Once all the little bits of information came together, I wasn't upset with Liara. I'm not upset with her now. It isn't even her fault as a character either, it's her writers.



Ashley and Kaidan fans got it much better then Liara fans. They got to talk with Joker and Kelly, they got an email, and they got a solid reason for their LI not returning. They won't work with Cerberus. That's a reason like it or not, and it's there, in your face. Shepard wouldn't work for Cerberus either, given the choice.



Liara's reasons you have to really look for, and we can only truly guess at the motives behind them. It's been a rollercoster ride for Liara fans since ME2 and that scene in her office. Then we had the poorly done comic, and all that. On top of that, Liara doesn't poof like Ash/Kai...she's there for the whole game, taunting you, haunting you, reminding you that she isn't coming with you...you can talk to her, but she doesn't say anything new...you run back to her after every new thing, hoping...the first playthru was torture.



I'm angry at BioWare if anything...the way they wanted to take the story, and how the wanted to cater the game to a new audience, at the expense of their fan base and those that truly liked the story in ME1.

I would not care if the LI got the shaft, as long as Garrus and Tali come back and Wrex again plays a big part then I am happy.

While I agree that Tali and Garrus are necessities to return, I think the ME1 LI fans should get something good in ME3.  Given that Ashley/Kaiden and Liara are GUARANTEED to survive and be in the game, I see no reason why the writers can't go all out with them.

Liara might know about the becons, but she can't work them or understand them, the only reason why she knew it was Illos because when she meld with Shepard, she saw the visions through his mind and he can understand it.

No one said Liara can't work the beacons or the cipher -- Shepard was just lucky enough to run into the first one on Eden Prime. Asari are much better at handling that type of technology.

The Council was not killed and the Reapers were delayed because of Shepard, Wrex, Ashley, Kaidan, Tali, Liara and Garrus. Wrex even tells you that he used his status to regain control of an entire planet. Liara recovered Shepard's body for Cerberus to use. Without Liara, there would be no Vigil and no Citadel data file, and there would be no Shepard resurrection.

Liara has the thickest plot armor right now -- even more than Miranda -- because she simply can't die. She's just as, if not more, valuable than Shepard.

Most likely all LI will be recruitable, you can't have a couple of them be recruitable and not the others.

Guess what, Tali and Garrus, and the rest of the crew, are dead, deal with it people. They'll have as small a part in ME3 as the LIs from ME1 had in ME2.

Valid point.  Though realistically, you could technically have them all as NPC's and make them equally awesome.  Though they'd have to do a serious retcon to explain where the hell everyone in my ME2 crew is going <_<

Which would be unfair to the ME2 party.  I'm not saying you're right or wrong here because I honestly don't know how it's going to pan out, but if the ME2 squadmates get shafted for the sake of being "fair," or because it's the easy way out, then it'll be actually be unfair to the ME2 fans.

Which will result in a whole bunch of overly smug and annoying ME1 LI fans going "WE TOLD YOU SO" and and a loss of respect for Bioware.

Garrus isn't returning in my games.  I wouldn't call the return necessary.

Still, no one's guarunteed at this point until someone from BW confirms it.

Thats what happens when you have no one survive or only one party member left. You need two to survive.

Bring Liara, Ash/Kaidan and the two people from ME2 and theres your squad.

The majority of the plot for Mass Effect 2 was recruiting all these characters- the best of the best, I sorely doubt that they are all going to get the shaft because they can be killed. On the contrary; I believe there will be some serious consequences for losing any of them.

On the flip side, they'd have to spend an equal amount of resources (if not more) creating new characters, finding new VA's, and STILL including cameo's for the potentially dead squadmates.  

I think the message is well established by now though; if Bioware takes the people we've gotten to know over two games and hundreds of hours of playtime and simply tosses them aside for the finale then they're simply ASKING to get hate mail.  

It basically comes down to whether or not Bioware can stomach the fact that some of their content may not be seen by people.  Though, in defense of that, players can literally skip about 50% of both ME1 and ME2, so Bioware has to be aware of the fact that there are some people who simply don't get to see everything.
