Katrina Shepard (Roleplay)
Character Background : ColonistThis one was rather easy, as I liked the idea of Shepard coming from such a background, it put some real emotional meat on my Shepard's past, and seemed like the most interesting choice between 'Earth gangster' and 'upstanding spacer kid'.
Military Background : Sole SurvivorFor me, it was a toss up between Sole Survivor and Ruthless. They both project different images in regards from my chosen Character Background, Sole Survivor implying an incredibly tragic life whereas Ruthless gave a 'grew up anti-social with little regard to human life and it's value' that could of been interesting (and a card I played later on). I went with Sole Survivor because it, again, was the most emotionally charged out of all them, and playing a character who's gone through disaster through disaster and tragedy through tragedy was interesting, I thought.
Player class : VanguardVanguard was by far the easiest decision I made in regards to character creation. Soldier bored me, as I was playing an RPG, not a shooter, and I wanted that healthy mix of powers and combat that the Vanguard delivered on, especially with how awesome shotguns were in the game (not that I knew at the time), I've always considered the Vanguard to flat-out be the coolest class of them all, if only for it's style of combat that would later be emphasized with the glory that is Charge.
Gender: FemaleMy main Shepard is a female, simply because I almost always choose the female when given the choice. Not because of some retarded reason like 'lol i haz something 2 lok at when im playin teh gaem' but because I always like to see how the game reacts to your choice to play a female, how the dialogue changes, how the world reacts to you. It always bothered me how outside of a few sound-clips, your female character was essentially the male character except with an inexplicable lack of armour. Mass Effect surprised in this regard, and most of the Shepards I've made have ended up female, in no small part due to Jennifer Hale's performance. No skin off Meer's nose, of course, as he does a fantastic job (and a far better job on Renegade dialogue, or at least a far more amusing approach), but Hale's voicework just appealed to me far more.
Morality : ParagonI feel like I project too much of myself onto Shepard when I'm supposed to be roleplaying, but this is what my main Shepard (and a good chunk of my other ones) boiled down to, but this what my Shepard ended up as, compassionate to the people who deserve yet the judge, jury and executioner of those who don't, although at the same time, shows little compassion to batarians due to her past and while not killing the 'non-hostile' ones, as one might say, she certainly didn't spare medi-gel she could use for herself or her squad (as in on my main Shepard file, I ended up letting the batarian on the street succumb to illness) or spare much a thought to them.
Bring Down the Sky: Let the hostages die but got away with killing Balak. My Shepard just couldn't let Balak walk away and do what he did to so many other people if she let him go. If Balak wouldn't harm anyone else outside Asteroid X57, that'd be fine with her, although she would later contemplate whether or not it was just her bias against batarians that made the decision for her and not her moral integrity.
The Council : I Sacrificed ThemBecause I dislike viewing the events of the RPG from a 'meta-game' perspective. This is exactly what my Shepard would of done regardless, because while Paragons would of ended up with decidedly more substance than the 'new' Council, I didn't know this at the time and my Shepard certainly didn't know either, it was simply the best choice I thought I could make. I didn't want wasted firepower defending a vessel that while 'politically' important wouldn't mean a thing if Sovereign isn't taken down. I needed every ship to concentrate on taking that monster down before we were all dust in the wind. This wasn't a matter of wanting human dominance (that inevitably happened, which kind of pissed me off, because I wished for a dialogue option to recommend that the Council function as it did before, without any sort of human-led representation), this was simply the best decision I could make. Five lives for trillions.
Human Councilor: Anderson
Because
fuck Udina.
The Collector Base : Destroyed ItA combination of a quick weigh-in of the options combined with some serious emotions regarding Cerberus (because, again, Sole Survivor, Akuze...) , my Shepard took the choice to destroy the Collector Base and ran with it. She considered the ability to turn people into genetic slushies to be exactly the opposite of what she wanted The Illusive Man to have, and that staying on the 'Reaper technological railway' was exactly the opposite of where they wanted to go.
Rachni Queen : Saved it (her?), because the idea of wiping out an entire species simply for
existing left a bad taste in my Shepard's mouth. Again, not from any sort of meta-game experience, but that simply being what my Shepard would of done regardless.
Urdnot Wrex : Saved him. Because my Shepard saw no real point in killing him. Wrex was proven to be a great ally from the events to Virmire, and if she had to put Wrex down, she would, though she didn't see the real purpose in not even attempting to talk him down and convince him that the krogan in the facility were puppets to Saren's will and nothing more.
Virmire : Killed Kaidan, although for some reason I can't really justify it much over killing Ashley. I just didn't like him too much. Figures.
Casulties: Urdnot Grunt is dead, no one else. Dead through a miscalculation in my Shepard's plans and her choice to send Grunt in as the distraction team leader (based on criteria in that he is a
krogan, large, violent and loud, thus very
distracting), leading to a fatal gut-shot (which I really never understand seeing as a shot to the gut to Grunt would heal in seconds). I'm wondering what the implications with regards to how this will affect krogan relations.
Genophage Data: Kept it. While, in the end, my Shepard believed that the genophage was the right thing, destroying it would serve no purpose, and that at the least, it could be kept for study and at most, if the (incredibly low) possibility of Wrex bringing the krogans into line and less focused on the whole 'galactic domination' thing, that they could be responsible enough for the cure to be distributed.
Heretics: Kept them. Despite the inherent moral quandries that faced my Shepard in regards to brain-washing things (which in turn evoked memories of Mindoir), she rationalized that this was less brainwashing than it was cleaning up a glitch, and that destroying the station would merely mean that the survivors would merely be incredibly angry, perhaps initiating a civil war between the heretic geth and the true geth.
Samara/Morinth: I chose Samara, simply because that's the
only choice that makes sense. Who in
god's name would choose the psychopathic sex vampire serial killer over the Justicar? At least from a roleplaying perspective (even though Reave is infinitely more useful than Dominate), even Renegades should realize that this is a pretty easy decision in regards to saving Samara.
Tali's Trial: I admit it. I took the easy way out, I could of rallied the crowd with Veetor and Reegar still alive, but the awesomeness of Shepard's speech (both of them) just can't be denied.
Love Interest(s): I rather disliked the options that were avaliable to Shepard. Kaidan (who I warmed up to, although still didn't want to romance) and Liara, who I hated for being nothing but fanservice and boringness. I hooked up with Garrus for ME2, and honestly, I don't regret it. At all. Garrus is awesomeness incarnate, and the romance line itself is absolutely hysterically adorable.
