He knew, at least he knew by Ostagar.

Wow....not saying your wrong but Cailen must've been retarded if I was cailen the minute I heard there was someone other than myself with a royal cliam to the throne I would've immeadiately summoned him and either executed him or made him relinquish his royal rights to the throne for him and his heirs guess he was busy thinking about glory as usualPosted Image

Not only did Cailan not have an heir so having Alistair around might be useful, but Alistair was raised by Eamon specifically so he wouldn't be a threat to Cailan's rule (think how difficult it is to convince him to be King) and unless someone with power and a solid reputation - Eamon, for instance - backs Alistair up then he wouldn't be acknowledged by the nobles. And Alistair is less of a threat to Cailan once he's already on the throne because no one could use him as a puppet ruler unless Cailan was deposed and if were deposed another familiy could take over as the royal line even without Alistair's presence. Most people don't know about him, although the secret seems to be far more open among the nobility than Alistair believed.

And he must know about Alistair because he told Anora all about him (and she was unimpressed).

Instead, he sent him to safety during the battle, which was a smart move. As opposed to your suggestion, execution.. which is stupid.

Everyone knew, no one more so than Alistair, that there was no room for him on the throne, and he didn't want it. Cailan probably knew that too.. and still, sent him to safety.

true but I mean if Calien knew BEFORE ostagar where he did not know that loghain would leave him to die

He didn't have to know what Loghain was planning to know that the battle was dangerous and lighting the beacon was presumably not.

I'd like him, he's a bit of a child but I have the humor of ten year old so I think we'd get along fine.

I think he would get along fine with people at camp. Cailan, like his father, is a very charismatic man. Sure, he might butt heads with some people sometimes, but I think all the companions would warm up to him.

His personality/behavior is a lot like Maric's in The Stolen Throne- and I mean the Maric BEFORE Katriel's demise.

Um, if Cailan lived, there would have been no civil war. And, in short, no game. Oh, sure, you could have fought the Blight and maybe even gathered up an ally or two, but it would have been a completely boring and uninteresting thing to do.

Besides, if Cailan did join your party, he'd just be running around carousing and partaking of "Ferelden's Bounty". You'd never get anything done, unless you left him behind. And that invalidates your question too! ;)

He'd probably shut up about glory because he got crushed by an ogre.

Hah, I'd love to have Cailan as a party member!

He's like a bigger, stronger, more charismatic Alistair, who loves wine, women and the thrill of combat! My PCs would get along with him just fine.

I actually wonder what kind of party banter he would have with Morrigan XD

I picture it like this:

PC: Cailan watch out, I sense a whole horde of darkspawn!

Cailan: GLORIOUS!!! *runs blindly forward and right into the horde*

PC: *facepalm*

It would do considerable damage to the whole 'the Grey Wardens killed the King' ploy...

'No, he's not, he's right here.'

Incidentally, has anyone ever turned Loghain into a Grey Warden and then done the Return to Ostagar DLC? It would be interesting to see his reaction to the return and finding Cailan's corpse.

I predict the ending would probably go something like this:

Warden: Cailen, you idiot! You were not supposed to strike the finishing blow!

Cailan: But-but...you didn't say...G-g-g-glory! Legend!

Warden: Now we have to kill the Archdemon all over again! All over again! And it's all your-! [Gets eaten.]

Oh, that would be great...

At the Landsmeet:

Loghain: You betrayed us at Ostagar and killed King Cailan!
Warden: Really? Why didn't anybody ever tell me? Cailan?
Cailan: This is the first I've heard of it and that sounds distinctly non-glorious.
Nobles: *talking amongst themselves* Is that King Cailan? I thought he did at Ostagar, ect.
Loghain: Do you really think you can fool us with the imposter? The real Cailan- *stops as he sees that Cailan has gotten bored and pulled out a sword to swing about and occassionally hit Alistair with* Okay, fine, maybe it is him after all.

Lol. I don't really think you'd need to call a Landsmeet with King Cailan in tow. Anora would easily be able to confirm it. Would she though? Considering the power-hungry cow that she is?

Well according to a certain conversation you can have with Alistair and Eamon's standing right, Cailan's known about Alistair since he became King and  he married Anora.  In fact these are Alistair's exact words:

Alistair:  I never thought it would come to this.  When Cailan got married, everyone thought it was best to just... have me step aside.  It was a relief, actually.

So yes he knew and until Anora and Cailan produced an heir, Alistair's considered Cailan's heir if anything were to happen to Cailan.  Which it did.

Also when you talk to Anora in one of your conversation's she will say that Cailan knew about Alistair.

Oh ya and btw if Cailan survived that means we'd have to deal with Anora more then we do. NO TY. That alone I couldn't deal with lol. And you can probably bet their would be competition between the brothers along with a lot of awkwardness.  Zev would probably be trying to kill Cailan every chance he got just to shut Cailan up about the glory thing lol.  Morrigan would probably freeze him everytime he brought something up irrevelant that annoyed her.
Leliana would be constantly trying to capture his eye lashes.  Sten would of demanded he be put out of the party even before Cailan entered camp and Oghren, I don't think he'd really care as long as he had plenty of booze lmao.
Oh ya can't forget about Dog, Dog would probably maul him to death and bury him in his hole he's diggin lol.

As far as weapon, probably 2H.

EDIT:  I guess I should slow down when typing, too many errors lol.

I dunno Zev is pretty easy going about most things.  If he didn't come up with the idea of putting a blade between Cailan's shoulders though I think my PC would have hired him to do it.  Maybe he just needs some monetary incentive.

If Zev was romancing the PC though and he saw how distressed the PC was because of Cailan, I know he'd do it in a heartbeat even without being asked lol.

I disagree with your appraisal of Sten's reaction to Cailan, Thor. Cailan saw it as his duty to fight the darkspawn himself - Sten would respect that. Every able-bodied man should fight and do his duty. Duty is the Qunari way.

Lmao I was just basing that off of how Cailan's got this fantasy idea of how wars suppose to go.  Some of his idea's aren't realisim and once Sten saw that because he is a no nonsense kind of person, go straight to the archdemon, don't take any shortcut's kind of warrior he's not going to put up with Cailan's fantasy he's got playing in his head.
All Sten's duty is is to go straight for the AD.  You find that out if you take Sten to Haven for the first time.  With Sten there are no side quest's, no dilly-dallying around.  Sten's world is not based on a fantasy, Cailan's is.

So where were the dilly-dally and side quests in Cailan's itinerary?

I'm afraid I don't recall the dialogue where he said 'we're off to slay the arch demon, but we need to make a pit-stop at Starbucks for my decaf latte first...' He was disappointed there was no sign of the arch demon.

No dilly-dally with Sten, and yet you have to run around after his sword? That officially qualifies as a side-quest.

Well, Stens sword thing wasnt dilly-dally. The Sword represented a lot to Sten, and he was resigned to the loss of it all.

I'm pretty sure Sten wouldnt like Callian, at first, just because Callian is talkative and would ask questions.

slight difference....I didn't read the entire thread..you apparently didn't or couldn't read or comprehend the post you responded too.

I on the other hand replied to a specific post in reference to the origin post for this thread.

you on the other hand try to use my not reading the ENTIRE thread as some kind of comeback

either way..you fail

nice try though..thanks for playing...and you may not want to make yourself look so stupid next time you decide to play.
