Two part question

I know you can do 2 out 3 main missions to continue to Virmire, I never done the minimum so Is it possible to not recruit Liara in ME1?

if so is does that effect interactions in ME2?

you have to recruit Liara, but if you do her mission last it makes for a funny scene

I'm pretty sure Liara is necesarry for progress. She is the one tracking down the Conduit.

Something about "I guess you didn't need me" or something similar.

After the whole bubble thing, obviously. Thought I would clairify.

She also becomes delirious in her bubble and thinks that Shepard is her mind playing tricks on her

One of the few times in the game time actually passes when you do missions. Turns out that while you've been gallivanting around the galaxy, Liara's been sitting there in stasis, staring at the wall. Pick her up near the end and she thinks you're a hallucination.

Well, if you do Feros, Noveria, and then go to Therum, she'll think you're a hallucination induced from her being in that bubble for so long.  Keeps it up for a while, too.

Its worth doing (or seeing) once just to see the scene.

During my very first playthrough of ME1, I did Therum last and got the hallucinating-Liara scene

Then in my second playthrough when I went to Therum first, I was surprised to get a different response.

Funny how that goes.

That video was hilarious.

I don't understand why just doing Therum last rather than first or second suddenly makes her think you're a hallucination.

Dehydration causes you to hallucinate. She probably was talking to a translucent oyster right before that encounter.

Her (mind) barrier needed work, obviously.

If you save Liara after Virmire, not only she thinks you're a hallucination, but back on the Normandy... She studied Protheans for 50 years to no avail, and they you show up... She is incredibly pissed off!!! I guess that's when she decided to change trade.

One other thing to point out is that thanks to Kasumi and Zaeed, if you want to, you don't have to have any interaction with her in ME2, course, this comes at the cost of not being able to recruit Thane or Samara, but wouldn't suprise me if there are some people that wouldn't mind that

You can still recruit them just don't visit Liara.

You can't recruit them without visting Liara.
