Is it with the pre-order items? If so, I have a similar problem, it says the code has been used, but I got it new. I'm not sure what to do.

I just bought my own copy of Dragon Age (had previously been using a roommates) and tried to put in the code to redeem the dragon armor and stone prisoner that came with it. Evidently, they expired a year ago

They didn't expire. The dates are moot. Bioware made the decision to not expire them a long time ago.
Perhaps you're trying to enter them in the wrong place? You enter them from the DLC menu in Dragon Age, not the Xbox button with the "redeem code" section. If you're still having trouble, I suggest calling EA support and talking to a rep. They were actually quite helpful to me on an unrelated matter today, despite the bad experiences I've heard about.
