Shepard spends all of ME3 gathering allies, presenting data, building up everyone for the big fight against the Reapers. Only to wait...and wait....Decades pass, and "The big invasion" of the Reapers never comes. Old, bitter and discredited, Shepard eventually ends up on a box, next to the Mad Prophet on Omega, yelling at everyone "The Reapers are coming, we're all doomed! I've seen it, I have scans!'

Pan to the same scene that ended ME2...yes, the Reapers are on their way, but to immortal creatures like Reaper's what's a few centuries more or less? Harbinger's voice over then says "Remember, it is not the destination...it is the journey that is important."

Mass Effect 3 leaves loose ends and becomes an MMO.

Oh come on now lets be fair, I don't blame Bioware one bit for wanting to pretend KOTOR 2 didn't even happen because the story was utter sh*t.

KOTOR 2's story was awesome! If you wanna blame someone for the fact that the game was rushed and underdeveloped blame LucasArts. Obsidian's work deserves to be recognised.

This.

I find it funny how pretty much every single plot twist in the history of Earth is mentioned in this thread. I garuntee Bioware will be doing at least one of these, and frankly, I don't care.

Unless they pull an 'it was all a dream'. I would literally die.

At the end of Mass Effect 3 the council somehow manages to convince everyone in the galaxy that the reapers were geth, even the geth themselves agree, Therefore they have dissmissed the reaper claim. Also there wasnt enough evidence to support that they existed in the first place.

  • Jack is Miranda's sister (actually sounds plausible now that I think about it...)
  • Liara's father is [insert name of your favourite Asari]
  • The reapers were the only thing protecting us from the REAL threat in ME4...
  • The Geth are right and the Quarians are actually evil; Tali has been spying on you for years and sacrifices herself to save Shepard in a last ditch attempt at redemption.
  • The Reapers resurrect your dead crewmate from Vermire as a cyborg killing machine to hunt Shepard down.  Convince them to shoot themselves for extra paragon/renegade points.
  • The real Shepard died on Acuze/Torfin/Elysium; you're really his/her best friend Armand Tamzarian.
  • New heavy weapon released!  Makes blue and yellow portals...
  • TIM's long term plan to combat the Reapers:  assemble Voltron.
  • To cure a crewmate of indoctrination, Liara puts Shepard through the Asari mind meld, and the two of them spend five hours in a blurry dreamworld searching for powerups and fighting flaming geth.

The illusive man is actually a T100 reaper sent back in time to protect John Shepard from judgement day.

Shepard actually did have a control chip implemented within them. Miranda was the one operating it so when you deny TIM the base he expects Miranda to change your mind but she doesn't. You find this out in ME 3.

This is actually kinda awesome, shows how charismatic a leader Shepard is. Unless you find out by TIM turning it on and frying your brain... right before the end credits.

Shepard defeats TIM on a huge tower, then Shepard and Miranda runs out and see the tower fall out. Then Harbinger pops out of the remains and turns into Harbinger. Shepard defeats him and Miranda seals him in a void, then she teleports Shepard back to the past with evidence to stop Saren from ever contacting Nazzara and then the events never happen.

(Bonus points who knows what I am talking aobut,m tho it was a good ending for the game)

Shepard talking to the council: I have proof right here! THE REAPERS ARE REAL!
Turian Councilor: -snicker-
Shepard: This is serious!
Turian Councilor: ah yes -snicker- "reapers" we have dismissed this claim.
Asari Councilor: -bursts into laughter-
Shepard: what the hell is wrong with you?
Salarian Councilor: Shepard, there are no reapers.
Shepard on the verge of opening fire on the council: YES THERE ARE!
Saren, walking out from behind pillar: it's hard to believe how long you fell for it -holds mic up to mouth to sound like Harbinger- assuming direct control!
Turian councilor bursts into laughter.
Legion: We had suspicions.
Shepard, turning around to Legion: Than why the **** did you not tell me?
Legion:.... no data

Shepard was really an outgoing manifested personality that the real main character manifested to cope with a childhood tragedy. Their real personality only manifests itself when their LI is murdered in a horrific way.

Then they defeat the Reapers and go home, all alone and depressed.

The Reapers run out of take-over-planet fuel on the way to the Milky Way galaxy and turn back around and try again in another million years.

1. Shepard is actually a Reaper
2. Shepard dies again and is brought back again
3. Cerberus is working with the Reapers
4. If you die in the end of ME2 you come back as a clone
5. Something cliche like Shepard absolutely has to die to save the galaxy no matter what

The Illusive Man finally meets Shepard in person and offers him 2 cigarettes; a blue one and a red one. If Shepard takes the blue one, he will be brought back to before he was assigned to the Normandy SR1 in ME1, and if he chooses the red one, he wakes up to find that he, along with the rest of the galaxy's intelligent lifeforms, are serving as batteries for the Reapers.

Edit - Oops, someone has already referenced the same movie ... :P

It would be make the game if your body then turned into a giant reaper. Yet still have control of him as if he was a person on the normany.

I actually would be ok with a full-paragon ending in which Shepard sacrifices his or herself, but I would prefer that whole aspect to be along the lines of ME2, as in preparation and knowledge = survival for Shepard and their crew. In other words, I don't want the sacrifice to be mandatory, but if it does happen, it should be unrivaled in its heroism.

My theories:

1) Garrus becomes like Saren, in spite of any tutelage on Shepard's part.

2) The Council dismisses Shepard's warning of the Reapers until they arrive en masse in the Widow System (Citadel).

3) Shepard encounters surviving Protheans.

4) The decision to return the Heretic Geth to the main Collective (a paragon choice) is punished by the fact that the Geth turn on you at a moment of crisis, either because they agree with the Reapers, or the Reapers are able to hack them because of the Heretics' reintegration into the Collective).

5) A Virmire-survivor LI betrays you at a critical moment for hooking up with a ME2 LI, even though they act like an irrational jerk on Horizon, as for all intents and purposes they have moved on.
