Hi! I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or if it's supposed to be like this, but after giving Liara one point in electronics, which says it was supposed to give her the first rank of Overload, it doesn't appear in her list of abilities available for her to use when I hit the space bar.
If it helps, I'm running the PC version of Mass Effect 1 (as if the bit about the space bar didn't give that away) on Vista. I'm not sure offhand which patch I'm running. I downloaded it from Steam, so I'm not sure if it was already patched or not.
I haven't had any problems with any other character's abilities not showing up. It's just her electronics.
Thanks for any help you all can provide!
Why doesn't Liara have Overload?

This is a known problem with both the PC and 360 versions of ME1. (It will also occur with Shepard's bonus talent if, as a power-heavy class like Adept or Sentinel, you select a bonus talent that comes with a power - e.g. Electronics).
With the 360 version, one work-around with Shepard is to take the bonus talent before your last normal power-related talent, and map the bonus power as the quick-access power; that way it can be accessed that way even after it's disapparead off the wheel.
But with Liara, and the PC version, I'm honestly not sure if there's anything you can do. On the plus side, I don't think it's anything more than a UI bug; so maybe she'll still use it in combat as long you let your squadmates actively use powers?

Ah well. At least I only spent one point in it, so I guess it's no major loss.
And fortunately, my Shepard is an infiltrator/commando, so I probably won't run out of room. (And he has electronics, so it's not like I've got NO overloads... I do wish I could get another one without having to bring along another techie, though.)
It's kinda' strange, though; she still has space on her bar for it. (In the PC version, the abilities come up in a bar at the side, that doesn't look much like a wheel. Haven't played the 360 version, though, so I'm not sure how the two differ. If it's just a matter of space to place the ability, she should be able to get it.
I'll definitely keep an eye out to see if she uses it on her own, though. Thanks for the tip.
One would think that's the sort of thing they'd be able to fix in a patch on the PC version pretty easily, though. Since I bought my copy over Steam, does anybody know if Steam applies the patches itself, like it does with actual Steam/Valve games? If not, can I apply patches manually without Steam getting all wonky? That's provided there's actually a patch to fix this, though. Well, anyway, I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, there is space in the UI, but it still doesn't show up. Presumably some sort of carryover from the 360. And I think your Infiltrator would indeed be fine with a bonus power, since that class has two weapons, which means two powers sharing one slot.
Steam should given given you the latest patch already, yes (1.02). It doesn't fix this bonus power issue.
