I was also kind of shocked how much Femshep seemed to want to "put-out" when you consider how much of a proud and seasoned soldier she would be.

I avoid chats with Jacob aboard the Normandy. It would have been nice if every dialogue option wasn't some juvenile variation of "Hey there, Mr. Taylor. You and me. Right here. Five seconds ago."

I'm all for this, but it's not as if men can't write decent romances--  the Alistair plotline in DA:O was written by a man.

Jack = Thane (tragic romance with a dying person who's done bad things in their life; both final scenes include breaking into tears)
Tali = Garrus (cute, somewhat awkward romance that grow out of previous friendship and has cross-species difficulties)
Miranda = Jacob (mostly physical romance, very flirty, kind of a fling, blatant fanservice in final scene)
They're not significantly different.

That depends on to what extent you think the human vs alien factor matters, and by extension, human gender-based secondary sexual traits matter.   Jack is human, Thane is not.  That, to some players is as significant a difference as gender.

If these things didn't matter, then BW could just use only Asari as  LI to cover both female and male shep and call it done.  While some people would be very satisfied with that, I am extremely glad they provided more variety.
I'm sort of split on whether Thane should/could have been human.  His alieness increases the feeling of being in some far off, future world and his design still manages to be attractive in a human male way, despite not being human.  Garrus on the other hand....aside from the voice (melt!) and the height...Turians just have funny shapes.  I still enjoyed the subplots, though.  Even Jacob's had its moments.

Because the writers don't know how to write personal, meaningful romance outside of tacky lines and melodrama?

Well I find Jacob's relationship to be the best one to be honest. Yeah, yeah, the prize and all that jazz but hear me out.

It's not an actual "romance" like others where there is always some drama going on and deep character issues. For my female renegade, Jacob was the perfect choice because there isn't any lovey dovey stuff, just two adults, both showing interest and flirting around. Jacob doesn't want anything too serious and renegade Shepard seems like the type of girl that has the same idea.

At the end of the day, they are on their way to a possible one way trip. They don't need any mushy stuff since, lets face it, they are old enough to be over that. Jacob likes Shepard and she likes him, what more would you need?

Now ok, I am a guy so maybe that is a reason why it seems fine, but not every girl wants deep emotional relationships.

Is this post really getting overlooked? It's someone that actually likes the Jacob romance - we need to make a bigger deal out of this. I applaud you, good sir.

On the other hand, I disagree with Jacob's romance lacking loveydovey things. He wants to talk about Shepard's feelings...he tells her he loves her (if you reject him at the last scene, funnily enough)...He kisses her tenderly and talks about being with her in a serious relationship. Jacob doesn't unload any baggage, but his romance still drips with sickeningly cheesy loveydoveyness.

ETA: This thread should just turn into a bunch of us admitting how much we want to bone Zaeed.

Alistair's romace was good but I felt it was a little... childish?
The FemWarden was the first girl he'd ever properly gotten to know so to me it just felt like it was more of a highschool crush then an actual deep relationship.
Or maybe its simply me being burned because he dumped my hawt dwarf commoner at the end of the game making me leap from my chair screaming "YOU A-HOLE!".
(Or maybe its because I'm a straight male who can barely sit through any kind of romantic tale... Posted Image')

Straight female closer to thirty than I care to admit here, and the rose bit made me feel all gooey, tbh.  Some things stand the test of time.

HA!  You guys simply can't admit that you like these stories, can you? You just admitted how absolutely mad it made you to get dumped .  But, oh no, you didn't really care about the big lug, did you? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

It is simple. They don't care about female players. They think there are only male players who play as female to look at asses. Face it girls: most of the players are teenage males with lots of testosterone:)))

The few real female players have to be satisfied with this options. Ok, you have someone to romance: a totally bland and boring human, an emo, and a turian (!!???!!!) That is why i am a big supporter of joker romance :)))

See now thats not true, Bioware do care about their female customers.

Garrus was made a LI because there was an outcry from the female fans for him to be one.

Thane was specifically designed for female gamers.

and Jacob...

Well 2 out of 3 aint bad?

Oh and Thane's not emo!

TOORIANS?? /jk

I'm pretty sure they do care about female players, being as they have females on the dev team and basically designed Thane to the womens' preferences. Pretty sure they had lotsa of female input on many more things than we know.

Anyway, while I do agree that it seems off that the guys got 2 humans to romance and gals only got 1, I actually liked the aliens better. Their romances are as much about looking past physical differences as they are about anything else.

But it's nowhere near as silly as Jacob.

Jack is hardly human.

And Bioware hasn't written a single strong romanceable character, male or female, ever.  Tali is really close.  I love Tali.  Tali's only problem is that she's 14.  She's intelligent, strong, but emotionally, a 14 year old.

Thane is close too.  Thane's only problem is that he's dying and emotionally, pretty broken.

My point, being, I've never really been happy with Bioware's idea of "attractive personality," but ME2 was their closest yet to delivering.  I've never understood their need to make sure every one of their characters is deeply flawed in some way, but at least Tali and Thane were flawed in attractive ways.

Ok im kinda specific being a female who plays as a male, but i am still straight and i think this doesn't seem that they put much effort into it. It is not about being human. I'd romance a hanar if he was interesting (blasto is not an option, dammit.

I really liked Dawn Star.
The other romance options in Jade Empire were rather bizarre, though.

I agree he should have been romanceable.

Hell yes!!

I don't think any of the female LI's sucked.  They were all fine in their own way.  None of them interested me, though, and my femshep didn't romance anyone this time around.  Just a matter of personal preference and I don't really feel like she missed out.  Two of my malesheps romanced Miranda so it'll be interesting to see the difference between Shepard staying faithful to an ME1 LI and Shepard not staying faithful.

I'm female, late 30's, married to someone in his 40's and that definitely helps form my opinion of the LI's.  I know the character of Shepard is 31 but since she's stuck with me at the controller she's thinking with my mindset.
