I have a question - I'm working on a morph for my friend, a male elf. He should have those braids like Sten, without skin coming through. This is WIP:


I know the code: em_har_hd4a_2
But I can't find out which hair mod it is. It's obviously not vanilla, as my friend couldn't find it. Does anyone here know which mod it is?

Haha, you had me searching there for awhile Klidi! Then I realized that what you have there is the "lod2", or middling view range hair appearance. Hairstyles typically have 3 different forms, each displayed at different visual ranges, and each labeled with the ending digit of 0, 2, or 3. In other words, each is part of the same hairstyle, even though each appears different; you'll notice that any "_2" or "_3" hairs have remarkably less detail than the "_0" form. I believe this is the method used to take some of the load off the game engine, by not having to render full detail at longer visual ranges. The original hairstyle is just "em_har_hd4a_0", and it's part of the default game texture pack.

What you see on my saucy elf there is the combination of Practical Female Dalish Armor by honestRope, and XT Slender Light Armor Form by Xelte; the key is to place the latter mod deeper into your override directory. The first mod, while nice in of itself, uses the default elf female body form...which I find a lil too spare-tireish around the belly for the supposedly trim Dalish hunters, lol.

I like your Ashara and Surana; you can prolly tell by now that I have a thing for the dark beauties, heh.

@ devlog - oh, I'm sorry! *blushes* I know nothing about toolset, except making morphs. But now I don't understand why my friend can't see it... weird.
Surana was my attempt at an androgynous elf - they're also from my friend's fanfic, a twin brother and sister, who look exactly the same. So there are in fact two dark beauties on that picture.

@ AbsoluteApril - yes, it's the toolset. You should try it, it's much easier than it seems.

@ Blazomancer - she's lovely! I like the contrasts, pale skin/dark makeup and pink hair/blue eyes.

@ LadyAly - I like how she looks so sweet and innocent - and then you notice those piercing eyes...

@LadyAly--Cute freckles on the fem.:happy: I like the dwarf, too; somehow I think a tattoo would fit him even more nicely.

@Klidi--When in the DA Toolset, when selecting "Hair", look for the dropdown arrowbox under "Filter" in the "Resource Open/Save" popup; choosing "All Model Files" will bring up alphabetically every model file you currently have installed, including the (LOD)_2 and _3 versions of hairs.

Haha, The Pearl is getting some better stock, it seems. Marjolaine must have fallen on some hard times if she's working there now though, lol.

No, Marjolaine is not working in the Pearl. I just wanted to try to make an elderly prostitute and an elderly bard - in my headcanon, Marjolaine is much older than Leliana, a sort of mother figure for her.

Both your Leliana and Marjolaine are beautiful. Are those your own textures?

Time and aging can be difficult to guage in Dragon Age; I guess that was done to entertain open-ended ideas. Funny example is that when you pull up the Cousland character profiles in the toolset, it lists the parents as 40, the PC at 20, and the older brother Fergus at 30; does that mean mother Cousland was pregnant at age 10, lol? I went ahead and created the parents to be in their late 40s-early 50s, with Fergus being in his late 20s. In the above example, Leliana and Marjolaine's adventure takes place "some" years before the events in DAO(I'm guessing 5 or 6 years). According to the toolset data, Marjolaine is about 10 years senior to Leliana; but again, it's anyones' guess really, so I put her closer to 6 or 7 years older. Oh, the only texture of mine in the above picture is of Marjolaine's eyes.

I forgot to mention another weird DAO time thing: In the Human Noble origin story, the PC ultimately escapes from the family home with Duncan before it is overrun. Your older brother Fergus had left with a large contingent of your father's soldiers only several hours before you escape; armies tend to move pretty slowly when there are servants, supplies, and other support items than an army needs moving along with them. Somehow, not only does the PC(who is just travelling lightly with Duncan) not catch up with Fergus, but the latter has managed to arrive at Ostagar, setup his army camp(which could take hours by itself), and go deep into the field with his soldiers before the PC even gets there. I suppose that you could have made the entire journey on foot, but somehow I'm thinking that Duncan's strong desire to reach Ostagar quickly would logically entail getting some horses along the way. Strange, huh?

Yes, Fergus's story doesn't make any sense. As a son of a Teyrn, he would be one of the higher officers - he wouldn't be sent out as a common scout...
And ages in the toolset... I had to laugh when I found out that Sten was only 30. He looks at least 50. Or Zev - 24? With that face? Sometimes I have a feeling that the designers were much like my Surana, who thinks that everyone above 21 is OLD. But at least I had an excuse to make both of them look much younger.

@Klidi~ Fergus must have peed in Cailan's cherrios big time to be sent out on part of a scouting party... that always baffled me as well or.... Seeing as how Loghain and Howe were thick as theives, I am sure that Fergus was set up to fail, and Loghain was pretty surprised to see the youngest Cousland (if that was your origin) arrive at Ostagar. As far as your characters go, you have so many! I don't know who I like best. I think I like Joss best, maybe with some refinements if you are still working on her. She is really beautiful. How does that hairstyle play in game?

Mulch~ Macha looks like someone I have seen before. Did you have some inspiration for her? I am not thinking that she looks like another character I have seen on the thread or anything, she just seems familiar. I like always like the fair skin/dark eye hair combo, and the choice of back ground really compliments her.

Dev~ I love your version of Marjolaine. The short haircut on Leliana also fits in nicely with the lore of the Dlc.

LadyAly~ Thorben, looks incredibly tough. But I also see a kindness in his eyes, maybe it is the lighter hazelish color? Anyways nice job. And I love your pigtailed Helga, freckles are a nice touch.

Blazomancer~ Like your warrior/archer.  Never tried that particular combo.  Interesting choices for that charcter, but they work for her.  She looks like she has an interesting story to tell, and beautiful eyes as well.  Also Morrigan in the background glaring daggers into her back.

Lady~ I remember this morph, I still like that vanilla texture, esp. on the lips. Makes the lips look more realistic. She is still a looker, and a realistic looking Dalish. As much as I love the longer hairstyles, I can't always wrap my brain around them for actual gameplay. I mean if I am playing and putting a helmet on, isn't that helmet going to rip half of my hair out when I take it off. Unless I am a mage and have some kind of "Magical Hair Sheild" lol. But for making morphs they sure are nice. That last couple of statements makes me seem like old nasty woman I think....

looking at all those gorgeous creations I really want to get the PC
version and download mods >.< something that really bothers me is
the "I'm a total b*tch" expression all the vanilla game characters have

I especially saw an amazing sten mod in some screenshots around here... (I forgot to quote /sobsob) man I begin to like sten more and more

oh and incase anyone's interested, some of my chars I think came out pretty decently (for a non-modded game, that is xD):

Faith: my fem Cousland warrior and main (for now):

She uhm... looks "cuter" (for vanilla-game standards ) in the game itself xD... Basically your average "I'm loyal to everyone, a goody-woody and I love everyone" basically a female version of Alistair... Sort of... Without his awkwardness...

Jade: My first attempt EVARRRR at making a DA:O char (basically, I didn't even know what DA:O was about, at that time lololo):

I've redone her once (even giving her a diff name) but I deleted her original char on my 360, so I'm completely gonna re-do her and after that, she'll be my main... Anyways, also your average goody-woody (I just can't be a b*tch in DA:O, especailly not against Alistair Q_Q) but mainly a troll. In my mind she's MUCH more of a troll than she possibly can be in the game
