My frame rate was great when I was just playing DAO (cd/dvd - region is North America) - it was updated to the lastest patch and it worked great. I then got awakenings (direct2drive) and played it and for the first bit of the game it worked great, then after a particular cutscene the frame rate went bad. I've been playing it on high detail  high texture and 1920x1080, widescreen 16:9 in full screen with vertical sync and frame-buffer effects. It all worked great up until after the cutscene. It started to go a bit slow -- then really slow! All my hardware is going fine from what I can tell.

If anyone is having similar problems and has a solution or just knowledge as to why this is happening, please fill me in.

What are your system specs? I assume you've tried playing around with the graphics settings also? Does this happen with any other game?

The 1.03 patch and/or Awakening have an issue where the game gets gradually slower the longer you play it. This was present in 1.02 as well, but some people have reported it got worse for them in 1.03. Strangely, the initial 1.03 update fixed most of the problem for me, but installing Awakening later on reintroduced it. Best you can do is restart the game after a while, or wait on a fix.

I went to finish Awakening as fast as I could because honestly I can't bear with the stagnant FPS drops and the constant restarting of DA after 1.03. I'm also hoping for a better patch to come along.

Having the same problem , but I've heard it's a Windows 7 issue and that may be true seeing how I've had the same problem playing "Stalker Call of Pripyat". Restarting's the only thing that fixes it that I've found. Or it could just be me.

I have the same problem.

After a cutscene at Vigil's I went out of the great hall and then in the rain I first noticed a major drop in framerate.

Now I don't have more than 9 to 14 fps regardless of whether my video settings are high (yes, 8 times AA) or low. In combats it's even less.

I played Origins with high settings and 4 times AA and now I can't even play with the lowest settings?! What has happened?

System:

Vista 32bit up-to-date

Intel E6600

ATi HD4850 (driver is up-to-date too)

3 (4) GB RAM DDR2-1000

I'm glad it's not just me. Sometimes it just dips temporarily, perhaps due to the complexity of the area, but at other times it doesn't recover and there's also a very noticeable lag when using the inventory, journal etc. Exiting and restarting it cures it (until the next time) but it does little for one's confidence.

Are you getting the drops after you play for a while, or do you get them in certain areas? Have you updated graphics/sound drivers recently? If so, try the previous driver

As soon as Awakening was installed, the FPS in some areas dropped excessively to the point that you had to second guess what your party is doing.

The worst area is outside Fort Draken then on the court yard on the last part of the game.

Now take a look at this (Fraps benchmark):

Low Settings:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg

271, 24952, 0, 18, 10.861

High Settings (4AA):

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg

299, 22644, 2, 22, 13.204

It's a joke, isn't it?

This occurs right from the very first second you're in-game and not after some hours played.
