If Cailen survived somehow and was a compainion....

personally I think Cailen would be a freaking arrogant and problaby oblivious if one of the other party members(like morrigan) insulted him but I think he would be a decent warrior if not better than Alistair and most likely if he was a companion he'd be the one to give you the Champion specialization
and anyone have any idea for what his character build would be?

Maybe we're supposed to assume that him being a companion comes complete with a mod to make him stop talking about glory every five seconds?soignee wrote...

She understands me.
You clearly don't OP.
He would be dead because I would have killed him if I was given the chance. If not, he would rot in camp.

Buildwise, he is most likely a 2 hander, since that's what we see him fighting as in the Ostagar battle scenes. And I have more than enough 2 handers in my party as is, thank you.

thank you at least one person so far has answered the question as it was intended to be aswered(I want your actual opinions on what i'd be like to have him as a companion like how would he interact with other party members and such not how much you'd hate him and kill him just for spouting glory in every sentence)Skadi_the_Evil_Elf wrote...
I would not relish the idea of traveling with a very shiny Ned Flanders clone. And since my PC is the one in charge, and my PCs tend to prefer subtlety and guile, there would be a major conflict of leadership principles and styles, so he would not last long.

But yeah, Cailan would have been a warrior with both 2H and SnS skills and I've got enough of both already...first comment and he'd have been rubbing his hands near the fire in camp, and second comment he'd have been skewered.

I think having Cailan in the party would make my teeth ache. I'm sure he would be a fine warrior, but good god... I'd imagine as a member of a small, tight-knit party where everyone kicks ass doesn't care about rank, he would be very unhappy and irritate everyone else.
Though I can imagine some nice bantering if paired with Sten and Morrigan.

Cailan's presence would make me miss Alistair assuming the role of a follower. At least Alsitair knows when to stfu and follow.

As for build I am thinking 2hander (and I already have Sten and Oghren) and maybe some S&S cause of the stuff you pick up in Ostagar.
But ya personality wise...I would have killed him myself if the darkspawn hadn't already.

When did this happen? The only time I remember him mentioning Alistair is whe he wanted to keep him safe at the battle. Or is this something Anora passed on?to mention he tends to be snobby where Al is concerned and being a Alistair fangirl I think first smart comment he made i would feed him to the darkspawn and when I got to the Landsmeet just said "Cailan? Cailan who?"

Its a party banter with Alistair and (I think Wynne) where he talks about meeting Cailan as a boy and saying "hello" and Cailan responding with "Ooooh swords" and running off. That being the extent of his family interaction, they kind of fell apart after that...

I thought that just meant that he met someone who he may or may not known was his half-brother but, being a child, he was more interested in the armory. Being a noble he was probably more polite than that and since that's the only time they met (had to keep Alistair low-profile and that wouldn't work if he was hanging around with Cailan) that was the height of their relationship. Anora does seem to indicate that Cailan was interested in him later and kept tabs on his life.
But he never really took the time to get to know him either. I dunno just seems that whole family situation the Guerrin/Mac Tir/Theirin thing just screams dysfunctional. Frankly my favorite playthrough I let Anora keep the throne and Al and my DE ran off to be Gray Wardens together. I think he was happier away from it all.

Wow....not saying your wrong but Cailen must've been retarded if I was cailen the minute I heard there was someone other than myself with a royal cliam to the throne I would've immeadiately summoned him and either executed him or made him relinquish his royal rights to the throne for him and his heirs guess he was busy thinking about glory as usualHerr Uhl wrote...

Cailan was the elder and seen as the rightful king. Alastair wouldn't be much of a threat to him.

Well its more a matter of preserving the family line than that. I can see Anora wanting him executed because she's a Mac Tir and he would be a threat (esp with Eamon alive). Cailan was thinking of saving the family line by sending Ali to the tower (I believe) knowing he could be killed and the tower was a "safer" alternative for the back up heir.
I just wish he had named Alistair his heir prior to this crap as it would have saved SO much trouble. Ali never wanted the throne and he wasn't a threat to Cailan (thanks to Eamon that bastard).

Instead, he sent him to safety during the battle, which was a smart move. As opposed to your suggestion, execution.. which is stupid.
Everyone knew, no one more so than Alistair, that there was no room for him on the throne, and he didn't want it. Cailan probably knew that too.. and still, sent him to safety.
