Looking at the numbers, it appears that they are bit-flags. I tried analyzing the numbers but am stuck - I couldn't find anything common amongst abilities that have the same abilitymode.
For example, War Cry, Rally and Superiority all have abilitymode 512 but War Cry is an activated ability, Rally is sustained and Superiority is passive.
Any ideas?
What does AbilityMode column in ABI_Base.xls mean?

Looks like I'm going to have to necro this. Because googling that question turns up this thread, and nothing else, so clearly it still needs an answer.
At a guess, it tells the game something about what sort of talent/spell/item/skill the ability is, in the same way that the Condition_Mode column is a modifier for the Condition column, but... yeah, no idea beyond that, I can't see anything that abilities that share numbers have in common. If this is an active flag, it would be really good to know what it does; it might be the solution to my occasional inability to make a new ability work (and having no idea why).
