For your second point, trhe Alliance and the council and almost everyone beleived you where dead. The only prson to make sure was liara and we already know about that.

As for them not being surprised, remember there was alot of rumors that Shepard was still alive and Ash/Kaidan found out by Anderson about the rumor. Also it's been two years and now all of a sudden the person you loved is back alive, but also working for Cerberus. Ash/Kaidan sayong "lets go" would be stupid and would not work. The point is, they will have very big parts in ME3 story.

There are also rumors that Elvis and Michael Jackson are not actually dead. Would it be surprising to most people if one of them came back from the dead? Of course.


And why would it not work? Do people hate shady organizations more than they love their partners?

That can't be the only reason, though.

If they really wanted to make Ashley/Kaidan and Liara playable squadmates but have them survive, all they needed to do was three things:

1. Have Kaidan/Ashley and Liara stay on the Normandy to help test the IFF with Joker (it is an artifact, after all)
2. Kaidan/Ashley get kidnapped because they're human, Liara gets kidnapped because she's a special Asari with eyebrows
3. Give the squadmates Dr. Chakwas-like immunity to liquefaction (they already have immunity to seeker swarms anyway...) and have them automatically escort everyone else back to the ship.

That means Dr. Chakwas, Ashley/Kaidan AND Liara are all guaranteed to survive for ME3, and they get to play significant roles in ME2 at the same time.

There were love interests in ME1? Really!?!



No, I'm not pissed at them. I expected it from Kaiden and Ashley, didn't expect Liara to be so drastically different though. I just feel sorry that someone chose to take that route with her instead of developing her former personality into a more mature one. That was my only problem really with the way she was before, she just seemed to young in personality for a 106 year old. Even if 100 years in Asari translates to 10 years in human years, 100 years of experience trumps 10 years of experience.

That's a better reason. But it's not as if the Reapers would not already a lot of those things, if not everything there was to know from the beacons and cipher. At most they'd indoctrinate her or something, I'd wager.

I'm not angry at the ME 1 LIs.

I'm angry at writers who apparently don't trust their abilities to write interesting characters and LIs, and feel the need to trash the old characters, just to make sure everyone loves the new ones.

I'm angry at developers who praise themselves to be great story tellers, but withhold the most basic dialogue choices, so that after two years my Shepard has to sit there like this and can say nothing whatsover to the LI.

I'm angry at the people who decided that ME 2 had to cater to new players and a different audience. I'm angry that they imposed a too early release date on top, so that virtually nothing from the first game could carry over in a meaningful way.

I didn't bother with any of the romances with either of my Shepard characters and I'd still rather have seen the ME1 characters get more significant parts to the Mass Effect 2 story.

No because he in fact can work the beacons and has the cipher. That right there is more valuable then Liara. Not to mention it was thanks to him, Wrex and Ash that the council did not get killed and the Reapers where delayed. Also the point that Harbinger whants Shepards body alot hsows he is very valuable.

Liara might know about the becons, but she can't work them or understand them, the only reason why she knew it was Illos because when she meld with Shepard, she saw the visions through his mind and he can understand it.

Liara was importent in ME, but only to get to Illos, thats it.
