because I'm a male.

Morality: Paragon.

I've always played the hero and simply because being a dick to people doesn't seem very fun to me.

The Council: Alive.

It always pays to have other races as allies.

The Rachni Queen: Released.

There is never a reason to commit extinction.

Feros: All colonists survived, let Shiala live and convinced Jeong with Paragon option.

No reason to kill when there is an alternative and let Shiala live because she wanted to make amends.

Noveria: Convinced Lorik Quinn to testify and created a cure for the doctor in Peak 13.

Anoleis was corrupt and needed to be removed and there's no reason to let people die when there is a cure.

Virmire: Convinced Wrex that it was better to fight Saren than become his slave and left Kaiden Alenko behind.

Wrex fought with me against Saren so it was better to try and convince him than simply gun him down and left Kaiden behind because he didn't seem to have much family or anyone really close to him.

Love Interest: No one might have romanced Tali if she was available in ME1 but i'm not quite sure because she is viewed as a child in the eyes of her people. Although I did eventally romance her in ME2.

Human Councilman: Captain David Anderson.

Picked him because I always liked him and also because Udina was as trustworthy as a snake.

Squadmates sidemissions: Helped Wrex get his armour back,Gave Tali the Geth data and tried to arrest Doctor Saleon/Heart and tried to make Garrus a Paragon.

Asteroid X57:Let Balak go to save the scientists.

No point in sacrificing innocents for justice and besides he has the both the Alliance and the Council races after him.

Casulties ME1 : Kaiden and Fist.

Kaiden's death couldn't be avoided and Fist was scum so I let Wrex finish his job.

Reinstated as a SpecTRE and let Captain Baily reinstate my Citadel Pass.

No point in letting Nihlus die for nothing and having the Council's resources at my disposal is always useful.

Gave Cerberus data to the Alliance.

Cerberus might have brought Shepard back but that doesn't excuse their past actions they can't be trusted.

Loyalty Missons:

Tali: I used the Paragon option originally but then decided to see what the rally option does and seeing that Veetor gets better as a result I decided to use that and promoted peace with Geth.

Mordin: Let Maelon go and saved the Genophage data because Genocide is a big no no in my eyes and I would have the help of the Krogan as a result.

Jacob: Saved the woman at the beach and arrested Jacob's father.

Miranda: Convinced Miranda to spare Niket and made her speak with her sister.

Zaeed: Saved the factory workers and used the Paragon option to gain his Loyalty.

Kasumi: Kept the Graybox.

Garrus: Spared Harkin, the Krogan bodyguards and Sidonis.

Grunt: CAINed the Thresher Maw.

Jack: Spared Aresh.

Thane: Gave Mouse 3000 credits to go to Earth, Convinced the Stockboy with a Paragon option, Told Kelham that I was Spectre, Used the interupt to free Talid and convinced Bailiy to give Kolyat community service.

Samara: Used the three Paragon choices in the nightclub, Used the interupt on the victims mother and picked Samara.

Legion: Rewrote the Heretics.

Jack/Miranda and Tali/Legion confrontations used the Paragon option in both.

Collector Base: Destroyed.

Like I said before Cerberus cannot be trusted and like Soverign said if we use the Reaper tech we follow the path that they have laid.

Casulties: No man left behind.
