Anyone Else Kinda Bummed About Mass Effect 3?

This also means that any decision you make that is going to have a consequence, will have to occur in ME3 because there is nothing after ME3 that your decisions could affect.
I will enjoy playing through Mass Effect 3, but I don't think I'll be able to help but be a little saddened that it's the end.

I really hope that they go all-out with the consequences in ME3. BioWare haven't exactly done a great job in most of their games with providing repercussions for your decisions before, but they've got a really great opportunity here and I really hope that they don't f*** it up. There's so many great places the finale can go with the decisions made in ME1 and ME2 in terms of new allies and enemies (i.e. end of ME2)/NPC's/entirely new quest hubs (i.e. getting an entirely new planet to explore if you've made a friend in Noveria) depending on your choices.
If the trilogy plays out almost the same depending on your choices, I will be disappointed as hell. In ME2 it was kind of understandable since it's the middle part of the franchise, but they need to end it with a bang.

Well we don't know what will happen yet. Perhaps BioWare have plans to write something which is set after Mass Effect 3, but with nothing to do with any of those characters.
But if it is the end of everything, yeah I can understand you being sad. Sometimes though its best to end on a real high, rather than milk the franchise until people despise it due to devs running out of ideas.
I personally hope the Mass Effect universe does continue, but not as we know it right now.

It won't end, I remember reading a few interviews on gaming sites saying the franchise would continue beyond ME3. Besides, the franchise is making lots of money, so there is really very little incentive to stop it.
Yes money is definitely a factor in keeping a series going. But having money doesn't always mean they will keep building excellent games. You could have a budget of 10 billion, but if the ideas are not there, it just won't work any more.
But yes Mass Effect could definitely continue past the 3rd game. Perhaps the trilogy is only for Shepards character. A type of trilogy for a certain character who gave the galaxy a longer existance. Or perhaps just a trilogy for this particular story.

Oh man I hope they make a Mass Effect 4. I don't think BioWare is the type of developer that would rush out sequels just to milk the franchise. I think they would be just as much hardcore, if not more, in each new continuation.

Yeah good point, I hope you're right. You have given me a glimmer of hope

I'm looking forward to ME3 precisely BECAUSE it's going to wrap things up. A lot of the imported decisions from ME1 to ME2 were really quite cosmetic. You get a few different dialogues, meet a few familiar faces here and there, but it's still almost exactly the same.

Yeah I know what you mean, but it's still nice to know that your actions from one game affect the next, even if the results are not significant. It makes it feel like your actions from each game have a bigger purpose.

The first three are based about one particular story, then the next could be a single story game, the next could be two game etc etc.
The are endless possabilities on what can happen aslong as the money and ideas are there.

There will be a collection of other games, possibly more traditional RPG style's where you pick a race etc, or even more combat based squad shooters now EA has some say. (This is not necessarily a bad thing, so no agro posts please.)
The Mass Effect lore is getting a pretty big collection behind it, so I imagine there could be quite a bit on the way after ME3.
Edit: Was meant to originally add that these games could be before events in Mass Effect, where pre-determined actions already took place. Such as liberation of Shanxi and so fourth, part of the squad that first encountered the Thresher Maws, the assault on Elysium, the Krogan Rebellions etc.

Anyways, I can see your point of view. I enjoy playing Mass Effect 2 again and even in a way Mass Effect 1 not knowing how some decisions will affect Mass Effect 3.
It will be kind of sad when I end Mass Effect 3 because it may kill the replaybility of the older games by knowing what happens at the end of the story. But I really hope that Bioware goes all out with Mass Effect 3 and adds a lot to the game with many branching paths and the trilogy goes out with a bang.

Mass Effect 3 wraps up the Shepard / Reaper story arch. But it's certainly not the end of the Mass Effect universe.

I can't picture Mass Effect without Commander Shepard though. It would seem so out of place. And I hope and pray it doesn't turn into a more traditional RPG. DA:O is there for that.
I would much prefer they continue with Shepard's story and create Mass Effect 4. I don't care if it deals with the reaper threat or not, but I would like to continue to play as my Shepard that I have created and played as through all the previous Mass Effect games. I love that feeling of playing as a character that you have molded into your own across multiple games.
Who knows. Maybe at the end of ME3 they could hint at the possiblity that the reaper threat, or a threat beyond the reapers, still exists. Something that implies, "Oh, it ain't over yet." They would need to enable plot hooks to ME4 though, which I really hope they do.

I REALLY want to see Bioware make a pirate-based RPG. With swordfighting and ships and tropical islands and thieving and shooting and all the piratey goodness! I think Bioware could make one hell of an awesome game with a pirate-setting.
Seriously...if Bioware announces a pirate-themed RPG then I will cry tears of joy.

I totally agree with this and I think Bioware would be well suited to making a pirate themed RPG.
