Agreed. It annoys me when I play with a soldier and have no use for aything other than AR and SR (because of my playstyle not because they are worse/better than other weapons) and still have to cycle or set the pair up to swtich with X. It's worse when I'm in the heat of battle I and I ran out of bullets for my SR, then it switches automatically to pistols instead of AR, or anything else. <_<

Yes indeed, it was a problem people had with ME1 too.
BW sort of addressed it in ME2 but only by limiting which types of weapons each class can use.
It's odd, because personalisation is such an important part of WRPGs that you'd think they'd know to let you choose your own loadout.
OT: On Xbox I'm 99.9% certain you're stuck with it, just try to find one which offends the eye least. With the PC there will be a way to mod out the heavy weapon I'm sure, but it isn't in the same place as modding normal weapon loadouts, if memory serves.

1) You can just use 1 weapon all the time
2) You had weapon hotkeys
I despise soldier in ME2, not because they're weak, but because juggling weapons without hotkeys is a total @#$%!

True, the problem people had with ME1 though is similar to what the OP has with ME2 heavy weapons though, an aesthetic one. It looked stupid to have your engi or adept running around with all these weapons that he couldn't use.

Just 'cos they didn't have training doesn't equal "couldn't use."
My adept used the shotgun and sniper rifle on rotation ... 'cos they had scram rails and high explosive rounds.
It's just more CC, and something to do while biotics are on cooldown. Seriously, pistol takes too much time to use.
