I was also kind of shocked how much Femshep seemed to want to "put-out" when you consider how much of a proud and seasoned soldier she would be.

I think it was Patton who said, "A soldier who won't f***, won't fight."  I just put it down to Shepard being a healthy soldier.

I agree he should have been romanceable.

YES. Thank you. I actually would wholey support a Zaeed romance. He was one of the few male characters that actually seemed to have his balls intact.

Unless you're a female, I don't give a **** if you think the femshep romances are bad.

Not really sure where you're going with the first part there, but Tali doesn't count as she's always been awkward and dorky. So acting awkward and dorky during the romance culmination is just a continuation of that. Garrus was gruff and stoic up until you get him in your room at which point he devolves into an awkward buffoon and it just completely ruined his appeal for me (I was like "Who are you and what have you done with my Garrus?").

Jacob's romance is the closest thing to what I'm lookin for, but he has to go and ruin it by being both mind-numbingly boring leading up to it and then acting like a stuffed peacock once he gets there.

Basically, I'm just looking for a romanceable male character who takes some innitiative and doesn't bring a whole cargo bay full of emotional baggage with him.

Seriously, we've got Jacob playing shades of Kanye West and going on about "the priiiiize", Garrus dressed in godawful casual clothes acting like a rambling doofus and Thane getting all emo and weepy on our shoulders. Can we get a strong male character please?

I didn't think Thane was emo. I don't know why you people think that, I thought he was very stoic.

I've got a theory. I think you all have this disease; the longer you listen to Bioware characters talk through game after game, the more your ability to tolerate the sounds of their voices deteriorates, until you're all reduced to mindless husks who do nothing but complain if characters show any emotion or talk about themselves at all.

"Wah wah whiner whiner whiner UGH WOULD THIS PERSON JUST SHUT UP."

I must've missed the part where I told someone they were wrong for liking those characters.

And that's why there is nothing left to discuss.

Sorry, I have a standing policy against giving out personal information on the internet. Been burned too many times in MMOs.

My character is female. That's all anyone needs to know.

Since when are message boards limited solely to "right and wrong" debates? This forum is for the free exchange of ideas and opinions. My opinion is that the female romances are lame. If you don't agree then you're welcome to say as much or go elsewhere. But the conversation isn't "over" just because no one can prove anyone else wrong.

Well I find Jacob's relationship to be the best one to be honest. Yeah, yeah, the prize and all that jazz but hear me out.

It's not an actual "romance" like others where there is always some drama going on and deep character issues. For my female renegade, Jacob was the perfect choice because there isn't any lovey dovey stuff, just two adults, both showing interest and flirting around. Jacob doesn't want anything too serious and renegade Shepard seems like the type of girl that has the same idea.

At the end of the day, they are on their way to a possible one way trip. They don't need any mushy stuff since, lets face it, they are old enough to be over that. Jacob likes Shepard and she likes him, what more would you need?

Now ok, I am a guy so maybe that is a reason why it seems fine, but not every girl wants deep emotional relationships.

Alright fair enough, I've just seen this same path beaten down for all the romances. Just giving my opinion that I don't agree with you for the tiny grain of salt it's worth.

i think it's so bad because the creators of the game are males (well... mostly). so obviously they solved the male romance options pretty well. they just need to use their own fantasy. but when it comes to the female romances, they don't really know what to do with it.
but i have to add, the male romances are kind of unrealistic too (you might say it's a game, of course it's unrealistic). for example, when Miranda says to Shepard "maybe i want you to admire my body" - come on guys, seriously...
and Jacob, i don't even want to comment on that. i laughed so hard that i had to stop playing for like an hour (it's not a bad thing though, it just wasn't romantic at all)

I remember at that point: my brain was telling me to laugh at how ridiculous it was; and my mouth was telling me to drool.

If she says the "maybe I wouldn't mind you admiring my body" line you didn't do that scene right.

Cuz you missed out on the kiss. Tut tut. Must not miss out on kiss.

=P I liked Thane's romance. Garrus was way too awkward for my taste, and Jacob creeps me out.

I still stand by the fact they need to get more women on the team for the character creation and writing.

My character is female. That's all anyone needs to know.

It's a significant demographic, in the case of romance. Men and women are socialized in different ways, which trains them to like certain things. That's definitely not to say that all women or all men are alike, but there are trends. Even a skilled roleplayer can't get past all of their unconscious biases.

The reason I don't understand why people complain about one gender's romance is that male and female romances are roughly equivalent in the roles that they fill.
Jack = Thane (tragic romance with a dying person who's done bad things in their life; both final scenes include breaking into tears)
Tali = Garrus (cute, somewhat awkward romance that grow out of previous friendship and has cross-species difficulties)
Miranda = Jacob (mostly physical romance, very flirty, kind of a fling, blatant fanservice in final scene)
They're not significantly different.

Uh huh.  Thane's was the only romance I could stomach.  He's a cool dude.  I didn't romance him but I saw it on youtube and it's most definitely better than the others.

I'd say Miranda's romance was a bit  more meaningful than Jacob's.

There were some touching moments there. But Jacob's... I mean...

Do I even really need to say anything anymore?
