***I am using Nvidia geforce 8600 gt***

Or does it freeze to black/crash to desktop after the new game cinematic for you too?

Do you have the most updated drivers for this particular video card?

ingame cutscenes are fine for me, but the ones in video format stutter alot, at least when I see them the first time

I am running an XFX 8600 GT and all works well for me. I am playing at almost maxed settings with 2x antialiasing. I am running the newest beta 195.39 drivers. If you have your drivers updated I am guessing something else in your rig may not be up to snuff. I also have 4GB RAM and I think that helps. Also, you may want to try disabling your antivirus as I had some slowdown/crash issues when I ran the game with mine on (Avast). Good luck!

I am using a XpertVision 8600GT 1GB.

I have had only one crash. When is was overlooking the vast landscape at Ostagar. Just a quick black screen no more than a second. No windows error was reported by windows and nothing was picked up by drwtsn32. drwtsn is a program that dumps all if available information when a windows reports an error with a program that crashes. All i know for sure was that it was a prety clean crash!

I am running an 8800GT in WinXP. 1280x1024, high detail, 2xAA. No real problems. Sometimes there are pauses during combat but I don't think it's video-related. I think I'm just not used to the flow of combat yet.

But this game does suck a lot of memory -- seems to use 1G just when it's started. So if you're short of memory (I'd say you need at least 2G), you would get strange pauses when windows has to swap virtual memory. (Note you can put 4G into a 32-bit Windows system but it will max out at 3G usable -- that is what I'm running now).

I've got an XFX 8600GT on 7 with no problems video wise, just had to manually set my monitors native resolution, but that's normal.

I use the 8600M GT on my laptop and it runs the game fine for me now. granted its a bit sluggish with graphics set to very high, but on high it runs smooth, i had to find a new video card driver that allowed for better performance though.

there is no issue with the 8600 GT Video Card running this game....could prolly run two of em at the same time, though it would be slow :D

update the drivers for your video card, and monitor at least....also make sure that when you run the game to run at standard/native resolutions first with the texture etc. set to low to make sure it works then you can turn textures back up.

one last thing is to make sure the inside of the computer is cleaned of dust, your video card might be overheating which can cause it to go black and basicaly windows causes the game to crash to prevent major issues with your monitor. also, tho i prolly dont need to mention this, make sure your monitor isnt an older model(basicaly can your monitor handle your video card).

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have 2 gb's of ram, intel core duo 2.00 ghz. All of my specs are fine, but I havent really looked into the monitor issue. Also, the toolset will not run..something about the SQL express 2005 thing..no idea what it even is, but now every time i startup the toolset or my computer, an SQL error pops up =/

All drivers are up to dte with the exception of the monitor [which is an AOC LM942 19" LCD] ..cant find a driver for it

I have an 8600gt 256 ram with 2gb 800mhz ram nas 2.8ghz dual core AMD, this means other than having an 8600 not a 8800 I match the recommended specs. I try to play though and everything fine at the start of the elf game (say 20 mins of playing) until I go back to a cave a second time get to a certain part and from there on in get artifacts allover the place - even in the movies! Goint to reinstall, but this makes me think of another question - which folders hhold the DLC files so I can back them up? because what if I have to re-install the game in 6 months because of a PC problem? Some of the free DLC would have gone past their 'sell-by date'. Any ideas anyone?

I've seen a few people here using SLI setups. Does game support SLI? What drivers are you using?

if the game doesnt support SLI it will run anyways just as a program that doesnt support dual CPU's can still run....you may have to change any settings that there might be for the SLI setup, i have no idea how that works tho since i do not myself have dual video setup.

don't get the latest driver for nvidia. Get the latest beta driver, or reroll to an older driver! I had crashes with the latest diver for my nvidia 8600 gt.

I have 8600 GT and I got some really game breaking flickering-polygon distortions and the occasional BSOD. I really hope someone finds a fix for it.

Well I have:
AMD 6000+ 3.0GHz
2 GB RAM
GF 8600 GT 256MB
WIN XP SP2

I'm using 169.21 drivers actually and what can I say well....at high textures details and high graphic with AAx2 and all options on game is working not bad but for example during fight after Ostogar battle movie when I'm running on the wall near archers game is slowing down to 13-15fps, after that when I first encounter enemies again 13-15 fps. So why? If not at maxed details with only AAx2 it should work a lot better around 20+fps.
So what's the problem?

How do you check fps. Fraps didn't work for me.
I'm using an 8600m gt (laptop), winXP SP3, Forceware 182.50 and the performance is bad-ish, so I'd like to see some FPS's to check the performance. I'm using medium detail, high textures and framebuffer effects (no AA). Whithout Framebuffer effects, the game works very well but the atmosphere is affected a lot.
If only EA/Bioware decided to allow custom graphic setings (even via the .ini, with no menu in game). I mean: enable/disable shadows, depth of field, lighting (HDR, dynamic lighting, etc). Neverwinter nights, and even Mass Effect were very "tweakable" in that department, and you could get your own best configuration as quality/performance is concerned.
I really hope the patches will allow some settings, at least a functional EnableShadows=0 in the DragonAge.ini. For my video card shadows take about 20-40% performance, depending on the game. Fingers crossed.

There is a lot of problems with the 18x.xx nvidia drivers. You should go update them. Even more so, now that Nvidia is FINALLY supporting mobile GFX drivers.
