In RL I swear more in one sentence than this entire game does.

If I wrote the dialogue, every line would have the F word in it.

I like it that way...

I hate Aria's line. It sounds stupid...maybe it's the delievry or the creepy close up. Everyone elses rampant swearing is fine and if I was Sidonius I would have said worse.

EXTREEEEME CLOSEUP

I actually liked Aria's line.  It made me do a sassy snap of approval.

Didn't someone do this topic just yesterday?

Seriously, there's more violence and bad language in Shakespeare. I thumb my nose at thee, OP.

I didn't mind the swearing (I've worked in kitchens, construction, and hospitals I've heard it all). Some of it did seem a little unnatural but there's only one way to solve that problem and sadly that's adlibbing which wouldn't turn out much better. Some games do throw in too much swearing in order to come across as adult (I've heard this accusation leveled at the Witcher as an example) I don't think this is one of them. Yes there's a lot more swearing than ME1 but we're in an entirely different setting. We're not in the cushy confines of Citadel Space with soldiers and other noble and civilized individuals. We're in the hind end of space dealing with people who thrive in that environment (for the most part) it'd seem odd if there wasn't as much swearing. Did they go too far? Matter of personal opinion.

If i can find a schizophrenic person to join in how many do they count as?

Hmm. Depends on how many people are floating around in there.

3? 4? Perhaps shaking this person and listening to what's rattling around will shed some light.

If someone came up to me and announced that they were the only thing standing between me and a hole in my head, I'd launch a precision F-strike, too. And I dare anyone to claim, with a straight face, that they wouldn't have a bad case of verbal sh*ts too if they'd been in Joker's shoes during the abduction.

Okay, since you went back and edited your post I feel you're entitled to a re-evaluation.

This is coming from the viewpoint of someone who was a fan of Mass Effect 1. I mean, I liked that game because it was epic and retro and was funny and yet it had little swearing. Most games nowadays swear waaay too much. Gears could get away with it at some points but mostly it was stupid. The Call of Duties are also going down this path. In fact, the only 15-rated games (M in America) I haven't seen doing this now are the Halo games but even they over use the B words slightly.

I don't understand why you think swearing in videogames = low quality.

In fact, I even think it's a good thing, there being more and more swearing in all these games. Its indicative of games being more and more accepted as ADULT media, and not just for children.

Cra5y Pineapple wrote...

And also, the use of language in ME2 was rediculous. I mean, the only two characters who got away with it were Joker and Jack. And none of it came out right to be honest. I was expecting Miranda at the start to say a more appropiate "abloodyhero!" which would suit her accent more. But her saying it slowly didn't really work. It's the same with the Physics obsessed Marines outside the Citadel.

I don't understand what you mean here.

Cra5y Pineapple wrote...

Zaeed's language just seemed stupid. I mean, he was British. Most of the diolouge he was given was written as though an American was meant to say it. I mean, you don't hear very many British people saying "sonofa****" and this is coming from someone who was born and lives in Britain.

Swearing is everywhere. Ev-ry-where.

Cra5y Pineapple wrote...

I NEVER said swearing was paticulary bad. It's just in ME2 in was incredibly out of place and occasionally overused.

I don't think so, but I respect your opinion.

Yes, because you are exposed to every British person in existance. Regularly. When they're pissed off.

This is a poor thread.

I personally think that swearing in ME2's environment (it was meant to be more gritty after all) would have been fine. However, it seems that there are more "pockets" of swearing than there is a constant (but thin) layer of cursing. It feels like you're running through the game with completely normal language and then out of nowhere someone drops the F-bomb, then the game continues with more normal language, and is then reinterrupted with another swear word, etc etc etc.

What I mean is, ME2 could have done with a little more swearing. Not GTAIV styled-swearing, mind you, just more swearing as in enough to make the game reflect the gritty environment that the developers were going for.

I don't. I think you'd actually have to be totally ignorant, an actual retard, or work for Fox News to say/think something like this.

I think the language in this game is pretty tame.

Realistically I'd expect to hear more swearing given the nature of your crew.

I thought it was quite tame to what real life is like. It doesn't mean anything nowadays, it's just an expression like frowning.

Honestly I don't think the swearing was over done, honestly there are some point's in the game where I expected Shepard to drop an f-bomb or an oh sh*t. Like on Tali's recruitment mission when you unlock the door and the blind's drop and you see the Colossus for the first time. It honestly felt to me like Bioware was avoiding using swearing even when it would of fit the context.

Nope, personally I thought all the swearing was totally in context. once with Aria, and quite a few times with Zaeed and jack, felt all organic to me
