I'm one of those people who has to have her desktop icons "just so" and I frequently change them.  I'm having a hard time getting my ducks in a row so it is more efficient.

I'd like to improve the way I play so that I can play without pausing so much, just for fun.  I don't hate pausing, I like the feature, but sometimes I want to just go berserk and enjoy the bloodbath.

What do you recommend?  I tried to set them up according the order in which I like to attack, but it still feels... off, somehow.

Depends on what spells you have, I guess. One thing, if you have multiple mages, set the same spells in the same places.

Typically I'll have at least a few primal spells or hexes or healing spells that I use frequently, and those go in the first few slots. I might have affliction hex in slot 4, and winter's grasp, arcane bolt, and stone fist in 1-3. That way if I just want to deal single-target damage I can hit 4, 1, 2, 3, 1... I usually always take mind blast, that goes in #5, since I want it somewhere that's easy for my fingers to find.

After that, I sort them by function. Sustainables all go on the far right, since I rarely hit those buttons. AOE spells go in a group off to the right by themselves. If I have a lot of healing/support spells and they're not in the first few slots, I'd put them in 6-9 so I can just put my fingers there if I need to and cycle through them.

I usually put the sustainable buffs in the 8, 9 and 0 slots for each character so that I can cycle through each character and set them up as efficiently as possible . My mages have Arcane Bolt in 1, heal at 2, group heal if they have it at 3 and their AOE skills at 4, 5, and 6 and any other single spell they use frequently at 7. The rest go past 0. At the end I have my poultices. I also adjust my tactics slots so my characters know what they have to do without much supervision. The only one that requires the most micromanaging is usually Alistair because whenever he decides to think for himself he gets into trouble.
