Since you point it out though...that's what Reapers do...they reap. Another thing some people in this thread don't seem to get.
It should have been understood from the get go that they view organic life as a crop. Hence why they are called REAPERS. Obviously they didn't just commit genocide for the fun of it, there was always a reason why they killed off technologically advanced organic life in a pattern.
So I don't understand why people have a problem with the collectors based off some bit of dialogue about how Reapers view their selves as the pinnacle of evolution (NOTE: THERE ACTUALLY IS NO CONTRADICTION HERE FYI) especially since the Reapers were established to use organics as slaves in the first game...and the collectors are just genetic constructs that have been totally transformed beyond recognition. This wasn't something that was done to them as a show of respect and it's not really all that different from the keepers (I sense a pattern in this naming convention) except they don't just sit and maintain the Citadel.
