Regarding the Nightstalker, there is a texture, which I use for my drow designs that'll make the skin look very dark almost black, depending on the skin color you choose. I'll see if I can fins the link to where I downloaded it.

Klydia, damn I always want to type Claudia (don't ask why but there is a reason why I keep thinking of Claudia when I see Klydia), looks great. I really like this character because she looks so realistic, like somone I know (a Stella, not a Claudia). Especially the image of the alt-Klydia reminds me of that RL person. She's a very unique and amazing character/design. If I were you I wouldn't change a thing on her. She looks perfect to me.

@mulch00 lol... Now you're just showing off. ;-) You're leaving me wondering what new port you'll be able to pull off next. Martian antennae? Fred is cute though with his jockstrap hat, but he gets a bit clumsy eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Not so much jelly next time! All over his cheeks tsk tsk.

You're right about changing Klydia- can't bring myself to alter anything. Actually the alt-Klydia is identical except that she has her eyes lowered somewhat, but I like the longer face on the original, and the alt's darkened tattoo ends up looking like a tattoo with a face rather than a face with a tattoo. That was my bind when I first made her and why I went with the original as she is, but most of the time that original dirty gray color looks awful. I try to write it off as that she got the tattoo many yrs ago and now it's faded, but... still looks bad in most lighting. Oh, well. I do like her a lot. Here's a great one I pulled off at the Proving:



I'd really like to see that drow skin texture you mention. Speaking of the Nightcrawler, I'm not sure I understood you right. Were you saying you've never heard of Swamp Dwarves? I mean, sure, they're rare, but I thought everyone knew about them. One anthropologist who was allowed to live with them for a while says they speak in hushed tones even in the safety of their sporadic camps, whispering, "Flow with the reeds" and "May eve be thy cloak and the muck be thy guide" and "Cattails are so cool," stuff like that. They've got wider feet for traversing muddy terrain and impeccable olfactory capacity, smelling swamp rats and intruders well before they see them. They only come out at night and avoid civilized areas, so one seldom encounters one otherwise, but there are pictures. These ones are from Vigil's- I mean, from the Nahashin Marshes in Orlais... Yeah, that's it...

I am working on a mod that allows up to 5 dwarf companions to be added with the ability to select whether the female dwarf is added or the male. DevLog created the initial version of a few of them and then I modified his morphs to create the others. Hence, a lot of them look strangely similar except for hair/eye color, makeup and tattoos.

Lady Danicka & Lord Danick You WILL address them by their titles because they are better than your GW. Just ask them.

I really like the lighter tattoo more than the darker one. It is like you say, the darker one is just too much or too dark.

Oh my God, Swamp dwarfs *squee*. I love the description!

The biologist in me has to ask: Do the swamp dwarfs do strange things to cats if they encounter them in the swamps, because cattails were mentioned? Do they eat cats in addition to swamp rats or is it just a fetish?
Did the anthropologist report anything about night vision or do they solely rely on their olfactory sense?

@ Bhryaen - Klydia is superb! She is one of the most interesting and well made female dwarves I think I've ever seen. Seriously she is wonderful. So much character in that face!! I really love your work and I think you are becoming my favorite designer.

Cattails, not cats' tails! They're plants that grow at the edge of water- sausage-like in color and shape with a thin reed stick through them. They're soft and if you mush them (like I used to do as a kid) they fall apart into airborne seeds. They're in the game actually, as here behind Klydia and company:



But, yes, Swamp Dwarves eat cats and rats and bats and unsaturated fats and their eyesight is like an owl's and they smell like chicken.

I can't get that drow skin to work though. :-( It just comes out as a distorted skin texture that makes Aedlyn shadowy and transparent. What's worse is that that nice blackish skin texture I used for the Swamp Dwarf that seemed so promising as a combination for a Nightcrawler Aedlyn is just awful on an f!elf. *grumble* It looks interesting in firelight...



But in daylight... ughhers... while with a light skin color it's way better. These are pretty much the exact same face, but you can see the crummy darkening on the left one with the odd textures created to effect the darkened color. It's like a charcoal paint. If she goes into the rain, you'll see streaks where it runs off her...



I'm stubborn though, so I'm going to get the dark to work... somehow... So there...

Speaking of color changing things, it's interesting how that same intense, even commanding, expression on Mairyn takes full effect when she's blond but seems a lot more giving when she's a brunette and... well, wearing... you know... The lighting on Nicolaj in the 2nd picture doesn't match the lighting in the background, so he looks like a male model turned actor sitting in front of camera lighting during an interview.

Interviewer: "Thank you for agreeing to an interview with Celeb News here on the official set of 'DAO, the Movie.'"
Nicolaj: "Uh, yeah, no prob."
Interviewer: "So, given that you're playing the role of Alistair, what about his character do you find most intriguing?"
Nicolaj: "Well... he doesn't have too many lines, so that's cool. Plus the ladies dig me."
Interviewer: "Seem to fit the part well..."

More dwarf ladies! :-) No waayyy that noble hunter would wear that scrumptuousness at the Provings. Kaia (great name) looks great in that, suits her well.

I admit Klydia is probably my best so far, though I'm still partial to Kruklya. But I don't have the repertoire of creations to be your favorite designer. :-P You guys know your stuff enough to turn out great characters in bunches, and all of them seem impossible to have been made on the same engine that the generally underwhelming vanilla characters came from. Only Bann Teagan and maybe Loghain were designed interestingly enough for a comparison, and that lackluster performance comes from the very folks who made the game itself. hehehe

My characters take long periods of mulling over them and usually still don't turn out quite right. Yours are fantastic, and this latest lot, wow. You're doing something with the cheekbone structure that's amazing- makes those widened jaws work so well, very beautiful. Athenie looks so powerful as a character, would be fantastic to play. I can see her either confidently smiling at a jest from Zevran or bringing out dual swords and bringing down the entire cultist stronghold single-handedly. You and your way with elves. I like both versions of Drux a lot, Drux1 better for the reason mulch00 mentioned- the swirls of the tattoo and hair matched the background so well. But those eyes on Drux2 or that odd hair on Athras. They're so overdone as features, I'd probably never use them- or be able to- but you managed to make them not only totally integral to the character but also totally realistic-looking. I like Svetlana a lot too.

I've been preoccupied elsewise, but I do like your assortment a lot. Jasmine is very radiant as a happy-go-lucky sort, and f!Silfranar has a design that measures up to her more central role.

@Bhryaen - All credit for Jasmine just go to DevLog. I find her to be adorable though and the look fits the personality!

On drow skin, I think you probably need new skins to get the look that you're trying to achieve. Nightcrawler has a blue/black skin base where the dark skins in DAO all of a brown/black base. Blending might reduce the blotchy effect for the dark skin, but I doubt it. I am without a clue on creating new skins so someone else would have to do it.

Your nobel hinter is impressive. Her facial expression is amazing, that gives her a friendly, trustworthy and slightly innocent look, but underneath that is, in my opinion, a slyness and a ruthlessness.
Kaia is great. She somehow looks sad, but also proud and like  and a fighting spirit.

Hmmm, that diet is the reason they are so long-living. If they taste like chicken, I see it coming that the Ferelden peasants will hunt them down.

You are using the ingame CC? Damn, I forgot that there isn't a possibility to blend different skin textures. Maybe replacing the normal map with another could work. I'll go and try some alternatives and pm you, as soon as I find one.
The picture of Aedlyn by firelight is impressive. I know it wasn't what you were going for but nevertheless tourned out to be an amazing picture.

Ok, the skin should look really different with the drow texture. That is not how ist should look like. Maybe it is the lack of blending option in the ingame CC.

Neveri posted an impressive drwo design over at DANexus, She got the blending far better that me and managed to get a dark brown skin colour not the articifal blacklpurple that I used. Maybe she could help to get it right.

Interviewer: "Were there ever and agruments on the set or did it really this a big, happy family thing?"
Nikolaj: "Oh, yeah, there were arguments. Mairyn is really so bossy and always grumpy. And Zevran, you know the unkown dude with the pointy ears who wished he was a model, like me, he just keep talking all the time. The exact opposite to Mairyn. And the darkspawn actors, really, all they are all just extras. But they were always like 'Without us you wouldn't be important.' Yeah, we were like a big family and it was fun. You know, with the hot witch and the cute red-head, if you know what I mean. Well, what can I say the ladie totally dig me"
Interviewer:"Okay, that was very enlightening. We don't get such...insights very often..."

@mulch00 - I already have boodri's tutorials bookmarked ;-) I've watched them, but haven't had time to walk through them step by step yet. For hairstyles, I'm planning to try to figure out some new dwarf hairstyles and textures. Nothing really elaborate, but more choices than they currently have.

For beards, although I would love to do the big, beautiful dwarf fantasy beards, I know that I'd end up with major clipping issues. I'm probably going to have to stick with beards that are similar in length to what is there now. But I am hoping to improve textures and change the weighting a bit. I recently noticed that when Gorim turns his head, the ends of his beard don't turn with him.

If I never make it work..... I'm doing this as a break from scripting and processing voiceovers so it isn't the end of the world if I never get it to work as well as I would like.

Oh, no, I didn't make a better drow than you, dear. I'd argue that yours is more drow like tbh. You've managed to make a hairstyle I can't get to look nice look perfect. And that tattoo is the cherry on top, she's perfect.
Also, is she wearing.. Fenris's armour?
Shachath is probably one of my favourites from you, she's such a nice, original design with tons of personality. I love the outfit you put in her. And I can see why you can't decide which one you like the best, neither can I. You're a true artist, you really are.

@Bhryaen: Klydia is such an awesome looking dwarf, I love her bold features. And there really should be swamp dwarves in game, they should have had their own swamp zone.
Yes waaay would my noble hunter wear that to the proving grounds, dwarven fashion be damned. She's already a castless, might as well stir up some trouble without actually killing anyone. She's more than capable of taking care of herself, should trouble arise. The outfit might not have  alot of cover on top, but it does have rather layed trousers. You can hide several sharp, deadly things there. :innocent:

@mochen: I'll never be able to understand how you create such terrifying morphs, and yet you also make the most goregous ladies. I especially love Svetlana and Athenie.

@Kommunicating: Male elves are so tricky, but you've managed to make a rather nice looking guy. Not only that, but without the toolset as well. And on an xbox. That's impressive.

@LadyAly: It's so nice to see some of us oldies still posting here, after all this time. I recently went through the 150 first pages of this thread, it was almost nostalgic.
Teeja looks lovely, I like her pale eyebrows, they're a nice contrast to her dark hair.

Someone in the DA:I forum posted, I think it was the usual nude stuff thread, that there should be mods for people who wanted nude charcters or characters wearing their underwear on their head, so I made it.
Originally Shachath was supposed to be a grieving Iona. Then I thought of Arl Howe and what would happen to her later and came to the "angel of death concet". She was supposed  to wear  the black dress with wings and just look sad, sort of like a merciful angel of death. But something Risi said about Hannibal Lecter and torturing people gave me an additional idea. I thought about a violent death and the goddess Ker and that is how Shachath came to be. It's the first real "concept character" I've made. I don't know, but I don't think I'm much of an artist. Sometimes I just have a good idea.

I'm really glad you are still posting here, I was afraid we'd lost you to the Nexus. That would be horrible if you went away, the thread wouldn't the same without you, it would be empty and lonely.
Erra looks nobel, proud, sly, unyielding and strong, but also natural. I think she looks exactly like a drow should look like. So I'd argue she's the better drow design by far.
Yes, my drow is wearing Fenris armour. I rescaled it to fit it on elven ladies, but the shaping isn't very good. They don't have much of a rack
I can try to make it better and send it to you, if you want.

Adela is amazing. I've said it on Nexus and I'll repeat it here: I've never seen any character like her. She is absolutely amazing. Those dwarven features add to her personality. She isn't overdone pretty, but still very pretty and she looks nice, kind and lovable. Like someone you'd want around as a trusted friend.
Koemi is outstanding. It is so hard to create a character that looks even remotely asian and realistic. Seh is just great.
Dali is very pretty and exotic. I think she has something of an arabic look.
I really love your characters, always have and alwaqys will.

Looking through the It makes one feel nostalgic. I remember stumbeling on this thread and staring at all those pictures and wonderful characters. I went through all the pages and was amazed. I started playing with the toolset and making morphs, but I was to afraid to post anything.
There aren't many oldies left it seems and too few new ones. It's really sad, but well the CSO thread is not dead yet, isn't it?

@LadyAly: Elvina is lovely, she's got some very unique features. I agree with mulch00 that she'd make a great senior enchanter, she's got the air of a seasoned mage. The texture suits her very well, too.

@mulch00: I'm loving Sachath even more now, with that background story. I'm a sucker for background stories. You are definitely an artist, you really are. Most of the time I don't have any idea what I'm doing either tbh. Sometimes I'll see a colour combination I like and then make a morph, or just read something and feel like "oh, I know how that character should look like in the DA verse".

I'm glad I came back to this thread as well, it's all well and fine to post at the nexus, but there's something cosy about keeping this thread alive after all this time.
I would absolutely love to get my hands on the Fenris armour, rack or no rack. XD

Malakai (awesome name btw), has such nice eyes. They give him so much character, and his colour combination is excellent. I love the lips, almost white but with that hint of colour.
Mathea looks like she could be the sister of Malakai, there's something about their similar colouring and facial structrue that makes them look similar. I do love the red hair on her, though. Superb work!

@Neveri I can only second what mulch said before - I adore your way to create characters like Princess Bubblegum and Katya. Both are amazing and so contrary.

The same way mochen can create horrific awesome designs and the most beautiful ladies.

In general this thread is always a inspiration and I always come back to it - even if  I break away for months.
