When did Kaidan complain about anything?

Kaidan literally says he doesn't want to be a whiner, and that he's moved on from the past and is focused on the mission (this is why the parallel with Jacob is drawn so much, because Jacob basically doesn't say anything about his past ever). Shepard has to keep questioning him about it before he opens up. It doesn't seem like an experience he was particularly proud of, you force him to tell you about it, and then you call him a whiner.

Hahaha, again, I think people would realize what dicks they were being if they reacted this way to people in real life.

"This is a safe place.  Relax on the couch and tell me about your relationship with your mother."

I agree with the Op, I too am tired of people saying that Characters that tell you there back stories are whinny. Kaidan himself said he got over it a long time ago, so technically he is not being a whiner. He just showing what it means to cut corners that he doesn't want that to happen to you.

I liked Kaidan, actually. He was a character I could relate to...had some hardship in his life...something happened to him that not many people can understand, but didn't let that hold him back, and he actually used it to become a great soldier.

There is a great interaction you can have with Samara. She is explaining all about her life, her daughters, Monrith, and a renegade response of "Cry me a river." comes up. Select it, and she says something like "I'm not looking for sympathy. You asked me so I'm telling you. If it bothers you, I'll stop." And she's right - you did ask.

I don't think he's a wimp. But I do think he lacks confidence in his conversations with Shep. That whole "Now they're dead. Shows what I know" line really irks me and just made his whole character uncharacteristically emo. Team's dead. Sulking's unprofessional for someone who's as cool as Garrus.

See, that's what I mean.

How is that line whining? He said, "Now they're dead. Shows what I know." And that's emo? How? I just don't understand. Two or three words of him reflecting on a past mistake is him being a drama queen?

Lol. This x400.

I may not like some characters, but none of them come across to me as whiners.

No no no, let me clarify. I don't think Garrus is a whiner. I don't think anybody in the game whines. But it just shows an uncharaceristic lack of confidence. I have a friend who romanced Garrus and she said he was too emo and should be more macho. I think it's because there's so much machismo in this game that, unless done properly, sensitivity can seem out-of-place.  You know what I mean?

Actually, I'm not sure why we're discussing this because I don't think anybody in the game is a whiner... Posted Image

I never called him a whiner or thought he was (Kaidan). You don't have to ask about his past. I always thought it was nice though he was up front about it with Shepard unlike Jacob the Clam. Can't say I was ever bored either, unlike Jacob's boring Daddy abandonment quest, I'd rather listen to Raphael Sbarge talk any day.

Okay, I think I see what you mean.

Well, Garrus got his whole team killed (he thinks) so that really would account for a drop in confidence - though I think that's the only time I saw anything that I could remotely call a drop in confidence, the way you mean. When I took him with me he was always the same badass he was before. He led my 2nd squad in the endgame.

It's just, I don't think it's right to call him emo, exactly. I mean, this  is emo.

Yeah, just that line taints his character for me. I don't know what my friend went through since I never played Femshep, but she would say he's emo.

The thing is, I absolutely hate when people call characters whiny. You asked them about their experiences, so it your fault that they are talking to you in a manner of speaking. Hell, I like most of the characters in the game, but I don't see them as whinny at all. I hardly call Kaidan whinny when he brings up Btat. He is telling you not to cut coroners. The thing I hate the most is people who say the humans are boring when they aren't boring at all. The only human I thought was boring was Jacob, because he never talked to you about their back story ect......

you are completely right, it is my fault Garrus is emo. I asked for him to be emo. Before I died and almost got shipped to the Harbinger early, I told Garrus "dude you need to become sooo emo"... Sooo I just got my wish.

I totally agree! You shouldn't complain about requested information.

I mean, you're right, here we are sitting in the forums talking about how Jacob was so boring because there as no background to his character, nothing to get from him, nothing special -

And then we turn around and say when there is  more to these characters, and they talk to us, they're whining.

Nigtwriter I agree people like that are the reason why we got Jacob in the first place. Hell I never thought the character's where whinny I thought they were well thought out.

You didn't ask him to be emo, but you did ask him to talk about what had happened to him.

AND GARRUS IS NOT EMO.

I am going to keep posting emo pictures and motivationals until everyone knows the difference!

It was a sharp contrast from his normal attitude, but I thought it was effective and appropriate.  I could empathize with why he would say something like that in his position.  But each to their own, I guess.
