 Hey there!
I´ve got a question and I´d be very happy if there´s someone who can answer me it.
You see, if you create new item, shield actually, there will be an option to choose from different heraldries.
Now the thing is, does anybody know if it is ,and if so how, import your own heraldry into toolset for further use?

Thanks for answer :)

In theory, you convert your 2D image to .dds format, add the file name in an M2DA based on heraldry.xls, then re-open the toolset. I haven't had time to test this yet. It's possible that the .dds has special requirements, such as an alpha channel to make a background mask - maybe someone else has better info.

Hi, does anybody know where I can get an easy to follow idiots guide to adding my own custom heraldry to the toolset? I'm completely new to the toolset and the vanilla heraldry just doesn't do it for me.

Good afternoon all,

I am hoping on getting a bit of help I have used the tutorial on adding custom heraldry into a mod and all has went well to a point. I have created an added the .2DA file with the right lines and I can see the item I have added into the item inventory for heraldry. ( I named my GDA file Heraldry_custom) I am having trouble with a proper alpha mask and I know that. (using Gimp or Paint.net) However i just copied the H_primolora_0.dss and renamed it and added it into the Addins//module/override folder. I expected this should work as a placeholder and a method for checking to see if I'm doing it right until I figure out how to save the alpha channel mask and add my custom heraldry. But alas I get no item to display in the toolset Item heraldry screen and no icon on the character model ingame. Any insite or help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does the .dss file have to be made back into an .ERF file in the override directory??

The filename extension should be .dds, not .dss.

You should be able to see any .dds file you put into your module override folder in the toolset. For example, try changing your item's icon (but don't actually change it) then filter to textures starting with h_.

It's not necessary to put files into .erf containers. Bioware only do that as a means of compression (and encryption, for DLC).

Oops I should have proof read my post it is .dds file. Well I do have the .dds file in the toolset So I am guessing that my issue is with the alpha mask. When I have it in gimp and try to save it I am getting an error saying that it is not a volume map although I can see the mipmaps. Totally confused with the alpha layer thing. As in the tutorial i can see that my file size is the same as the original in fact it is the original just renamed.

Any thoughts are as always appreciated.

I had another thought at troubleshooting this issue. I added in my .gda file another id name and pointed it to look at h_primalora_0.dds My assumption was it would find the resource located in the textures.erf. This attempt at understanding however shows nothing in the tool sets Item inventory screen or in game.

I don't have any experience of editing alpha channels myself. I simply reuse shapes that Bioware has already designed. If you don't get any help here, maybe there's a forum for gimp somewhere?

You could try making a custom heraldry that uses an unmodified Bioware texture, simply to confirm that you have everything else set up correctly to work in game.

I am posting my stupidity as a lesson to all. Proleric you are right I had inadvertently labeled my file in the heraldry.gda as a .dss file instead of a .dds file. This is another example of being precise. I have spent hours and hours on this problem and all because of a simple spelling error on my part. On the plus side I do know alot more about alpha masks! Cheers.
