I bought it the day it released by preordering it and to this day have not played much after getting Arl Howls son I think it was as a partner. I am not bashing the game or anything just felt like you were droped in this big city and told to go to it and for the life of me i cant get in to this game. Note that I got MAX gammerscore on Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age orgins, and loved every bioware game to date.

When dose this game get fun, how long dose it take, is it even worth it, Orgins had a amazing story but this fells like nothing but your here do this and feels unimportant.

Awakening deserves a lot of the bashing, bugs and price mostly. Secondary bashing is the new dialog system which means you really can't talk to most your characters without jumping through hoops.

That said, the story isn't so bad. I like the new skills and powers, and I think the new dwarf gal is a great character, and her alone would have been worth a 8 buck DLC if there was more dialog.

So, you already got past the biggest hurdle, you paid too much for an expansion, just enjoy it. I nitpick at stuff, but really it was a decent game, the story takes off, and if you work at the character interaction they are interesting to. I admit I don't know why they made it so hard to find the character interesting but still worth playing since you already own it.

I thought price wise it was fine, I paid £15 for the PC version which I thought was spot on, are the console versions expensive?

I found it very buggy mind and the new dialogue system is something I'm not fond of, having to journey back to areas you've already cleared to talk to people that weren't in your group the first time. Who thought that was a good idea?

For me it's not funny ( I played it only twice). The most important thing is that I don't feel continuity. The second thing ( important for me) Im unable to build any relationships with new companions thanks to new conversation system. There are also some bugs in game. Ending is silly, I feel like something is cut off..So I kept Awakening only for new skills it's added to my OC via mod and I don't play it anymore...But it's only my personal opinion, so maybe You will find fun playing this expansion? :)

If I had a euro for every whine post on this forum, I would be a millionaire now! How about trying to do something else than constant whining all the time?

Awakening is a nice expansion IMO. Of course I'd have loved it to be much bigger and detailed, but it's alright as it is, and the new powers are amazing and fit my char nicely.

Maybe my biggest dissapointment are the character personalities. They're so...austere...they could have been much better, especially chars with such potential as Sigrun and Justice.

And for the OP, I had fun with Awakening since the first minute I've played it...:P

I'm playing it and enjoy... despite the bugs, but I'have been happy in this area for now, and didn't get problem with having some armor set and getting some companion and more.

I haven't finish and don't know if it's fake mechanism or not but I believe in it, a post seems link an article covering the subject: Awakening: From Grey Warden to Grey Eminence. The game succeed for now to make me beleive that many decisions are important and can have imortant consequences.

I would not like that many CRPG use such approach, puting you in the skin of a general more than an exceptional soldier but for a change it's very nice.

For the companion dialogs i just explained it in another thread, for me DAO system is wrong and only build a parallal game not at all merged to the real gameplay and that's a bad appraoch. DAA approach is better but still flawed because it is poluted by the useless relationship points system pushing you too much to reload and try.

Its not that I was just wondering if the expansion got fun at all Iv tryed on manny ocasions to get in to it, but Ill start playing attempt to do a quest just to get so bored I pop in something else. Mabye I just more fond of Mass Effect or just killed the games appeal when I did everything Orgins had to offer IMO Awakening is just not fun for me

obviously they changed the talking system because people would try to click on chests and have to open a dialogue box with a char by accident.and i for one loved the story and ending now i plan on making a new warden to see how it is..next Expansion should be an adventure with the quenari another continent would make sense for the heroes Disappearance as well as a chance to reunite with sten with epic battle scenes which made origins so appealing and it opens awhole new area of possibilities story an legends wise maybe an ancention like Andraste to finish the legend of the hero of origins. an you people complain way to much just be happy it isn't as linear or as predictable remake as square enix games are.

Played it and loved it. It's everything I expected from an expansion pack.

The worst parts of Awakening is that the beginning and the end are too abrupt. I can understand that they felt forced to make the introduction a bit short, because they would have contacted a lot of voice actors for the old characters for cameo's in the beginning explaining why they didn't come with you, but I think thay could have done maybe al ittle more. A letter from your lover or maybe a panel or two in the beginning with some explanations specific to your character.

The actual story is good, the parts where you are holding court and make decisions as leader of Amaranthine was great. The new companions are on the whole very nicely done. Sigrun and Anders especially. Once I got used to it, I realized that you get alomst as much interaction with the new ones as with the old companions, but you have less control over when you get to talk with them.

There are some annoying bugs, that means you more or less need to check a guide to do all copmanion quests as some of them becomes unavailable if you do things in the wrong order.

On the whole my only gripe is that Awakening is a good game, but it could have been really great with a few extra weeks of QA.

I just don't understand how people can not like Awakening. I thought it was pretty fun.

Story line was awesome, its the talking with companions and shortness and high price that peed my off. I paid 27 quid for my 360 copy and even when dragging it out it only took me 12 hours to complete fully

Awakening can be fun when you observe the following rules:
  • Before entering a certain mine: get naked!
  • Never give a gift to your companions directly after aquiring them.
  • Don't talk to Constable Aidan or the Shady Character until you have finished Sigrun's quest.
  • Do "Shadows of the Blackmarsh" AFTER "The Righteous Path" and "Last of the Legion"
  • Before using a Manual of Focus: get naked!
  • Use my mod to fix the runes on PC :P
More details on the bugs would spoil the game...

[*]Can you PM me the details behind these suggestions, I'm curious about them. I knew about the mine that you mentioned but I'd like to learn about the rest so I can be forewarned before my next Awakening playthrough.

it doesnt, i havent experienced many bug problems like many apparently have done but still i can say it doesnt get fun. the most fun of any RPG games- the character interactions, talking with your party learning about them and changing them depending on your conversations is completely gone.

im glad i got to explore more of the dragon age world albeit a very small piece but still the expansion is not fun in any way

I'm wondering when Awakening is supposed to get fun too. My problem so far is that I not only feel like there are serious continuity problems, but outright Jossing of canon in Awakening, combined with stuff that just doesn't make sense. For example:
  • Whatever encryption algorithm Riordan used on the Grey Warden documents must be pretty bad, because apparently everyone and their grandmother now knows what the Joining involves. In Origins, it was such a big secret that the Warden doesn't even know that it exists until Duncan casually mentions it when they get to Ostagar. Along the same lines, I understand that Varel does the Joining because he has a voice actor and the PC doesn't, but how hard would it have been to say that he became a Warden sometime in the six months between the end of Origins and the beginning of Awakening? It's especially mystifying because when you ask him about Kristoff, he says, "The Wardens keep their own counsel." Except in matters dealing with the Order's big secret ritual, it seems.
  • The Warden's origin suddenly stops mattering. Yes, you're the Hero of Ferelden, but I'm playing through with my Tabris girl, and elves--especially Alienage elves--are the third-class citizens of Thedas. That's not going to change in six months. The only NPC who's even seemed to notice my race is the inkeeper at the Crown and Lion, who has a throwaway "Oh, you're an elf" line. None of the nobles balk outwardly at swearing fealty to a woman most of them probably think should be scrubbing their floors. Considering that at least one raises objections to the Orlesian Warden Commander, this seems very out of place to me. I also noticed this disconnect in the companion dialogue. My city elf saying that she "doesn't know much about human religion"? Nathaniel doesn't have any problems taking orders from an elf? No option to tear Velanna a new one when she sneers that my Tabris girl "knows nothing of injustice?"
  • I dislike the new dialogue system in general, although I think that's only partly the fear that I'm going to miss an important conversation by failing to click on the appropriate random object. The real problem is that I don't care, because in contrast to the incredibly three-dimensional, complex companions of Origins, the Awakening crew doesn't seem to be very well fleshed out. Granted, I've only picked up four of them, but the only one I find really interesting is Anders--and I'm always very aware that he's taking the "snarky blond guy" spot previously occupied by Alistair.
  • ....which is yet another continuity issue. I understand that getting all the voice actors back for more than brief cameos would be a nightmare. But why take out the letters from Leliana and Zevran? Why not have an acknowledgement of the Alistair romance if you didn't make him king? And if you're going to have him show up, why can't it make a little more sense than having him walk to Amaranthine from Denerim in full armor with a contingent of guards in the pouring rain, and then turn around and leave five minutes later?  I'd rather have had a letter waiting for me than to have him there and gone in a way that defies logic.
Between the bugs, and the sketchy character development, and the awkwardly paced plot, Awakening feels very rushed to me. And I might not mind as much if I hadn't paid just as much for it as I did for Origins.

I agree. Awakenings was a disappointment for me. It seems to lack something that was there in Origins. There does seem to be less interaction with the companions. The companions don't seem to feel as real as they do in Origins. The story line is not as interesting as in Origins either.

One thing I do wish Bioware would consider in future expansions and that is making the game open ended. Let me fall off a cliff if I misstep. LET ME JUMP. I couldn't believe that I could not jump. That is one thing that ES4 (Elder Scrolls) has over Dragon Age. You can roam where you like and are not forced to follow a predetermined path. Maybe that will happen in future expansions of Dragon Age, although they have to do a lot better with the next one if they want to keep the series alive.

I haven't got too far in just yet, so far it seems so ho-hum. I am getting flash backs of what Obsidian did to KOTOR. The first game was amazing, the second installation was blah. I do agree that the lore continuity is very poorly done here. I would much rather have seen this "campaign" setup by just expanding the initial game. Where you still have full access to the old world maps and areas, but it unlocks the new stuff similar to downloading the premium content.

I also find the lack of the strong interaction with your team NPCs to be a poorly made choice. No we didn't have to have raunchy sex scenes again, but the old features really took the game to the next level. I do like that you get to see some of your old team members again, but what of old relationships with people who aren't included? It just seems things went into a time wap for 6 months and no filler was provided.

It is probably much to late to redo any of this, but hopefully when DA2 comes out early next year they re-think what they did and go back to the style of the original. Was the price too high for Awakening? Eh. Too late now. It would be nice though if some patches down the line add in some free content to help connect the two story lines or reintroduce the relationships/old team members into the mix.
