Much like the traveling couple designs that I posted this is another result from a concept that I would like to call commoner characters. They are not fearless and valiant heroes risking it all to save the world from darkspawn, but rather normal residents of Fereldon who have their own encounters to experience and their own stories to tell amidst all the chaos from the approaching blight.



This is Elliot, a castle guard for the Arl of Denerim. He is not a particularly impressive individual but he is compassionate and governs his life by his strong personal sense of morality. While making his normal rounds throughout the castle he took notice of some elf maidens being dragged about by the Arl of Denerim's son and his personal guards. One in particular was dragged off separately and he decided to see what was happening. He came to discover her being ravaged by his fellow castle guards and in an act of justice he threw himself into the fray rescuing her and pummeling his peers in the process. He was later disbanded from the castle but did not regret his decision to follow his morals and do what was right.



Elliot





Darma is a timid and self conscious woman who was abducted by the Arl of Denerim's son and his guards during the double wedding of her acquaintances Soris and Kallian. She is passive and has never been one to stand up for herself due to her considerate and soft spoken nature. After seeing the extent Elliot went to in order to rescue her by putting his own reputation on the line she decided to stay by his side and be there for him just as he was there for her.

@ Zeleen, Wyona..... is very scary! I can indeed understand she feels lonely due to those running away from her while she tries to help.
@ AvatarHunter, Elliot reminds me of Fergus somehow! He's quite handsome if I say so myself hehe. Darma, I like her as well. I can indeed imagine her as passive. It's sweet how she stays at his side for what he's done for her.

@Angelsdawn Meiaveth's hairstyle/color choice seem somewhat similar to Leliana but as far as her appearance based off her description I think you did well in capturing that fiery and cocky attitude just fine.  I especially like the arch of her brow and the subtle smirk.

@badboy64 Ah yet another personal companion rendition, it is still very interesting to me just how different everyone's outlook of the companions are. Her face looks very personalized and is very much a product of your own tastes and views.

@Neveri The thing that stands out to me the most about Adria is her strong presence and confident gaze. Certainly an individual who finishes whatever they start and lets no one halt her progress. Nice take on the enigmatic lady hawke.

@Starlight I swear if we all keep following your lead as well as a few certain individuals who really made the most of implementing back stories I think this thread will slowly transform into a fanfic showcase lol. I for one am quite inspired by it being the reason I add it into a lot of my designs as of late. I like how you let the story sort of govern the appearance of your characters, it seems like a more stress free way to generate an idea for the look of your characters and makes you pay more attention to how well they are made in comparison to their descriptions.

@madmaxx007 While lighting can really make the difference when it comes to pics it is still easy to see that Dimitri is a good structured character. I think you got the deceptive look across more so with the shape of his eyes and eyebrows but the red eyes themselves were a nice touch aesthetically speaking.

@Zeleen Oh noes you've been pulled over towards the dark side as well I huh? Ah well it made for a delightfully ghoulish character, it looks like you had some fun with the skin textures

@Avatarhunter: You often talk as if you're NOT one of the people who are crazy-**** awesome when it comes to BG stories then post such heartfelt tales:wub::wub: Elliot and Darma's story is very touching. and you've proved that common people can be seriously cool:) Darma does look timid, but it's good to know she chose a good man like Elliot<3 And Elliot seems the type of guy that is wickedly awesome but always underrated, though he'll get a lot of love from us<3 For some reason he reminds me of Neil Patrick Harris.

@Zeleen: Poor Wyona:crying: And you have a lot of stamina going back so far to comment:wizard: And for Miki I used Shape 2 heavily and slightly fat lips with a dowward arc. I'm adding her to my preset mod right now btw.

@Starlight: Gelithel looks cool with the nice BG co-ordination, but his tattoo make me go It's like overeating ice cream or writing in a white page with white pen (sorry I'm not very good at examples). His tatto color, though matching with the rest of him, is too intense and not pleasing to the eye.
Another dark story! Aron makes me shiver,his gentle look coupled with the creepy smirk is scary:crying: And hw did you get the extremely bloody screens? Lohem sfits his role perfectly, the only thing I'd recommend is a little squint.

@Zeleen, Wyona is..way scary looking. No offence to her, but I'd probably run from her as well. She does look rather sad, though. Excellent work!

@AvatarHunter, you know, I really love how you're making the more normal characters with other problems than just yanno, blight's and stuff.
- Elliot looks like such a sweet young man, and I agree with Nowshin that he kind of looks like Neil Patrick Harris, I think it's the eyes. He is rather handsome, really.
- Darma reminds me of a bird, and not in the way that she looks like a bird, but she has a certain nervous and careful look about her, she's lovely.

@Nowshin, you know, Rin does look like a mischievous little elf lady. She is lovely, though.
- Ilya is very pretty, and I love the location of the shot, it fits her perfectly. I also really like her eyes.

@Chairon de Celeste, that shot of Mythalle stabbing is rather awesome!


Been a while since I made a dwarf, and this thread needs more dwarves! So, here is Margit, a dwarven commoner. She's clever, although she's got no patience at all and prefers to 'stab first and ask questions later, if target is still alive and capable of speech'.

And, as much as I love the dark and down right creepy characters around here lately, I wanted to make something a tad more softer. So I made Maren, a kind and sweet city elf. She's not naive nor stupid, though, she knows the life of the Alienage is a hard one, and would not hesitate to defend herself if it came to that.

The dalish are scary Ilya is an odd one.

Well remember Aron the confused priest? He grew up He and Moira, the weirdest blood mage who tries to use blood magic to help people, escorted the lotherign refugees to Denerim, and the two of them forged a strange connection while on the road. After reaching safety, Moira tried to take off, but Aron decided to tag along with his newfound friend. When asked he only said that an insane woman like her needed someone to protect her from herself, but does a priest give up his path and follow a blood mage, of all people, if there wasn't anything more?(Notice the smug smirk, that person is no longer a virgin )



Now that he has to travel with her (who attracts templars like honey attracts bees with her recklessness at using magic), he has had to learn some basic weapon training. The subtle scar on his face is from such an encounter with tempies:innocent:

@Nowshin Thanks I appreciate the comments, it is good to know that I'm moving in the right direction with my ideas. Just as everyone seems to like bad boys we like bad girls too and the shoe certainly fits for Rin in that sense. Fantastic shot location for Ilya's pic and design, it is a nicely executed composition as a whole. Interesting thought you had to make her a peace seeking Dalish since it contradicts the normal outlook of them but I do recall a Dalish npc from The Nature of The Beast quest mentioning that they are all not as hostile as people perceive them to be so your idea is relevant to me.

@Neveri Glad to hear your feedback and thank you I am having a lot of fun with this concept and it has become very easy for me to expand on it and generate new ideas. I almost feel it may become something of a staple aspect to my style since these are the type of characters that interest me. I think you left little to no room for error on both Margit and Maren, their appearances are well put together and their personalities are intact and apparent in relationship to their background and what you would expect from someone in thier position within normal society. I also second your notion to occupy the vacant space that should be filled by dwarfs.

I have been feeling really inspired and in the zone lately playing around with different ideas and polishing up the ones that I like. Here are a few characters from one of my newer designs.

This is Logen, his wife Jillian, and his nephew and beloved pupil Detrick. He is a well renowned swordsman and travels the world honing his skills and exploring new places. He is a kind and knowledgeable man who is well mannered and does not hesitate to do what needs to be done. He looks upon Detrick as his own son and has always been something of a father figure to him during his younger years when his father passed.

Logen


Jillian is a headstrong and confident woman who is poised in dire situations and is more capable of defending herself then one might think at first glance. She is the sister of Detrick's father and helped raise him. Logen thinks highly of her and believes there is no other woman who can take her place by his side.

Detrick is a serious and intelligent young man who is eager to learn and good at assessing bad situations as well as people. He is also exceptional in dual wielding swords thanks to his training with Logen. He has always looked up to Logen as a mentor and a role model and hopes to gain more knowledge about the ways of the world and swordplay from him while on their travels.

@Avatarhunter: I'm always awed by how each one your characters look so unique and have a distinct air about them. Me, if I try to follow a certain goal (in most cases good looking pretty boys ) I end up making all of them look the same. But you're awesome Logen has got the stern warrior look going without looking unkind, and Jilian seems like the type of Lady who does not take s**t from anyone. They're both great, but me being me, I adore Detrick. :wub::wub:He looks so fresh faced and hot but still has serious and determined look.

@Neveri: Margit's expression is pure win. And Moren is so adorable that it's a crime<3<3<3 I love how you combined softness and determination in her look:wub:

Yes it was intentional. Realistically every guy's facial hair grows differently and not in just one typical or uniform look and I was trying to emphasize that fact by making it bolder in certain places. I don't find it distracting it just mimicry of reality as far as I am concerned.

@ Neveri: Thank you for your comments on the Hugo, Norma, Kenny and Normen. I enjoy making them as well.

Margit looks quick-tempered and her facial expression gives out her character well.

Maren looks kind and pretty. Though I like Margit more. Bad girls rules!

@ badboy64: Although the mage still resemble Morrigan, you could change some details to distinguish her from Morrigan. Keep up the good work!

@ madmaxx007: If you find the lighting isn't good enough, you could try highlight the character with the mouse. It will lighten up the character a bit. It usually helps though in your case the blonde will be over-exposed and become white. Maybe you could try change the hair color to a darker one, e.g. bn3 or bn4?

@ Zeleen: Wyona is impressive! She is deformed and looks as if she has been drained of life force. Nice! Is that a custom skin texture used?

And thank you for the comment on Iarrus. I wish he could unite with his family as well.

@ kgaustad: Thank you for your compliment. Even if you have only got the XBox version, you could still use the CC to create different morphs. There are serveral creative minds here who only use CC as well.

@ LadyAly: Thank you for your compliement. Maybe that's because I keep making morphs frequently which help me polish the skills?

@ AvatarHunter: Eillot looks good! He is just an "ordinary" guy around and he looks humble! I appreaciate your skills of making "ordinary" while unqiue characters.

And thank you for your compliment on the background stories I have written. I'm quite a dreamer myself. When I start making morphs, some ideas has already come into my mind for who they may have been. You have written great background stories for the characters as well.

Wow....more nice characters while I'm still typing this post. They are all depicted well (especially with the interesting background stories). Detrick is really handsome.

@ CdC: the screenshots of Mythalle is really neat!

@ Dalira Montanti: The screenshots is a bit too small to see any details about her. Do you mind to post a larger and close-up screenshot of her?

@ Nowshin: Well, I put on the shining tattoo onto Gelithel because I want to emphaize that it is magical. Maybe that's the different taste on expressing idea.

Thank you that you enjoy the dark tales of Aaron. The bloodied face and clothing are actually some custom skin and clothing textures I have created originally for some undead createures. I can send them to you if you want.

Rin and Ilya are really neat! Rin does looks harsh and Ilya is nice. They really fulfill the description you have given them.

Aron "grown-up" is quite a change from the previous naive and optimistic boy. A thumb up for him!

Here comes the Ogres!

Ogres are some legendary creatures in Theda's lore. Some legends says they are ugly, fierce, savage and unintelligent at all. Actually, they are shy and like to keep to themselves. However, with their somewhat ugly appearance they are being misunderstood and discriminated. That is the main reason why they live in unreachable and remote locations. They just want some peace.

Morcha
The house Morcha is one of the major house in the old days. However, after lost their Thaigs to Darkspawns, the status of the house quickly diminish. Now, his family can barely hold a small apartments in Diamond District. They teach him to stay strong and never lose his pride. He struggle to work within the polictics in Orzammer and hope that one day, the former glory of the house will be restored.


Tim and Alex
Tim and Alex are living in Denerim and they are best friends all along. Though there is something different in Alex - he thinks he is born in wrong gender. He doesn't interested in boy's clothing and he only feel rights when wearing dresses. Because of that, he has been made fond and harassed  by other children. Each time Tim helps to defend and save him. Alex is really grateful to have such a loyal friend along.

I try to create an alternative Abomination other than the canon one. I use the texture of Ash Wraith as the skin texture.


Ron
Ron was in a better shape when he was young. Ron and his wife has married for almost 10 years and have several childs. Working as a blacksmith he can keep his family well-feed and happy. His wife always claims she was tricked by his good-looking appearance at first and now he ends up being an overweight man. Well, if she doesn't say it with a smile, it may be more convincing. Now Ron is happy and content with his life.
