Apologies for beating what must be a dead horse, but every post I find regarding modifying .uti files either goes unanswered or is related to the creation of completely new items.

What I would like to do is modify the material and material progression values of the Stormchaser Gauntlets to White Steel (so it matches the rest of the set) and the Barbed Fist to Volcanic (which I believe it should be, since it's a later acquisition and would match Venture, Fleet Feet, and Helm of Dragon's Peak); I found the corrospondering files (gxa_im_arm_glv_hvy_001.uti and gxa_im_arm_glv_hvy_002.uti) in \\Dragon Age\\packages\\core_ep1\\data\\designeritems.erf, extracted them, and swapped the values, but the toolset crashes if I try to save these changes.

Any suggestions for my particular dilemma would be much appreciated.

Funny. xD

Apparently gxa_im_arm_glv_hvy_001.uti works just fine, it's the 002 that crashes the toolset if you attempt to save it, modification or not.

Hm, strange, it crashes for me regardless of which one I save.

Yeah that's really strange, maybe they did a ninja update to the .uti format ?

Anyway, if I were you I'd just recreate the items from scratch in the toolset and override the existing ones.

Was rather afraid that was what I would need to do; since the base toolset doesn't support the new materials I would need to figure out how to recreate and add those as well. Never a simple solution anymore, is it? Ah well, thanks for the help.

Edit: Well then, glad to know that I haven't gone completely senile and can still puzzle out hex. On whim I decided to peek into the .utis to see if I could locate the entries for the values (4E26, 4E27, 4E2A, and 4E2B; 20006, 20007, 20010, and 20011 respectively) and noticed they were there... just backwards (264E, 274E, etc.). Edited the entries, saved the files, and successfully tested them in the game.

if you just extract materialtypes_gxa.gda into your override folder before launching the toolset, the new materials will appear in the list (but the material progressions don't, you'd probably need another gda or something...). But if you want a carbon copy of an item you could just export a 'dummy' item and then copy and paste the values into the .uti from the item you are trying to recreate.

Ah, didn't realize I could do that for the materials, that does make it quite a bit easier. Kinda sad I was more comfortable with hex editing than trying to puzzle out the toolset, heh.

Thank you so much! These little things drive me crazy, I would love to have this changed as well. Is there any chance you could upload this fix as an override? :)
