I just built myself a new PC and cannot get Mass Effect 1 or 2 to install on my computer. When I try to do so, I am able to select my language and the installer begins. I click next, agree to the licensing agreement, then it tells me that the installation has been canceled and to run setup again. I am running Windows 7 64bit, but i've seen other threads on the forum where people are running the same operating system and can play the game.
System Specs:
OS: Windows 7 64bit
Graphics: GeForce GTX 260
Memory: 4Gb DDR2
Processor: AMD Athalon II X2 250
Motherboard: MSI 785GTM-E45
I have attempted running the installers in compatibility mode and have not been able to determine the problem. Also, I got the programs via digital direct downlaod from http://www.direct2drive.com/
Mass Effect 1 and 2 will not install

I am in the same situation...liked ME2 so much I decided to get ME1 from Direct2drive.com. I get the 'Installation Canceled' issue as well at the same spot and can't figure out how to get past that step.
Anyone have an idea on how to correct?
Similar rig as Tobias runs.

I have downloaded Mass Effect 1 & 2 Bundle from Direct 2 Drive, and I have soved the problem. I have had the same problem. I had to copy the files in the download folder to a temporary folder on the desktop, then I ran the installer and it worked. When I installed it, it didn't run. I had to install a patch from EA to make it run. You can also install it from safe mode. It will give you an error, but I think the error doesn't matter. You will need the patch from EA. Happy Effecting.
