I hope the great people at Bioware have something more interesting in store for us and perhaps someone already sprouted this theory on the forum. Ah well, here it goes.

There are organics behind the Reapers - perhaps just one - and they use the Reapers to keep themselves alive. They see themselves as the pinnacle of evolution, because they have found some way to maintain their lives for eternity (by using the harvested material of the Reapers). If you were to go to dark space in ME3, to kill that that thing or race, I would be a bit disappointed.
Couldn't this possibly be true? I just thought of it while laying in bed -_-.

In short: there are organics behind the Reapers and they use them to maintain their eternal civilization.

PS. Don't shoot me if this can't be due to some lore stuff. I read everything there is and I would be happy to know why this couldn't possibly happen.

E: I hate you, Word.

Certainly possible, but it's more likely that the Reapers use organic building materiel to obtain (ridiculously powerful) biotic abilities. It feels more in line with the "mythos" behind the setting with the Mass Effect phenomena and its central role in galactic civilisation.

True. I would like a plausible explanation for the indoctrination or have I just missed that somewhere along the way?

mah in me2 it seem that reapers look to various advanced races as candidates for "reproduction"

it could be that they let a life form develope up to a certain level and if "worthy" and "compatible" they include it in their "evolution"

they are building a human reaper, they tried to build a protean reaper... it seem to me a process not that dissimilar to the one of the asari, who seek out parthners of different species to diversificate their traits and evolve

about who reapers are/built them... who knows... maybe they rebelled as geths did (geths are probably going to be new reapers if not stopped), maybe they where built with the to find "worthy" living creature and to preserve/studing them (think as a sort of borg from ST)

That's a plausible explanation. They use the resources to improve and maintain themselves, but they eradicate life (like the Geth perhaps) to keep their own race safe. I hope for something more mindblowing though :).

Aside from a solution only the author can create, telling them to leave in some argument, a la Babylon 5 style doesn't seem the most probable.

If the idea is to stop a cybernetic million year old species, there would have to be a singular idea or concept, that if brought down would destroy the rest (e.g. a Reaper queen or a central hub-mind, poisoning their blood, etc.)  However, what we know of Reapers is they are a "nation unto themselves", so it has to be something physical.  We know Reapers by nature can warp reality/minds to their will, even if dead.  So some kind of hive-mind-virus-argument, where Shepard still has to pump everything full of bullets.  Although I can definitely see a slowly developed/upgraded weapon only Shepard can use.

If bioware does anything like this anime show for your theory I'm going to get pizzed. Posted Image

This was kind of like your theory at the end of the show, but it was way to out there. I hope Bioware keeps the story in the making sense kind of fashion. Posted Image

They should just include time travel and Super Saiyans. That way you can justify any ending.

well time travel is not that far off, it is actually possible and open up some interesting scenarios...

eg... how about if reapers are the geths? it seem that geths are building by themself their own reaper to download all of them into it... what if that was the first reaper and the geth, when the universe was out of resources traveled back to the past? this could make also possible to "dispatch" them just destroying that "prototype" causing a temporal paradox (this way you have not to destroy the invincible reaper fleet)

more "tame" option can be a virus or something like that, it seem that reapers are almost as geths just on bigger scale with probably millions of programs uploaded in every single reaper, as you get a virus that can modify the geths on their base i dont see why you cant build something similar for the reapers

I don't like this theory at all. The Reapers made themselves out to be the perfect race, slave masters and thrall to no one, each one independent and each one a nation.

Well let's see our options.

The Babylon 5 solution
- Tell the alien horde to go away, and they do.

The Stargate solution
- Find the newest ultra-super-mega weapon of the week and kill all the bad guys that way.

The Battlestar Galactica solution
- God kills the Reapers

Ah! Not a Word problem. A Bioware social site problem. Copy and paste is glitchy.

Whenever you copy and paste something into your message box, click the BB Code button at the top of your task bar.

This will show you the way your text is going to appear on the forums after you submit it, with that messed up format, or that weird stuff that looks like this:

Normal

false

false

Fix it, click the BB Code button again, and then post.

Let's keep the pressure on those writers >:D. I think they already wrote the whole arc before they finished ME1. That's how writers do that stuff. Right?

E: I made the title somewhat more mainstream.

It's a good idea to, yes. Less rewriting and maneuvering involved if you have things planned out.

Not George Lucas, he wrote one by one... (and ity took him 30 years!!!) that's why there are lots of holes in the middle... like what happened between here and here, and why does this make absolutely no sense if you watched the first movie.... you feel me, because I dont.

Also the Star Trek ending: Red Shirt dies, and the ending was so complicated you stayed looking three days in wikipedia and google searching for what those complex words meant. Then you get a new series after you believed it to die... and so on in a 20 year circle.

True.
There's also..

The Outer Limits solution
- Reapers win, everyone dies. We get a 5 minute monologue by the narrator on why humans suck.

The Star Trek Voyager solution
- Shepard comes from the future bringing the supertechnology needed to defeat the Reapers.

The Lexx solution
- Everybody just has sex with everyone and be generally weird and things resolve anyway. Kelly would approve.

The War of the Worlds solution
- All the Reapers catch a cold and die.

The WarGames solution
- Strange game. The only winning move is not to play. Unfortunately this requires ME3 to bomb and BioWare to go bankrupt.

The Capcom Infinite Sequalization Initiative
- Extend the impending confrontation with the Reapers indefinitely or repeat it ad nauseum. By the time of Mass Effect 8 when everybody has realised they've been playing the same game for a decade, announce that Mass Effect 9 will be a copy of Mass Effect 1 for "classic gamers"

Hi Angry!

The game ends with a chess match between Legion and Mordin.

legion said that we should find our own path (our own technology) apart from the reapers and the mass effect. got any good ideas of new plausible tech that would beat the reaper's mass effect?

the best i've seen on posts and thought of so far would be to use the mass effect in more creative ways to defeat reapers... (like encasing dark matter in a mass effect field so you destroy a reaper with one blow)...

Legion: "Currently, 786 processes believe that you have used an illegal move, the rest are undecided. However 12 are currently pushing for this platform to smash this chess board over your head."

Mordin: "Hmm.. Geth hard to play chess with. Always insist their moves right, my moves wrong. Unsporting. Theorise perhaps excessive time spent trolling on organic networks gives Geth sense of self-entitlement. Interesting."

I support the Lexx solution.

I'm hoping Kai is involved.
